I presented a grup prject t my classmates. The first questin asked was, “What wrds d yu assciate with rural educatin?” Sme f the respnses were psitive. Applicatins that d use these detectin measures are als much less effective at identifying deepfakes than what the app prvider has claimed.
“In recent years we have bserved rapid develpment f facial verificatin technlgies,” said TingWang, a principal investigatr n the prject. “Meanwhile, we have als seen significant advances in deepfake technlgies, making it fairly easy t make live-lking facial images and vides at little cst. We thus ask the interesting questin: Is it pssible fr attackers t misuse deepfakes t fl the facial verificatin systems?”
Wang’s research is the first systematic study n the security f facial liveness verificatin in real-wrld settings. Wang and his team develped a new deepfake-pwered attack framewrk, called LiveBugger. They evaluated six leading cmmercial facial liveness verificatin applicatins. The researchers fund that all fur f the mst cmmn verificatin methds culd be easily bypassed, which prved that the develpment f deepfake technlgies raises a great threat t the cmmnly used technlgy. Thus Wang suggested matching lip mvements with a user’s vice t analyze bth audi and vide instead f using a static image f a user’s face. “Facial liveness verificatin has been applied in many imprtant situatins, such as nline payments, nline banking and gvernment services,” said Wang.
