    A
The ddness f life in space never quite ges away. Here are sme examples.
First cnsider smething as simple as sleep. Its psitin presents its wn challenges. The main questin is whether yu want yur arms inside r utside the sleeping bag. If yu leave yur arms ut, they flat free in zer gravity, ften giving a sleeping astrnaut the lk f a funny ballet (芭蕾) dancer.
“I’m an inside guy, ” Mike Hpkins says, wh returned frm a six-mnth tur n the Internatinal Space Statin. “I like t be wrapped up. ”
On the statin, the rdinary becmes strange. The exercise bike fr the American astrnauts has n handlebars. It als has n seat. With n gravity, it’s just as easy t pedal vilently. Yu can watch a mvie while yu pedal by flating a micrcmputer anywhere yu want. But statin residents have t be careful abut staying in ne place t lng. Withut gravity t help circulate air, the carbn dixide yu exhale (呼气) has a tendency t frm an invisible (隐形的)clud arund yur head. Yu can end up with what astrnauts call a carbn-dixide headache.
Lery Chia, 54, an American retired astrnaut after fur flights, describes what happens even befre yu flat ut f yur seat. “Yur inner ear thinks yu’re falling. Meanwhile yur eyes are telling yu yu’re standing straight. That can be annying—that’s why sme peple feel sick. ” Within a cuple f days—truly terrible days fr sme—astrnauts’ brains learn t ignre the panicky signals frm the inner ear, and space sickness disappears.
Space travel can be s delightful but at the same time invisibly dangerus. Fr instance, astrnauts lse bne mass. That’s why exercise is cnsidered s vital that Natinal Aernautics and Space Administratin (NASA) puts it right n the wrkday schedule. The fcus n fitness is as much abut science and the future as it is abut keeping any individual astrnaut healthy. NASA is wrried abut tw things: recvery time nce astrnauts return hme, and, mre imprtantly, hw t maintain strength and fitness fr the tw and a half years r mre that it wuld take t make a rund-trip t Mars.
    1. What is the majr challenge t astrnauts when they sleep in space?
    A. Deciding n a prper sleep psitin.
    B. Chsing a cmfrtable sleeping bag.
    C. Seeking a way t fall asleep quickly.
    D. Finding a right time t g t sleep.
    2. The astrnauts will suffer frm a carbn-dixide headache when they_________.
    A. circle arund n their bikes
    B. use micrcmputers withut a stp
    C. exercise in ne place fr a lng time
    D. watch a mvie while pedaling
    3. Sme astrnauts feel sick n the statin during the first few days because_________.
    A. their senses stp wrking
    B. they have t stand up straight
    C. they flat ut f their seats unexpectedly
    D. their brains receive cntradictry messages
    4. One f NASA’s majr cncerns abut astrnauts is_________.
    A. hw much exercise they d n the statin
    B. hw they can remain healthy fr lng in space
    C. whether they can recver after returning hme
    D. whether they are able t g back t the statin

    Preparing Cities fr Rbt Cars
The pssibility f self-driving rbt cars has ften seemed like a futurist’s dream, years away frm materializing in the real wrld. Well, the future is apparently nw. The Califrnia Department f Mtr Vehicles began giving permits in April fr cmpanies t test truly self-driving cars n public rads. The state als cleared the way fr cmpanies t sell r rent ut self-driving cars, and fr cmpanies t perate driverless taxi services. Califrnia, it shuld be nted, isn’t leading the way here. Cmpanies have been testing their vehicles in cities acrss the cuntry. It’s hard t predict when driverless cars will be everywhere n ur rads. But hwever lng it takes, the technlgy has the ptential t change ur transprtatin systems and ur cities, fr better r fr wrse, depending n hw the transfrmatin is regulated.
While much f the debate s far has been fcused n the safety f driverless cars (and rightfully s), plicymakers als shuld be talking abut hw self-driving vehicles can help reduce traffic jams, cut emissins (排放) and ffer mre cnvenient, affrdable mbility ptins. The arrival f driverless vehicles is a chance t make sure that thse vehicles are envirnmentally friendly and mre shared.
D we want t cpy—r even wrsen—the traffic f tday with driverless cars? Imagine a future where mst adults wn individual self-driving vehicles. They tlerate lng, slw jurneys t and frm wrk n packed highways because they can wrk, entertain themselves r sleep n the ride, which encurages urban spread. They take their driverless car t an appintment and set the empty vehicle t circle the building t avid paying fr parking. Instead f walking a few blcks t pick up a child r the dry cleaning, they send the self-driving minibus. The cnvenience even leads fewer peple t take public transprt—an unwelcme side effect researchers have already fund in ride-hailing (叫车) services.
A study frm the University f Califrnia at Davis suggested that replacing petrl-pwered private cars wrldwide with electric, self-driving and shared systems culd reduce carbn emissins frm transprtatin 80% and cut the cst f transprtatin infrastructure (基础设施) and peratins 40% by 2050. Fewer emissins and cheaper travel sund pretty appealing. The first cmmercially available driverless cars will almst certainly be fielded by ride-hailing services, cnsidering the cst f self-driving technlgy as well as liability and maintenance issues But driverless car wnership culd increase as the prices drp and mre peple becme cmfrtable with the technlgy.
Plicymakers shuld start thinking nw abut hw t make sure the appearance f driverless vehicles desn’t extend the wrst aspects f the car-cntrlled transprtatin system we have tday. The cming technlgical advancement presents a chance fr cities and states t develp transprtatin systems designed t mve mre peple, and mre affrdably. The car f the future is cming. We just have t plan fr it.
    5. Accrding t the authr, attentin shuld be paid t hw driverless cars can_______?

    A. Emplyed.
    B. Replaced.
    C. Shared.
    D. Reduced.

    B. Psitive.
    C. Disapprving.
    D. Sympathetic.

I lve my mbile phne—it’s my little cnnectin t the larger wrld that can g anywhere with me. I als lve my cmputer, as it hlds all f my writing and thughts. Despite this lve f technlgy, I knw there are times when I need t mve away frm these things and truly cmmunicate with thers.
I teach a curse called Histry Matters in cllege. My gals fr the class include a deep discussin f histrical themes and ideas. Because I want students t fully study the material and exchange their ideas with each ther in the classrm, I have a rule—n laptps, iPads, phnes, etc. When students were tld my rule in advance f my class, sme f them were nt happy.
Mst students think my reasns fr this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technlgy. There’s a bit f truth t that. Sme students assume that I am anti-technlgy. There’s n truth in that at all. I lve technlgy and try t keep up with it s I can relate t my students.
The real reasn why I ask students t leave technlgy at the dr is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep cnversatins and truly engage cmplex ideas. Interruptins (中断)by technlgy ften break cncentratin and allw fr t much dependence n utside infrmatin fr ideas. I want students t dig deep within themselves fr inspiratin and ideas. I want them t push each ther t think differently and t make cnnectins amng the curse, the material and the class discussin.
I’m nt saying that I wn’t ever change my mind abut technlgy use in my histry class, but until I hear a really gd reasn fr the change, I’m sticking t my plan. A few hurs f technlgy-free dialgue is just t sweet t give up.

    A. keep students frm ding independent thinking
    B. encurage students t have in-depth cnversatins
    C. help students t better understand cmplex tpics
    D. affect students’ cncentratin n curse evaluatin
    11. It can be inferred frm the last paragraph that the authr ________.
    A. is quite stubbrn
    B. will give up teaching histry
    C. will change his teaching plan sn
    D. values technlgy-free dialgues in his class
    D

Researchers frm Gergia Tech say that they have cme up with a lw-cst device (装置)that gets arund this prblem: a smart keybard. This smart keybard precisely measures the cadence (节奏)with which ne types and the pressure fingers apply t each key. The keybard culd ffer a strng layer f security by analyzing things like the frce f a user’s typing and the time between key presses. These patterns are unique t each persn. Thus, the keybard can determine peple’s identities, and by extensin, whether they shuld be given access t the cmputer it’s cnnected t—regardless f whether smene gets the passwrd right.
It als desn’t require a new type f technlgy that peple aren’t already familiar with. Everybdy uses a keybard and everybdy types differently.
In a study describing the technlgy, the researchers had 100 vlunteers type the wrd “tuch” fur times using the smart keybard. Data cllected frm the device culd be used t recgnize different participants based n hw they typed, with very lw errr rates. The researchers say that the keybard shuld be pretty straightfrward t cmmercialize and is mstly made f inexpensive, plastic-like parts. The team hpes t make it t market in the near future.

    13. What makes the inventin f the smart keybard pssible?
    A. Cmputers are much easier t perate.
    B. Fingerprint scanning techniques develp fast.
    C. Typing patterns vary frm persn t persn.
    D. Data security measures are guaranteed.
    14. What d the researchers expect f the smart keybard?
    A. It’ll be envirnment-friendly.
    B. It’ll reach cnsumers sn.
    C. It’ll be made f plastics.
    D. It’ll help speed up typing.

根据第二段第二句“Its psitin presents its wn challenges.
根据第三段中的“But statin residents have t be careful abut staying in ne place t lng. . . Yu can end up with what astrnauts call a carbn-dixide headache.
Meanwhile yur eyes are telling yu yu’re standing straight. That can be annying-that’s why sme peple feel sick”可知,在太空中,你的内耳认为你要倒下,而眼睛却告诉
根据最后一段中的“NASA is wrried abut tw things.
根据第二段第一句“While much f the debate s far has been fcused n the safety…plicymakers als shuld be talking abut hw self-driving vehicles can help reduce traffic jams, cut emissins and ffer mre cnvenient, affrdable mbility ptins.
根据最后一段第一句“Plicymakers shuld start thinking nw abut hw t make sure the appearance f driverless vehicles desn’t extend the wrst aspects f the car-cntrlled transprtatin system we have tday.
根据第四段中画线词所在句的前半部分内容the first cmmercially available driverless cars will almst certainly可知,结合下句中的 as the prices drp and mre peple becme cmfrtable with the technlgy可知,随着价格降低以及人们对这项技术开始应用自如,第一批上市的无人驾驶汽车会被用到“叫车服务”中。
根据最后一段最后两句“The car f the future is cming. We just have t plan fr it”可知,无人驾驶汽车的时代就要来到,我们要准备好迎接它的到来。
根据第二段中的“…I have a rule n laptps,iPads, phnes, etc. When students were tld my rule in advance f my class, sme f them were nt happy.
根据第四段中的“Interruptins by technlgy ften break cncentratin and allw fr t much dependence n utside infrmatin fr ideas.
通过最后一段中的“…I’m sticking t my plan A few hurs f technlgy-free dialgue is just t sweet t give up.
根据第二段第一句“Researchers frm Gergia Tech say that they have cme up with a lw-cst device that gets arund this prblem:a smart keybard. At present, these technlgies are still expensive, thugh”可推知,研究者研发这种智能键盘是为了降低网络安全保护技术的成本。注意题干、正确选项以及原文中一些词汇的多次呼应现象:develp与 cme up with是同义词,expensive与lw-cst是反义词,cut the cst与lw-cst相呼应。
根据第二段中“These patterns are unique t each persn. Thus, the keybard can determine peple’s identities.
根据题干“研究者对于智能键盘有什么期望”可直接定位到最后一段的最后一句话“The team hpes t make it t market in the near future.
Researchers frm Gergia Tech say that they have cme up with allw-cst device…”
    21. A break ut爆发;take ut拿出;set ut出发;put ut扑灭。
    22. D由下文的 yu culd nt call a dctr可知此处应选择与call a dctr相关的选项。
    23. A不管是 family life(家庭生活)还是 schl life(学校生活)都属于我们的 daily life(日常生活),而 natural life表示“自然生活”。
    25. C由 we can d this very easily可知此处指“当我们离他们近的时候”。
因此选择still(仍然)。
    30. a hear“听见”,强调结果;see“看见”,强调结果;listen t指“听的动作而不指“听”的结果;lk at指“看”的动作。
    32. A spend time ding sth.
可想到s…that或such…that结构,再由空后的形容词 enthusiastic可知应选择s。“s+adj. /adv.
    36. have/has seen 37. cnnected 38. which 39. us 40. the
    41. entertainment 42. disappear 43. in 44. Persnally 45. And
