Mr. Harris used to work in Dover, but then he changed his work, and he and his wife moved to another town. They did not have many friends there, but they soon met a lot of interesting people, and after a few weeks, they often went to dinner or top a ties at other people's houses.

A man enters a store to buy milk. He walks out of the store with milk. That is all—milk. At the same time, a woman enters the same grocery store also to buy milk. She buys it. And that is the difference between the female and male brains. It can be simply explained in a grocery store. Generally speaking, men do one thing at a time. Women do many. Doing many things at a time is often called “multi-tasking”, a very popular word these days.

Now scientific research supports this theory about male and female brains. They found that male brains have more connections on one side of the brain, or hemisphere(脑半球) .In the female brain, they found more activities and connections between the right and left sides of the brain. The left side of the brain is known as the side of “reason”. The right hemisphere is known as the “creative” side.

Regina Verma is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. She says when women are asked to do something difficult, they use different parts of the brain. Men, she adds, generally use just one side of the brain. As a result men generally deal directly with a problem. Women, however, might include other parts of the brain, like the part connected with reason and the part connected with sensitivity(理智) when solving a problem.

Schools can play a role by encouraging children to walk to school. Brussoni offers additional suggestions: “They should promote a culture that walking to school is the norm (规范), help educate parents on why this is important, and consider closing the streets around the school to cars before and after school.”

Parents might do well to put themselves in their children's shoes. As adults, we know how good a morning walk feels to start off a day or to end one. Walking energizes us and cheers us up, and it can do the same for children. As we go through this pandemic that has shaken up all of our lives, it's a good time to practice new routines and establish new habits. Walking to school is a great place to start.
