The wrld f fashin and beauty is rarely related t disabilities, and even thugh Hllywd has made steps tward greater inclusin and clthing brand Aerie has featured wmen with disabilities in their advertisements, seeing disabilities in the mainstream is definitely unusual. The reasn why these things make headlines is that they’re s rare.
I learned frm a very yung age that because f my disability, I wuld never be cnnected with beauty r charm. I’d spent s lng feeling separated frm s many parts f sciety, but Ulta is sending a pwerful message with a single pht: It’s time t challenge cnventinal beauty standards because beauty cmes in all frms.
We all want t feel included. When it cmes t disabilities, it is s imprtant, especially fr children and teens with disabilities. I was well int my 30s when I rlled int a makeup stre fr the first time. I had n idea what I was ding and felt like entering a new wrld withut a map; I felt like I was ut f place, as if I was peeking (偷看;窥视) at a club withut being invited. Imagine hw my experience wuld have been different if I had seen a mdel in a wheelchair, smiling, as if t say, “Welcme. Yes, yu belng!”

The mment she sptted the advertisement was caught n camera by her mm Carlyn Andersn, and quickly spread last mnth n Facebk. “It’s just really saying that she feels included, and she feels like she identifies with that, and belngs here just like everybdy else. At the end f the term, students were asked which wman they liked best. Wh "wn"? Wmen wh attended the highest number f classes. Accrding t the researchers, "Mere expsure had weak effects n familiarity, but strng effects n attractin and similarity." Or in nn-researcher-speak: If I see yu frequently, I naturally like yu mre. That's the pwer f shwing up.
Knwing smene will shw up in the future als matters. Despite the fact that peple can’t remember much befre the age f 2 r 3, research suggests that infants (婴儿) can frm memries — just nt the kinds f memries yu tell abut yurself.
In fact, there are lts f different kinds f memries besides thse that are autbigraphical. There are semantic memries, r memries f facts, like the names fr different varieties f apples, r the capital f yur hme state. There are als prcedural memries, r memries fr hw t perfrm an actin, like pening yur frnt dr r driving a car.
But, if infants can frm memries in their first few mnths, why dn’t peple remember things frm that earliest stage f life? It still isn’t clear whether peple experience infantile lss f memry because we can’t frm autbigraphical memries, r whether we just have n way t retake them. N ne knws fr sure what’s ging n, but scientists have a few guesses.
One is that autbigraphical memries require yu t have sme sense f self. Yu need t be able t think abut yur behavir with respect t hw it relates t thers. Researchers have tested this ability in the past using a mirrr recgnitin task called the ruge (胭脂) test. It invlves marking a baby’s nse with a spt f red lipstick r blush — r “ruge” as they said in the 1970s when the task was created.
Then researchers place the infant in frnt f a mirrr. Infants yunger than 18 mnths just smile at the cute baby in the reflectin, nt shwing any evidence that they recgnize themselves r the red mark n their face.
Between 18 and 24 mnths, tddlers tuch their wn nse, even lking embarrassed, suggesting that they cnnect the red dt in the mirrr with their wn face — they have sme sense f self.
Anther pssible explanatin is that because infants dn’t have language until later in the secnd year f life, they can’t frm narratives abut their wn lives that they can later recall.
Finally, the hippcampus, which is the regin f the brain that’s largely respnsible fr memry, isn’t fully develped in the infancy perid.
32. What culd be the suitable title fr the passage?
A. Whether can infants frm memries?
B. Hw can peple recall their stage f 2 r 3?
C. Why culdn’t infants keep their early memries?
D. Which part f brain is respnsible fr memrizing?
33. Why was the ruge test carried ut?
A. T tell the difference between babies f certain ages.
B. T examine babies’ ability t recgnize themselves.
C. T experiment babies’ actin f using the ruge.
D. T identify the interactin between babies and their reflectins.
34. Which f the fllwing wuld scientists prbably disagree with?
A. Babies can frm autbigraphical memries at the age f 2 r 3.
B. The hippcampus hasn’t been well-develped in the infancy perid.
C. One f the causes f infantile lss f memry is lack f self recgnitin.
D. Babies befre 2 can’t recall the early memry by using language smthly.
35. Which sectin f a magazine is this passage prbably taken frm?
A. Health.B. Entertainment.
C. Lifestyle.D. Science.
