A new reprt frm the Wrld Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Zlgical Sciety f Lndn fund Earth’s bidiversity is decreasing thrugh years f data n thusands f wildlife ppulatins acrss the wrld.
Accrding t the data, animal ppulatins acrss the wrld decreased by an average f 69% between 1970 and 2018.
Experts say the rapid lss f bidiversity is a serius and wrrying sign f what’s t cme fr the natural wrld. “The message is clear and the lights are flashing red.” said WWF Internatinal Directr General Marc Lambertini.
Many scientists believe that the main cause f bidiversity lss island-use changes driven by human activities such as the develpment f basic facilities, energy prductin and defrestatin.
But the reprt suggests that climate change, which has had a wide impact n plant and animal species glbally, culd becme the leading cause f bidiversity lss if rising temperatures aren’t limited t 1.5℃.
Lambertini said bidiversity lss and climate change are already respnsible fr a series f prblems fr humans, including death and hmelessness frm extreme weather, a lack f fd and water and an increase in the spread f specific diseases.
But the terrible news cmes with signs f hpe: Experts say there are pssible slutins t the lss f bidiversity. Slutins range frm prtecting frests t establishing a crss-brder trade system in Africa, the reprt said.
