Researchers have made a digital map shwing a tiny piece f a human brain in unknwn detail. The map
represents a cubic millimeter f brain — an area abut half the size f a grain f rice. But even that tiny part is
verflwing with a large amunt f infrmatin — cntaining abut 57,000 cells, 230 millimeters f bld
vessels and 150 millin synapses (突触), the cnnectins between neurns (神经元).
The researchers published their findings in a jurnal. They have made the data set freely available nline and
prvided tls fr analyzing it. “In ne respect, ur data set is tiny,” Jeff Lichtman, a c-authr f the study says.
“But it desn’t feel small, because when yu get in it, yu see it’s like a huge frest.”
Fr the new paper, the researchers turned t a piece f brain tissue frm a persn with epilepsy (癫痫). The
data has already brught sme unexpected findings fr the researchers. Fr instance, they fund sme rare sites
where neurns were cnnected by mre than 50 synapses. This is incredibly uncmmn — mre than 96 percent
f cnnectins between neurns have just ne synapse, and mre than 99 percent have three r fewer synapses.
“These strng cnnectins might shw what learning lks like in the brain,” Lichtman assumes. They
represent behavirs s well-practiced that they require almst n thught at all, such as mving yur ft frm the
acceleratr t the brake when stpping a car. Hwever, he thinks while the tissue sample didn’t have any evidence
f disease, they can’t be certain whether these surprises are in sme way related t the persn’s epilepsy r
treatments. Studying ther tissue samples culd give them a clearer idea.
Next, the researchers wuld like t map a muse’s brain. But in the meantime, the human statistics they
currently have will push ther researchers t learn mre abut the human brain, especially its unknwn areas.
28.What des the digital map created by the researchers shw?
A.Mainly the huge synapses.
B.The entire netwrk f neurns.
C.Varius aspect f the human brain.
D.Detailed infrmatin abut a small brain area.
29.Hw des paragraph 3 illustrate the rarity f the findings?
A.By listing data.
B.By citing papers.
C.By making an assumptin.
D.By describing a phenmenn.
30.What is Lichtman’s attitude t the findings?
A.Grateful.
B.Cautius.
C.Critical.
D.Indifferent.
31.What can we learn abut the effect f the research frm the last paragraph?

描述过去的情况,故用一般过去时的被动语态,主语 it 为第三人称单数,be 动词用 was。故填 was believed。
61.考查介词。句意:几乎所有的宫颈癌都是由人乳头瘤病毒引起的,人们相信针对人乳头瘤病毒的疫苗
可能有效。介词 against 表示“对抗”,这里指疫苗能抵抗 HPV。故填 against。

疫苗,故使用定冠词 The,位于句首,首字母大写。故填 The。
