Ershi Wenchuang(儿时文创) is a shop in Shibati, Yuzhong, Chongqing.

The other day, I visited the shop with my parents. At the front was an old TV and a show from the 80s was playing on it. On the wall were pictures of movie stars and singers from the old days. There was also an old bike by the door. A white box with the word “popsicles(冰棍)” was put behind the seat.
After I walked in, another old TV caught my eyes. It was connected to a video game: Super Mario! At first, I thought the game was boring. But once I found out my parents played it when they were kids, I was really excited to try it out. The game was easy but so interesting. I was surprised at how such a simple game could be so fun.
The store sold products from the 70s, 80s and 90s last century. They were mostly snacks and little toys such as Dada Bubble Gum or wind-up frogs. In the end, I bought a little packet of preserved plums(话梅), the kind my mom used to eat. After walking out of the store, I gobbled up(狼吞虎咽) the plums. They tasted so sweet. The heavy rainstorm hit the valley suddenly. The rain poured down and did not stop for more than fifteen days. The rivers and the lakes were swollen (吞没). The animals were hurrying to the top of the mountains to protect themselves, worried and nervous.
However, the monkeys were not among them. They looked more relaxed. One monkey shouted: “We not only have good brains but also are good at jumping and climbing. It’s just a piece of cake for us to make our way to safety if we need to.”
For now, the monkeys were staying high in the trees, looking at the flooded (被水淹没的) land. One monkey noticed the fish in the water swimming quickly and jumping out of the water sometimes. Then he said to his friends, “Look there. Those poor animals are trying to get out of the water. They seems to be in danger.”
His friends looked too and they all agreed with him. “They are swollen by the floods and can’t breathe. Perhaps we should go and save them,” offered one monkey. Everyone agreed. So the monkeys moved quickly to catch the fish and brought them safely to land as soon as they reached the floods.
Though the fish were hard to catch, the monkeys spared no effort to help them. One monkey even said that it seemed a shame that these animals without legs and arms did not show thanks to the good monkeys.
Soon enough, all the fish were caught and laid out on the land. They lay there quietly. “Not a move from them at all,” noticed a monkey. And another old monkey said “________”.

①Five hundred years ago, Europeans arrived on a new continent. They brought new cultures and languages to this place which they called America. However, there were already people living here who had their own cultures and languages, so a terrible part of history began.
②As more Europeans arrived, there was a fight with the Native (本土的) Americans for the land and by the end of the nineteenth century, the native tribes (部落) were moved to reservations (居留地). A lot of their children were taken away to boarding schools and taught to speak English. By the end of the twentieth century, more than half of Native Americans wore living in cities. They gave up speaking their old tribal languages and only used English. As a result, many Native American languages disappeared, as well as their cultures.
③Some Native American languages are still used today, but they are usually spoken by the older members of the tribes who still live on the reservations. For most of the younger members of the tribe, the everyday language is English.
④The good news is that some of these “last speakers” are keeping their cultures and languages alive. They are also receiving help from the National Geographic Society’s Enduring Voices Project which plans to keep languages around the world from dying out. Experts meet with these “last speakers”, interview them, and record video, pictures and audio of them. The “last speakers” tell old stories which are written down in English so people can learn more about the culture.
⑤Recording the languages and cultures is only part of the project. The next stage is to pass on the languages to the young children. Some children pick them up from their parents or grandparents, but many tribes now offer courses. The Salish tribe is an excellent example. They live on Montana’s Flathead Reservation and their language is spoken by about 50 people over the age of 75. So the tribe has set up a school. It has 30 students aged 2 to 12 during the day and offers courses to adults in the evening. Schools and projects like these hopefully will save languages for the future.
36.The writer mainly develops the passage by ________.
A.raising questions B.giving facts and examples
C.explaining reasons D.listing numbers
37.“Some children pick them up from their parents or grandparents” in Paragraph 5 shows ________.
A.Native Americans are used to some new courses and languages
B.children of some tribes try hard to learn English with their parents
C.only part of the Native Americans are able to learn their own language
D.Native Americans have come to understand the importance of keeping their own languages
38.The structure(结构) of the passage is ________.
A. B.
C. D.
39.The best title of the passage may be “________”.
A.A Terrible History of American Languages
B.Take Action to Save Languages around the World

五、阅读回答问题
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
What an athlete(运动员)eats before, during and after exercise is important for comfort and performance during exercise. While eating soon before exercise doesn’t provide what is needed for the activity, it can prevent hunger during exercise. What is needed for muscles is kept in the days before exercise. This is one reason why the post-exercise meal is very important to recovery and being ready for the next exercise.
It’s not a good idea to exercise on a full stomach because food that remains in your stomach during an event may make your stomach uncomfortable. To make sure you have enough energy and reduce stomach discomfort, you should allow a meal to fully digest(消化) before the start of the event.
Besides that, something else also matters. For example, if you have an early morning race or exercise, it’s best to get up early enough to eat your pre-exercise meal. If not, you should try to eat or drink something easily digestible about 20—30 minutes before the event. You can have a liquid(液体) meal closer to your event rather than a solid(固体) meal because your stomach digests liquids faster.
Because glucose(葡萄糖) is the energy source for most exercise, a pre-exercise meal should include foods that are high in carbohydrates(碳水化合物) and easy to digest. This includes foods such as fruit, bread, energy bars and drinks.
Understanding the importance of food is necessary if you are competing in an all-day event, such as sports meetings or other activities. You should prepare meals and snacks that you have tried before. Do not try something new on the event day.
45.Does eating soon before exercise offer athletes things they need?
46.What may make your stomach uncomfortable?
47.To have a better performance, what does an athlete need to pay attention to?

Can Parents Be Our Friends?
This term our school did a survey about whether parents can be our friends. Students in our school shared different ideas. Here is the result.
40 percent of students think it is impossible because their parents are busy, and they have no time to care about them. And sometimes they are very strict with them. 60 percent of students think they can be friends with their parents. Because their parents usually communicate with them and care about them. When they are in trouble, they usually ask their parents for help.
In my opinion, we should be friends with our parents. We should communicate with them when we meet something unhappy. Our parents can try their best to help us. We should chat more with our parents. We should help our parents do more housework when we are available. If we have any disagreements with our parents, we should communicate with them.
