The idea is t replace them with heat pumps. It’s ffering hmewners grants (拨款) f up t £5,000 t get them installed Anther initiative in the UK is a big push twards electric vehicles. There are t be financial incentives (激励) fr car manufacturers, and mre charging pints are t be installed in streets. And there’s t be a ban n the sale f new petrl and diesel (柴油) cars by 2030.
But nt all emissins can be reduced t zer, s thse remaining will have t be cmpensated fr, r ffset (抵消). One way t d this is t plant thusands f trees, which are gd at absrbing carbn dixide. The UK gvernment has pledged (保证) t plant 30,000 hectares f trees a year by 2025. There are ther ideas t, but what's certain is this will cst mney. The CBI's Tm Thackray tld the BBC that ''thse csts have t be weighed up against the cst f inactin (不作为).”
Whether the UK, r anyne else, reaches net zer remains t be seen. And there’s sme dubt abut hw this can be accurately measured anyway. But it's generally recgnized that a glbal effrt is needed t tackle climate change. Therefre, net zer targets nly make sense if every ther cuntry is mving in the same directin.

The lwer bdies f the three patients were left paralyzed after they suffered spinal (脊柱的) crd injuries. But a device implanted in the spinal crd was able t send electrical signals t the muscles t permit them t stand, walk and exercise.
Scientists have discvered that neurns—which receive and send signals fr muscle mvements—ften still wrk in injured patients with serius spinal crd injuries. Hwever, past research int spinal crd injuries has centered n the stimulatin f neurns. Nw in the latest experiment led by Gregire Curtine and Jcelyne Blch f the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy in Lausanne, three paralyzed men were implanted a new electrical device designed t cpy an actin f the brain, in which it sends signals t the spinal crd that result in muscle mvement. When the spinal crd receives the brain signals, it stimulates a cllectin f nerve cells that can activate different muscles.
The researchers reprted that all three patients wh gt the spinal crd implants were able t take their first steps within an hur after receiving them. Over the next six mnths, the patients regained the ability t take part in mre advanced walking activities, the study fund. They were als able t ride bicycles and swim in cmmunity settings.
Unlike ther attempts t help paralyzed patients walk by stimulating nerves thrugh the back f the spine, Curtine said that his team redesigned the devices s signals wuld enter the spine frm the sides. This methd permits mre direct targeting and activatin f spinal crd areas, he said.
The team then develped artificial intelligence (AI) systems linked t the device. The AI cntrls electrdes n the device t send signals t stimulate individual nerves that cntrl muscles needed fr walking and ther activities. Hwever, because the patients’ muscles were weak frm nt being used, they needed help with supprting their weight, the researchers said. It als tk sme time fr them t learn t wrk with the technlgy. Still, Blch said, “The mre they train, the mre they start lifting their muscles, the mre fluid it becmes.”
24.What can be inferred frm paragraph 2?
A.Curtine and Blch have fund that neurns in paralyzed patients still wrk.
B.The new electrical device can imitate the brain t send signals t the spinal crd.
C.Three paralyzed men recvered with the help f a new electrical device.
D.Stimulating the neurns is the fcus f the latest research int spinal .crd injuries.
25.Hw des the new device stimulate the spinal crd areas mre directly?
A.By stimulating nerves thrugh the back f the spine.
    B.By using the AI system.
C.By making signals enter the spine frm the sides.
D.By sending the signals t the brain.
26.Which can best describe Blch’s idea in the last paragraph?
    A.Every garden has its weeds.
B.Put the cart (运货马车) befre the hrse.
    C.It's hard t please all.

Sara Savick remembers ne special Easter when she was nine years ld. Her parents gave her a baby duckling in a yellw basket.
“Mm said later that she bught the little duck because she felt srry fr it,” recalled Sara. The peple at the pet stre clred the feathers pink fr Easter. Sara named the duck Pinky.
Sara’s mther really didn’t think the baby duck wuld survive very lng. But t her surprise, Pinky grew and gt strnger and strnger. Sn, the little duckling was a healthy, hungry duck with white feathers.
“We fed Pinky atmeal, cked and uncked, and small pieces f vegetables,” said Sara. Pinky lived inside the huse with Sara and her family. She specially fancied taking baths with Sara. Everyne treated Pinky as a family member.
But just when everything appeared t be perfect, the night f the “talk” came. Sara’s Mm and Dad sat her dwn, explaining that the best thing fr Pinky was t live a nrmal duck life, with ther ducks. It was nt natural fr ducks t live indrs with a family, her father tld her. He added Pinky needed t swim in pnds and d all the same things that ducks in the wild d.
Sara started t cry, knwing what was ging t happen. Sara’s parents decided t take Pinky t a park, which was tw miles away. There was a pnd with a lt f ther ducks. Pinky wuld have the chance t live a natural life and Sara culd still visit her.

    Paragraph 1

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2
The next mrning, when lking ut f the kitchen windw, Sara culdn’t believe her eyes!
    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Everyne was sad when they left Pinky at the pnd, even Sara’s father. But he tried t cnvince Sara that Pinky was fine. Walking twards the car, Sara lked ver her shulder and saw Pinky standing alne. The ther ducks were swimming arund in circles, lking at Pinky. T Sara, it seemed that they were trying t identify the strange animal. They didn’t recgnize Pinky as a duck. Wrried abut Pinky, Sara dreamed f Pinky being bullied by ther ducks the whle night.
The next mrning, when lking ut f the kitchen windw, Sara culdn’t believe her eyes! There was Pinky, happily walking arund n the grass. Thrilled at what she saw, she kept asking herself,” Hw did she make it?” After all, it was tw miles away and he managed t walk back thrugh the city street. Incredible! But her parents drve Pinky back t the pnd again regardless f her request. The fllwing mrning, there was Pinky again n the grass! Seeing Pinky again, her father, waving his arms abut wildly, mved his lips withut saying anything. Meanwhile, Sarah, verjyed, hugged Pinky tightly, tears streaming dwn her cheeks.
如:lked ver, recgnize … as,regardless f等高级词汇;Everyne was sad when they left Pinky at the pnd中when引导的时间状语从句;Thrilled at what she saw, she kept asking herself,中what引导的宾语从句等高级句式。
