Audience Analysis:
The target audience is high schl students wh are at an intermediate level f English prficiency. They have a basic understanding f English grammar and vcabulary but may struggle with expressing cmplex thughts and pinins in English. The students shuld als have sme prir knwledge f natural disasters and their impact n peple's lives.
Teaching Prcess:
1. Warm-up (5 minutes)
Begin the lessn by asking students if they have ever experienced a natural disaster r if they knw smene wh has. Write their respnses n the bard r share them with the class.
Intrduce the tpic f the lessn by saying smething like, "Tday, we will be talking abut reprting natural disasters in English. This is an imprtant skill fr anyne wh wants t cmmunicate effectively with peple frm different cuntries and cultures."
2. Presentatin (15 minutes)
Intrduce sme key vcabulary related t natural disasters (e.g. earthquake, hurricane, fld, etc.). Use flashcards r a PwerPint presentatin t help students learn the wrds and their prnunciatins.
Explain the grammar structure fr reprting in the past tense (e.g. "Last year, a devastating earthquake hit ur city."). Give examples f sentences using this structure and ask students t repeat them after yu.
Encurage students t practice reprting n natural disasters using the new vcabulary and grammar structures they have learned. Yu can prvide sme sample questins r scenaris fr them t discuss in pairs r small grups.
3. Practice (20 minutes)
Distribute audi recrdings r vides f native English speakers reprting n natural disasters (e.g. news reprts, interviews, etc.). Ask students t listen carefully and take ntes n the vcabulary, grammar structures, and expressins used by the speakers.
After listening, divide students int pairs r small grups and ask them t discuss the fllwing questins: What did they hear? Hw were the speakers using language t cnvey infrmatin? What new vcabulary r grammar structures did they learn? Encurage students t prvide cnstructive feedback t their peers and practice using these skills themselves.
As a class, review the key pints discussed during the listening exercise and reinfrce the imprtance f effective cmmunicatin in reprting n natural disasters.
4. Prductin (10 minutes)
Divide students int pairs r small grups again and give each grup a different scenari related t a natural disaster (e.g. a family whse hme was destryed by a hurricane, a scientist studying earthquake patterns, etc.). Ask students t reprt n this scenari using the new vcabulary and grammar structures they have learned.
Encurage students t incrprate as much detail as pssible when reprting n the scenari, and t use apprpriate tne and bdy language when speaking in frnt f their peers.
After all grups have presented their reprts, lead a class discussin n what they heard and hw they culd imprve their wn reprting skills in the future.
5. Cnclusin (5 minutes)
Thank students fr their participatin in tday's lessn and remind them f the imprtance f effective cmmunicatin when reprting n natural disasters in English. Encurage them t cntinue practicing their listening and speaking skills utside f class.
Assign hmewrk: Have students write a shrt paragraph (arund 300 wrds) abut a natural disaster they have persnally experienced r heard abut frm smene else. They shuld use the new vcabulary and grammar structures they have learned in this lessn t write their reprt.
