Summer camp games offer physical exercise and help your kids develop sell-confidence, independence, and leadership skills.
Blindfold Obstacle (障碍物) Course
Divide the group into teams. Each team will have one blindfolded person while their teammate gives them instructions on how to get around an obstacle course. You can use other players to be the obstacles that blindfolded teens need to get around.
Balloon Up
Divide the teens into small groups. Each team gets a balloon and has to try and keep the balloon up in the air without using their hands. To make the game harder, players must hold hands in a circle, making moving around more difficult. The team with their balloon up in the air the longest wins.
Capture The Flag
Divide the area where you will be playing in half and split the group into two teams. Give each team a flag that they need to hide in their playing area, and remember that a small piece of the material must be visible for the other team to see. Each team must try to steal the other team’s flag and bring it back to their own side of the field to win the game.
Relay Races
Divide the teens into small groups. A fun twist on a water relay race is to have each player pour water from a cup backward over the head, and the person standing behind them must catch the water into their cup. At the end of the race, the team with the most water in the final cup wins.
21.What is forbidden in Balloon Up?
A.Touch the balloon with hands. B.Hold hands in n circle.

Earth’s natural resources include air, minerals, plants, soil, water, and wildlife. Conservation is the care and protection of these resources so that they can survive for future generations. It includes maintaining diversity of species, genes, and ecosystems, as well as functions of the environment, such as nutrient cycling.
Continued human population growth has led to unsustainable rates of consumption of our natural resources, resulting in a loss of Earth’s biodiversity. The main factors driving biodiversity loss include habitat destruction, climate change, invasive (入侵的) species and pollution.
Declining biodiversity is closely intertwined with species extinction. While extinction is a normal process of nature, the rate at which it is happening today is not. Scientists estimate that current extinction rates are about a thousand times higher now than would be expected based on the fossil record, and that we may be experiencing a mass extinction event, which is when 75 percent or more species are lost at a time.
The extinction of the passenger pigeon is a famous example of an extinction caused by human activity. It was once the most richest land bird in North America, with a population of approximately three to five billion when Europeans arrived. Despite its vast numbers, this pigeon became extinct in the wild by the 1900s because of overhunting. The last individual bird, named Martha, died in captivity in 1941 at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Conservation practices and policies—ranging from the removal of invasive species, to setting aside protected land for wildlife and plants, to establishing the U. S. Endangered Species Act (ESA)—have been put in place to deal with these extinction pressures. Currently, more than 26,500 species are estimated to be at risk of extinction, though the exact number is difficult to calculate.
24.How does the author illustrate “conservation” in the text?
A.By giving a definition. B.By offering an example.
C.By listing some facts. D.By making comparisons.
25.What does the underlined part “intertwined with” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Caused by. B.Connected to. C.Disturbed by. D.Similar to.
26.Why does the author take the passenger pigeon as an example?
A.To show that animals die out quickly.
B.To tell North America is perfect for animals.
C.To explain how species die out in a short time.
D.To state that man is to blame for extinction.
27.What’s the suitable title for the text?
A.Conservation, Necessary and Urgent. B.The Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon.
C.Effective Ways Done to the Environment. D.Protection, More Than the Care for Animals.

Imagine driving behind a huge truck shooting clouds of smoke into the air while your new fully electric vehicle cleans up its carbon emissions (排放). This dream may soon be a reality. A team of students in the Netherlands has created an electric car that not only doesn’t produce carbon dioxide when driving, but actually pulls it out of the air.
The two-seater sports car was designed and built in less than a year by a team of 32 students at Eindhoven University of Technology. Called “ZEM”, which stands for “zero emission mobility”, the car is equipped with special devices that remove carbon dioxide from the air as it drives. The team says if ZEM is driven about 32,000 kilometers, it can remove 2 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the air. That’s not a huge amount. The team calculates that 10 ZEM cars on the road for a year would remove as much carbon dioxide as a typical tree does during that time. However, they also point out that there are over a billion passenger cars in the world that could be using this technology. And if a billion cars were removing carbon dioxide instead of producing it, the result would be huge.
ZEM also has several other innovations that help to make it more capable of being sustained: the car’s frame and panels (面板) are 3D printed to reduce waste; it was built using recycled and recyclable materials; and it can be easily taken apart so that many of its parts can be reused. ZEM’s battery is also reusable, and has another handy feature: it can be charged with solar panels on the car’s roof—and can even be used to provide power to your house when the car isn’t on the road.
According to the statistics, transportation was responsible for over 20% of global carbon dioxide emissions in 2020—and of those emissions, cars were responsible for 41%. The Eindhoven team says its goal is to challenge the electric car industry: If 32 students can build a car like this in less than a year, then surely car manufacturers (生产商) are expected to adopt these innovations, too.
28.What is special about ZEM?
A.It can end the world’s CO2 release. B.It can cut the truck’s CO2 emissions.
C.It can reduce the level of CO2 in the air. D.It can absorb dirty air as well as CO2.
29.Why does the team run the calculation of ZEM in paragraph 2?
A.To demonstrate a superb vision of ZEM cars.
B.To explain how ZEM removes CO2 as trees do.
C.To illustrate the ongoing change in car making.
D.To show the influence of ZEM on the car market.
30.What do we know about all the components of ZEM?
A.They are of high quality. B.They are easy to process.
C.They are convenient to print. D.They are environmentally friendly.
31.What does the Eindhoven team hope to achieve in the future?
A.Sharp decline in fuel consumption. B.Mass production of ZEM cars.
C.Big success in beating other car makers. D.Dramatic changes in transportation.

Researchers from the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) discovered that ant species Formica fusca has a well-developed sense of smell. It was able to distinguish cancerous cells from healthy cells in humans. But more clinical tests must be carried out before the findings could be used in clinical settings like hospitals, the team said.
In the research, the scientists performed tests with 36 ants, smelling cells under a laboratory setting. First, the ants were exposed to the smell of a sample of cancerous human cells. This odor (气味) was then associated with a reward of sugar solution. Then, the researchers exposed the ants to two different odors. One was a new smell and the other was the smell of the cancerous cells. Once this test was successful, the researchers exposed the ants to different cancerous cells. As such, the scientists found that “ants discriminate between cancerous and healthy cells and between two cancerous lines.” After training, Formica fusca ants are able to detect volatile organic compounds of cancerous cells.
This study shows that ants are capable of learning very quickly, at lower cost, and are efficient, points out CNRS in a news release. This isn’t the first time that scientists have used animals to locate cancerous cells. Dogs’ noses are well suited for medical diagnosis and used for the detection of cancer-specific. However, training them to do so requires several months to a year.
On the other hand, insects can be easily raised in controlled conditions. They are inexpensive, and have a very well-developed smell system. Hundreds of individuals can be conditioned with very few trials. Ants therefore represent a fast, efficient, inexpensive and highly discriminant detection tool for detection of cancer cell, the team explained.
32.What do we know about the findings?
A.They are the first findings in animals. B.They can be used to treat cancer.
C.They are useful in varieties of fields. D.They need further experiments.
33.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The research tools and methods. B.The process of the research.
C.The application of the findings. D.Formica fusca’s magic power.
34.In which aspect are ants better than dogs according to the research?
A.They have a sharper sense of smell. B.They are more intelligent than dogs.
C.They take less time to be trained. D.They perform better in laboratory settings.
35.Where is this text most likely from?
A.A guidebook. B.A novel. C.A diary. D.A magazine.

Lucy was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me,” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Lucy cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Lucy as she wiped her tears.” Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Lucy sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”
On the way home, Lucy made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.
