Many studies have shwn the learning-by-teaching effect.Students wh spend time teaching what they’ve learned shw better understanding and ability t remember knwledge than students wh simply spend the same time re-studying.But why des teaching help?
Researchers did a study t test their idea that teaching imprves the teacher’s learning because it frces the teacher t find back what they’ve learned. They asked 124 students t spend ten minutes studying a text with numbers n a tpic which is cmpletely new t them. They tld the students they culd take ntes while studying, but wuld teach the material afterwards withut ntes. After studying the text, the students were divided int fur grups. In ne grup the students spent five minutes giving a lessn n the study material withut ntes. The ther grups either spent the same time cmpleting arithmetic(算术) prblems, teaching with a script(讲稿) r writing dwn all they culd remember frm the text—a frm f recalling practice.A week later, all the students tk a surprise test f their knwledge and understanding f the text.
