Despite having studied AI, Edward, like the rest f us, was s shcked by the pwer f ChatGPT that he culdn't shake thughts abut the challenges presented by the AI tl. Then he had an idea. What if he applied what he had learned ver the last cuple f years t help the public identify whether smething has been written by a machine?
On January 2, Edward released his app, GPTZer.
It basically uses ChatGPT against itself. T determine whether an essay is written by ChatGPT, GPTZer uses tw indicatrs: the familiarity f text and the variatins f sentences. If the text is very familiar t GPTZer- - because ChatGPT has als been trained n such data-- then it's mre likely t be Al-generated.
Separately, GPTZer cmpares the variatins f sentences. Humans tend t write with greater varieties, fr example, with sme lnger r cmplex sentences alngside shrter nes.AI sentences are usually less varified.

On January 2, Edward released his app, GPTZer.
It basically uses ChatGPT against itself. T determine whether an essay is written by ChatGPT, GPTZer uses tw indicatrs: the familiarity f text and the variatins f sentences. If the text is very familiar t GPTZer- - because ChatGPT has als been trained n such data-- then it's mre likely t be Al-generated.
Separately, GPTZer cmpares the variatins f sentences. Humans tend t write with greater varieties, fr example, with sme lnger r cmplex sentences alngside shrter nes.AI sentences are usually less varified.
Edward isn't trying t stp ChatGPT in its tracks. He believes that's impssible, and ppses blanket bans(禁止) against the use f ChatGPT, like the ne recently annunced by New Yrk City publie schls. Students, he believes, will use the technlgy anyway.
