Recently, Nreen and her research team have fund ne mre reasn that yu shuld stick t this principle — frgiving smebdy wh has hurt yu makes it easier fr yu t frget the unhappy memry, accrding t their new study.
In the study, researchers asked vlunteers t read descriptins f 40 different situatins that cntained bad actins such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者) , vlunteers then had t decide whether they wuld be able t frgive. Tw weeks later, vlunteers tk part in a memry test. In the test, they were shwn a series f wrds related t the situatins they had read abut and then were asked t recall certain nes.

Researchers are trying t explre creative ways t reduce e-waste. Nw ne team has invented a water-activated battery (水激活电池) made f paper and ther sustainable materials.
Sme e-waste is relatively large: ld phnes and air cnditiners, fr instance. Other e-waste is mre unnticeable, such as batteries. It’s these small batteries that are big prblems. Nbdy really pays attentin t where they end up. Researchers at the Swiss Federal Labratries fr Materials Science and Technlgy are wrking t address this prblem. They invented a water-activated paper battery using envirnmentally friendly materials that culd eventually replace the mre harmful batteries cmmn in lw-pwer devices.
A traditinal battery is made f plastic, metal r ther harmful materials. The paper battery wrks the same as a traditinal battery. In the new battery, the psitively and negatively charged sides are inks printed nt the frnt and back f a piece f paper. That paper is filled with salt, which disslves (溶解) when the paper is wet. Every ne f us may have been hurt by thers — either by their wrds r actins. The best way t deal with the prblem is t “frgive and frget”.
“It is well established that learning t frgive thers can have psitive benefits fr ne’s physical and mental health,” Saima Nreen, a scientist at the University f St. Andrews, UK, tld the Huffingtn Pst.
Recently, Nreen and her research team have fund ne mre reasn that yu shuld stick t this principle — frgiving smebdy wh has hurt yu makes it easier fr yu t frget the unhappy memry, accrding t their new study.
In the study, researchers asked vlunteers t read descriptins f 40 different situatins that cntained bad actins such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者) , vlunteers then had t decide whether they wuld be able t frgive. Tw weeks later, vlunteers tk part in a memry test. In the test, they were shwn a series f wrds related t the situatins they had read abut and then were asked t recall certain nes.
The results shwed that peple were less likely t remember the details f the unpleasant experiences if they had fund frgiveness in their hearts. In cntrast, if they hadn’t frgiven the mistake, they culd always remember what had happened.
Hwever, frgiving smene wh has hurt yu is always easier said than dne. S Nreen hpes that ne day in the near future research will give rise t pwerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tls that will enable peple t “frgive and frget” mre effectively.

Researchers are trying t explre creative ways t reduce e-waste. Nw ne team has invented a water-activated battery (水激活电池) made f paper and ther sustainable materials.
Sme e-waste is relatively large: ld phnes and air cnditiners, fr instance. Other e-waste is mre unnticeable, such as batteries. It’s these small batteries that are big prblems. Nbdy really pays attentin t where they end up. Researchers at the Swiss Federal Labratries fr Materials Science and Technlgy are wrking t address this prblem. They invented a water-activated paper battery using envirnmentally friendly materials that culd eventually replace the mre harmful batteries cmmn in lw-pwer devices.
A traditinal battery is made f plastic, metal r ther harmful materials. The paper battery wrks the same as a traditinal battery. It has a psitively charged (带电的) side, a negatively charged side, and a cnductive material (传导材料) between the tw. In the new battery, the psitively and negatively charged sides are inks printed nt the frnt and back f a piece f paper. That paper is filled with salt, which disslves (溶解) when the paper is wet. When the paper is dry, the battery is ff. Once the paper is wet, the battery activates within 20 secnds. The new battery’s perating perfrmance wrsens as the paper dries. When the scientists rewet the paper during testing, the battery begins t wrk again and lasts an hur befre beginning t dry ut again.
Althugh the researchers shwed that their battery culd pwer an alarm clck, it is unlikely t replace standard batteries nw. It is hard t predict a time line fr prducing such batteries in a large number, but that future may nt be s far ff.
“This really starts with the develpment f sustainable materials,” Nyström, the lead authr, explains, “Frm there, I think we are able t create smething that is quite useful.”
