The way peple hld t the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free life equals happiness actually reduces their chances f ever gaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal t happiness then pain must be equal t unhappiness. But in fact, the ppsite is true: mre ften than nt, things that lead t happiness invlve sme pain.
As a result, many peple avid the very attempts that are the surce f true happiness. They fear the pain unavidably brught by such things as marriage, raising children, prfessinal achievement, religius cmmitment (承担的义务), self-imprvement.
Ask a bachelr (单身汉) why he resists marriage even thugh he finds dating t be mre and mre satisfying. If he is hnest he will tell yu that he is afraid f making a cmmitment. It liberates time: nw we can devte mre hurs t activities that can really increase ur happiness. It liberates mney: buying that new car r thse fancy clthes that will d nthing t increase ur happiness nw seems pintless.
