Chinese researchers have fund that the knife fish in the Yangtze River, nce endangered by verfishing, is recvering thanks t a fishing ban（禁令）.
Mnitring data frm different sectins f the Yangtze shws that knife fish resurces have been cntinuusly recvering since 2019 when measures were taken t prtect the fish, said Yang Jian, researcher with the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center f the Chinese Academy f Fishery Sciences.
The knife fish was knwn as “the first delicacy in the Yangtze,” and its ppulatin saw a sharp decrease due t verfishing and damage f its natural habitat（栖息地）. China banned the prductive fishing f this species in 2019 and a 10-year fishing ban tk effect in the Yangtze in 2021.
Since 2014, Yang Jian and his team have been mnitring a part f the Yangtze-cnnected Pyang Lake, an area fr the knife fish t lay eggs. Yang said that frm 2019 t 2021, the average number f knife fish caught by every bservatin unit in the area is 67 times that recrded during the perid frm 2014 t 2018.
The average length and weight f knife fish cllected in 2021 was 27.2 cm and 91.4 grams respectively, an average increase f 41 percent and 37.55 percent cmpared t thse cllected frm 2019 t 2020.
Yang Jian added that areas inhabited by knife fish have been increasing alng the Yangtze, and the species was recently fund in places such as Dngting Lake and the Ganjiang River where there had been n trace f the fish fr mre than ten years.

Chinese researchers have fund that the knife fish in the Yangtze River, nce endangered by verfishing, is recvering thanks t a fishing ban（禁令）.
