课时质量评价(三十五)选择性必修第四册 UNIT 4 SHARING阅读题组强化练. 阅读理解A(2021·江苏扬州、宿迁、连云港4月模拟)Familyfriendly WalksPADLEY GORGENext to Grindleford Station, eight miles north of Bakewell, lies Padley Gorge. Trails are kept as natural as possible it's more a case of finding the gaps in the woods than following a path.LONGSHAW ESTATEThe 1.7mile walking route around this National Trust estate skirts the upper end of Padley Gorge. People love the stepping stones, but Longshaw is mostly all about the giant fallen trees, left in place for little hands and feet to delightfully climb over.HIGGER TORA pile of giant rocks dominates Higger Tor, the best of several lookouts along the Ringinglow Road between Hathersage and Sheffield. Walk through the nearby fields, then let the kids climb over hundreds of strangely smooth grey stones. The views out over the Hope Valley are great and impressive, and the rock pools in Burbage Brook are perfect for rowing in.STANAGE EDGEPopular with rock climbers, this stone cliff marks the boundary of the mysterious land of the Dark Peak cliff and the grasscovered flat land of White Peak. It's a six mile circular walk from Hathersage. Alternatively, park at the Hollin Bank Car Park and climb half a mile to the top, out of breath.CHATSWORTH ESTATEA threemile circle from Calton Lees Car Park takes in a ruined factory, the pretty village of Edensor and views of Chatsworth House. Appreciate the stretch along the River Derwentdeer often hang out there.【语篇解读】本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了适合家庭外出散步的几个场所。1. Whom is the text intended for?A. Friends.    B. Farmers.C. Families. D. Armed with trowels (铲子), spades and a van full of flowers and plants, guerrilla gardeners turn abandoned urban land into a blaze of colour. In city centre locations where there was mud, weeds and empty plastic bottles, residents often wake up to find that the wasted area has been transformed. In most British cities, local governments and police turn a blind eye to the exploits of the gardeners, whose activities are always carried out under cover of nightfall. And so far, there has been nothing but praise from the astonished and delighted local residents when they find their neighbourhood transformed in such a striking fashion. Not only do the guerrilla gardeners beautify neglected places, they also return regularly to water the plants and weed the flower beds. They also make sure that at least some of the plants they bring are evergreens, which means that the area doesn't look dismal (凄凉的) in the winter months. The first guerrilla gardener in London was Richard Reynolds, whose day job was at an advertising agency. Mr Reynolds, a graduate of Oxford University, began his efforts two years ago when he moved to a flat in a tower block in South London. From his balcony, he could see several empty concrete pots, placed by the local governments to contain plants but never used. He went out after midnight and filled the pots with plants, and then planted more flowers in the path leading to the entrance to the block. He then set up a website to explain his plan and called upon more gardeners to join him. Cash donations  flooded in and, more importantly, volunteers rushed to be part of the campaign. Within six months, there were five hundred people in London prepared to come out at very short notice to revitalise (恢复活力) neglected parts of the urban landscape. There are now unofficial but carefullyorganised groups in many cities in Britain and North America and there is also a website where wouldbe urban gardeners can find out the location of the next expedition.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。世界上许多城市正受益于一群自称游击园丁的人的夜间活动。文章对这种组织进行了介绍。4. They'll send an actual human being to your room.Don't worry. They won't come in and kiss you good morning.   1  Never mind that most travellers nowadays have smartphones with builtin alarm clocks.   2   Here are some examples. At the Wolcott Hotel, if a wakeup call is unanswered, they will send an employee to your door. At Las Ventanas al Paraiso, an employee shows up at your room to wake you up with tea, coffee and breakfast bread. At the Mandarin Oriental, a person rather than an automated system will call to wake you up.   3  Hotels have always taken the wakeup call seriously.   4   If you don't get your call within five minutes of the requested time, you won't have to pay for your room. Travellers, too, still want to have an option of a wakeup call. A study of 285 guests at Crown Plaza found that 53% considered a wakeup call very important.  5   In the late 1980shotels turned to automated systems. Then all you'd get was a ring and silence. In the evercompetitive race for loyal customershowevermany hotels are now getting creative with the wakeup call. Some hotels even have recordings of celebrity voices. And more hotels will go back to the old inperson system of wakeup calls.A. But they might bring you coffee.B. If you don't answer, you'll get a wakeup knock.C. Crown Plaza, for instance, has a wakeup call guarantee.D. But the wakeup call became less personal over the years.E. The hotel gets 15 to 30 requests for wakeup calls each day.F. The human wakeup call is a way to personalise a guest's stay.G. Some guests sleep through the call, while others turn their phone ringers off.15 AFBCD
