    Grwing up, Deka Ismail said she let labels define what she culd. “I was a black girl, frm a refugee(难民)family,"said Deka. “It was as if was nly allwed t explre predetermined bx.”
    After a high schl chemistry class inspired her t think abut a career in science and gave her cnfidence in the field. Deka learned t live utside labels and began making big plans fr her future. Nw she is abut t begin her freshman year at the University f Califrnia, planning t becme a prfessr.
