Appalachian Mountains have one of the richest and most diverse seasonal forests on earth. However, it also has a darker, decades-long history of coal-mining that had done almost great damage to local ecosystems, leaving hundreds of barren and bald hills.
In 2002, after years of telling coal companies to pack rubble (碎石) and plant grass on the remains of mountaintop explosion and opencast mining sites, Angel, an officer of Surface Mining Enforcement, noticed that the big trees—the life-giving forces of Appalachia—were not returning to the area.
When Angel went to the University of Kentucky to pursue a Ph. D., there he met Chris Barton, a young forestry professor who was studying how regrowing forests could solve frequent flooding problems. In 2004, Angel, Barton, and others created the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative-trees should be planted on mines. Regulators from all levels of government, scientists, environmentalists, and even coal miners agreed. The native had the power of spirit to turn over a new leaf and begin working to remove years of environmental degradation.
Within just a few years, almost all new mines in the Mountain were reforested upon completion rather than seeded with grass.
Now 70 years old, Angel has been the driving force behind a re-greening of coal country. With joint efforts, 187 million trees have been planted over 275,000 acres of former mines.
Angel and Barton’s journey hasn’t been easy, as tree planting is much-less profitable than mining. The slow work of reforesting the area continues by the sweat of people from the mountains who understand the beauty and importance of their forested homes.
    4. What caused damage to the forests in Appalachian Mountains?
    A. Lack of water. B. Frequent flood.
    C. Government policy. D. Years of coal-mining.
    5. What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Worsening. B. Conservation.
    C. Restoration. D. Pollution.
    6. Why is Angel and Barton's journey more challenging?
    A. Mining requires less sweat.
    B. The initiative receives less support.
    C. It is easier to pack rubble and plant grass.
    D. Tree-planting is less financially rewarding.
    7. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. Promise little, but do much.
    B. Many hands make light work.
    C. The tree is the guardian of water.
    D. Green the land to make people rich.
    C
Scientists have designed “transparent(透明的) wood” that could replace conventional glass in windows.
The innovation was developed using wood from the balsa tree, which is native to South and Central America, and claims to be five times more thermally efficient than glass.
The team treated balsa wood in an oxidizing bath that bleaches(漂白) it of nearly all visibility and then penetrated it with PVA — creating a product that is virtually transparent. Unlike traditional glass, the transparent wood can withstand much stronger impacts and will bend or splinter when damaged, instead of shattering(粉碎).
The transparent wood was created by teams at the University of Maryland and University of Colorado, which set out to find a greener alternative to conventional glass – a production that creates 25,000 tons in emissions each year. Along with contributing to greenhouse gases, glass contributes to a loss of energy.
“Residential building windows in particular account for 10–25% of the heat loss due to their poor thermal management capability” the team wrote in the study.
“Exploring energy efficient window materials is thus highly desirable to address heating costs, energy shortages, and the global impact of climate change associated with increased carbon emissions.”
The team notes that the bonding between PVA and cellulose(纤维素) in the wood, creates a tightly packed structure that allows for more thermal protection and makes it more durable and lighter than glass.
“Switching to transparent wood could prove to be cost efficient as well,” researchers shared in a statement. “It is made from a sustainable, renewable resource with low carbon emissions. It can be produced with existing industrial processing equipment, making its manufacturing an easy prospect.”
    8. What does the underlined word “thermally” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Associated with cost. B. Connected with heat.
    C. Associated with emissions. D. Connected with structure.
    9. What do we know about the “transparent wood”?
    A. It will shatter when damaged. B. It has replaced traditional glass.
    C. It is more durable than glass. D. It contributes to greenhouse gases.
    10. Why is the residential building windows mentioned in Paragraph 5?
    A. To show the disadvantages of conventional glass.
    B. To show the efficiency of thermal management.
    C. To explain the importance of building designing.
    D. To explain the global impact of climate change.
    11. What helps the transparent wood in thermal protection?
    A. Its tightly packed structure. B. Its sustainable, renewable resource.
    C. Its easy manufacturing prospect. D. Its industrial processing equipment.
    D
If all goes well, a balloon will soon rise from Space Center in Sweden. It will float high into the upper atmosphere, where nothing will happen, and then return to Earth. Nevertheless, a collection of environmental groups is trying to stop it.
The campaigners are against the flight because of what comes next. The balloon is a test flight for a research being run by the University of Harvard. The research aims to test an idea called SAI, in which fine dust is added into the upper atmosphere to boost the amount of sunlight reflected back into space. A future flight will release a small amount of calcium carbonate dust into the upper atmosphere, in order to help researchers learn more about solar geoengineering — an excellent but theoretical idea of deliberately adjusting the Earth’s systems to prevent the bad effects of climate change.
Opponents worry about two things. The first is the moral issue. If solar geoengineering works, it could reduce pressure to deal with climate change at its source by cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. Furthermore, in order to keep temperatures low, the reflective particles (颗粒) would have to be topped up continuously. A sudden stop could result in very rapid wanning. Raymond Pierrehumbert, a physicist at the University of Oxford, says solar geoengineering is too risky even to research outside of computer simulations (模拟).
Not all environmentalists are opposed. The world is likely to miss the target, set in the Paris agreement, of keeping warming to 1.5℃. “We’re not well-served by not understanding what these technologies represent,” says Steven Hamburg. Mr Hamburg favours small-scale geoengineering research. Other green organisations have also hesitantly approved of exploring the idea.
Exploration is likely to carry on in any case. Once a taboo, geoengineering is being taken increasingly seriously. A recent report on climate change suggested that SAI could help keep warming below 1.5℃ America has developed a research plan for solar geoengineering. Both China and India have launched research programmes of their own. Activists will continue to oppose experiments. But balloons will likely fly anyway.
    12. How does solar geoengineering work?
    A. Dust is put into the upper atmosphere to trap more heat.
    B. Measures are taken intentionally to tackle the climate change.
    C. Steps are taken deliberately to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
    D. Dust is emptied into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight into Earth.
    13. Why do environmentalists argue against SAI?
    A. It is to be implemented on a large scale.
    B. It has led to global warming against the original intention.
    C. It is probably to miss the target of keeping warming to 1.5℃.
    D. It may cause people to care little about greenhouse-gas emissions.
    14. What is the best title of the text?
    A. Should balloons, flight be banned?
    B. Should solar geoengineering exploration go ahead?
    C. How do balloons threaten the earth's climate?
    D. How has solar geoengineering changed Earth?
    15. What is the author’s attitude to solar geoengineering?
    A. Critical. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Frightened.

    第二节 读后续写 (满分25分)
    阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
One spring morning many years ago, I had been searching for gold along Coho Creek on southeastern Alaska’s Kuprean of Island, and as I emerged from a forest of spruce(云杉) and hemlock tree, I froze in my tracks. No more than 20 paces in the bog(沼泽) was a huge Alaskan timber wolf - caught in one of Trapper George’s traps.
Old George had died the previous week of a heart attack, so the wolf was lucky. Confused and frightened at my approach, the wolf backed away. Then I noticed something else: It was a female, and her teats were full of milk. Somewhere there was a den of hungry pups (小狼) waiting for their mother.
From her appearance, I guessed that she had been trapped only a few days. That meant her pups were probably still alive. But I suspected that if I tried to release the wolf, she would turn aggressive and try to tear me to pieces.
So I decided to search for her pups instead and began to look for tracks that might lead me to her den. Fortunately, there were still a few remaining of snow. After several moments, I spotted pups’ marks on a trail.
The tracks led a half mile through the forest, then up a slope covered with many rocks. I finally spotted the den at the base of an enormous spruce, There wasn’t a sound inside. Wolf pups are shy and cautious, and I didn’t have much hope of inviting them outside, But I had to try. So I began imitating the high-pitched(声音很尖锐的) sound of a mother wolf calling her young. No response. A few moments later, after I tried another call, four tiny pups appeared. They couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.
    注意:
    1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

    英语(七)答案
    第Ⅰ卷(选择题)
    第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
    【答案】1-3 BCA
    【解析】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一个叫做the West Exe Reach Programme的项目,它的活动内容,目的及好处。
    1. 细节理解题。根据第二段“Over the next academic year, the West Exe Reach Programme will offer students opportunities to participate in: • Team building residential activities(下一学年,West Exe Reach课程将为学生提供以下机会:•团队建设住宿活动)”可知,参加West Exe Reach Programme项目的学生可以参加团队建设住宿活动。故选B项。
    2. 推理判断题。根据倒数第三段“The ambition of this is to see students’ understanding of the available opportunities to widen and to encourage them to set the bar high and achieve more.(这样做的目的是让学生了解到拓宽学习机会的可能性,并鼓励他们把目标定得更高,取得更大的成就。)”可知,the West Exe Reach Programme为学生提供多种课外活动的目的是鼓励他们有更大的梦想,取得更多的成就。故选C项。
    3. 推理判断题。根据第一段中“This is an opportunity open to students who have achieved an above average Key Stage 2 score.(这是一个向关键阶段2的平均分以上的学生开放的机会。)”可知,完成关键阶段2的学生课程会对the West Exe Reach Programme项目感兴趣。故选A项。
    【答案】4-7 DADB
    【解析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了在Angel和Barton主导下,阿巴拉契亚地区一直致力于在因长时间的采煤而形成的禿山和荒山上种树,而且让新矿井在完工后重新造林。各方共同努力,减少环境衰退,共建美丽家园。
    4. 细节理解题。根据第一段中“However, it also has a darker, decades-long history of coal-mining that had done almost great damage to local ecosystems, leaving hundreds of barren and bald hills. (然而,它也有着更黑暗、长达数十年的采煤历史,几乎对当地生态系统造成了巨大破坏,留下了数百座荒山和秃山)”可知,多年的采煤对阿巴拉契亚山脉的森林造成了破坏,故选D。
    5. 词句猜测题。根据上题分析可知,多年采矿对当地生态系统造成了巨大破坏,留下了很多的禿山和荒山。再根据第三段中“In 2004, Angel, Barton, and others created the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative-trees should be planted on mines. Regulators from all levels of government, scientists, environmentalists, and even coal miners agreed. The native had the power of spirit to turn over a new leaf and begin working to remove years of environmental degradation. (2004年,Angel,Barton和其他人创立了阿巴拉契亚地区重新造林倡议,即应在矿井上种植树木。来自各级政府的监管者、科学家、环保人士,甚至煤矿工人都表示同意。当地人精神上有力量翻开新的一页,开始致力于消除多年的环境degradation)”可知,当地各方都愿意植树造林,共同努力恢复被破坏的生态,消除被破坏的生态带来的环境恶化,所以此处环境degradation指的是环境“恶化”,选项A“恶化”,故选A。
    6. 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Angel and Barton's journey hasn't been easy, as tree planting is much-less profitable than mining. (Angel和Barton的行程并不轻松,因为植树比采矿利润要少得多)”可知,植树在经济上回报较少,所以他们的工作行程很有挑战性,故选D。
    7. 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Regulators from all levels of government, scientists, environmentalists, and even coal miners agreed. (来自各级政府的监管者、科学家、环保人士,甚至煤矿工人都表示同意)”以及倒数第二段中“With joint efforts, 187 million trees have been planted over 275 ,000 acres of former mines. (经过共同努力,在27.5万英亩的旧矿山上种植了1.87亿棵树)”可知,大家共同合作,会有非常大的成就,也就是人多力量大,选项B“人多力量大”,符合文章内容,故选B。
    【答案】8-11 BCAA
    【解析】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一种可以取代传统玻璃的新型透明木材,并介绍了这种新型材料的特点及优势。
    8. 词句猜测题。根据第五段“Residential building windows in particular account for 10–25% of the heat loss due to their poor thermal management capability(特别是住宅建筑的窗户,由于其热管理能力差,造成了10-25%的热损失)”可猜测,导致10–25%的热量损失的原因肯定是与热量相关的管理能力差,由此可猜测句中的“thermal”的意义与热量有关,故第二段中的“thermally”作为副词形式也与“热量(heat)”相关。故选B项。
    9. 细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句“Unlike traditional glass, the transparent wood can withstand much stronger impacts and will bend or splinter when damaged, instead of shattering.(与传统玻璃不同的是,透明的木材可以承受更强的冲击,当损坏时,它会弯曲或分裂,而不是碎掉。)”可知,透明木材比传统玻璃更能承受住强烈的冲击,不易破碎。比传统玻璃更持久耐用。故选C项。
    10. 推理判断题。根据第五段“Residential building windows in particular account for 10–25% of the heat loss due to their poor thermal management capability(特别是住宅建筑的窗户,由于其热管理能力差,造成了10-25%的热损失)”,可知第五段提到住宅建筑的窗户是为了表明传统玻璃的缺点。故选A项。
    11. 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“the bonding between PVA and cellulose(纤维素) in the wood, creates a tightly packed structure that allows for more thermal protection(聚乙烯醇(PVA)和木材中的纤维素之间的结合,形成了一种紧凑的结构,可以提供更多的热保护)”可知,使透明木材能够保护热量的原因是它特殊的紧凑的内部结构。故选A项。
    【答案】12-15 BDBB
    【解析】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了可以帮助缓解全球变暖的一项工程solar geoengineering(太阳地球工程),并详细介绍了该工程的原理、初衷,实施的隐患、优势以及未来的发展。
    12. 细节理解题。根据第二段关键句“The research aims to test an idea called SAI, in which fine dust is added into the upper atmosphere to boost the amount of sunlight reflected back into space. (这项研究的目的是测试一种叫做SAI的想法,即向高层大气中加入细粉尘,以增加反射回太空的阳光量)”和第二段中的“solar geoengineering — an excellent but theoretical idea of deliberately adjusting the Earth’s systems to prevent the bad effects of climate change. (太阳地球工程——一个很好的但只是理论上的构想,有意调整地球的系统,以防止气候变化的不良影响)”可知,这个太阳地球工程是来采取措施应对气候变化。故选B项。
    13. 细节理解题。根据第三段关键句“If solar geoengineering works, it could reduce pressure to deal with climate change at its source by cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. (如果太阳能地球工程奏效,它可能减少从源头上减少温室气体排放,应对气候变化的压力)”可知,太阳地球工程可能会导致人们对温室气体排放的不再关心。根据上文可知,环保人士真正担心的是全球气候变暖根本原因是因为温室气体的排放,如果太阳地球工程通过向大气层释放细尘,减少太阳光线向地球的反射,缓解了全球变暖,那么温室气体排放这一根本原因就会被忽视。故选D项。
    14. 主旨大意题。文章第一段通过“If all goes well, a balloon will soon rise from Space Center in Sweden. (如果一切顺利,一个气球将很快从瑞典的航天中心升起)”通过“balloon(气球)”飞入太空引出“solar geoengineering(太阳地球工程)”,在第二段中介绍了这一工程的目的。第三段中介绍了反对者之所以反对的原因,简介说明了这一工程的隐患。第四段介绍这一工程有隐患,但部分人并不反对,有些更建议小范围实验。最后一段,无论如何针对这一工程的研究有可能仍将继续,并介绍了各国的进展。由此可知,本文从人们对太阳地球工程是什么,面临的争议,各方的态度,推测这一工程是否应当继续。Should solar geoengineering exploration go ahead?(太阳能地球工程勘探应该继续进行吗?)适合作本文最佳标题。故选B项。
    15. 推理判断题。根据第五段关键句“Exploration is likely to carry on in any case. (无论如何,勘探都有可能继续进行)”和“A recent report on climate change suggested that SAI could help keep warming below 1.5℃. (最近一份关于气候变化的报告指出,SAI有助于将气候变暖控制在1.5℃以下)”可知,作者对这一工程的态度是乐观积极的。故选B项。

    【答案】16-20 DBGCF
    【解析】本文是一篇说明文。有些人似乎有着不可动摇的积极心态,但我们大多数人需要学习如何通过自己的努力让自己振作起来。文章介绍以一些有科学依据的策略,改善你在困境中的心态。
    16. 下文“Thankfully, here are several science-backed strategies to improve your relationship with the person in the mirror.(幸运的是,这里有一些有科学依据的策略,可以改善你在困境中的心态)”与D项Staying positive has been tough in pandemic.(在瘟疫中保持积极的状态一直是艰难的)承接自然,该项中的tough in pandemic对应了下文的strategies。故选D。
    17. 此空是小标题,应该用短小精悍的祈使句,在A/B项中做出选择。根据下文提示“Realize that negative emotions aren't inherently (天性地)bad-they can be useful. The inner call of anxiety reminds you to focus on it. If you need to deal with an immediate problem- say, strictly control overspending-that call to focus is helpful.(要意识到负面情绪本身并不是坏的——它们可能是有用的。焦虑的内在呼唤会提醒你去关注它。如果你需要处理一个迫在眉睫的问题,比如严格控制超支,那么提醒自己集中精力是有帮助的)”可知,B项Embrace the upside of feeling down.(拥抱低落情绪的积极面。)切题。该项是对下文的概括总结,是本段主题。故选B。
    18. 根据下文提示“Spend time with loved ones, and remind them you offer a shoulder to cry on. It's nice to know that someone cares, and they in turn can count on you when they need help.(花时间和你爱的人在一起,提醒他们你提供了一个可以依靠的肩膀。知道有人关心你是一件很好的事情,而他们需要帮助的时候也可以依靠你)”可知,此处应陈述建立人际关系的重要性,G项Strong personal relationships are the best aids to believing you matter.(牢固的人际关系是让你相信自己很重要的最好帮助。)切题。该项中的Strong personal relationships与下文的Spend time with loved ones相吻合。故选G。
    19. 下文“Not only is it good for stress management and general mental health but it also provides a sense of competence and accomplishment.(它不仅有利于压力管理和一般的心理健康,而且还提供了一种能力和成就感)”与C项But exercise is the closest thing we have.(但锻炼是最接近我们的东西。)承接自然,下文中的it指代的就是该项中的exercise,是进一步解释。且选项内容复合本段小标题“Get moving(动起来)”故选C。
    20. 下文“If going to the gym is not an option or very enjoyable to you, then head outdoors for a run or a nice walk.(如果去健身房对你来说不是一个选择或非常愉快,那就去户外跑步或散步)”与F项The activity you choose matters less than enjoying it and sticking to it.(你选择的活动并不重要,重要的是享受它并坚持下去。)承接自然,下文内容是对该项的进一步解释说明。故选F。

    第二部分 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分30分)
    第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
    【答案】21-25 BBCCC 26-30 DAACB 31-35 DABAD
    【解析】这是一篇记叙文。作者讲述了自己作为接线员在疫情期间遇到的各种情况,以及她是如何应对的。
    21. 考查名词词义辨析。句意:我们接到的大多数电话都是来自极度孤独的人。A. minority少数;B. majority多数;C. variety多样化;D. quantity数量。前文说“Since the pandemic began we’ve been busier than ever.(自从疫情开始以来,我们比以往任何时候都忙碌)”,可知,此处要解释导致“我们”忙碌的主要电话内容是什么。故选B项。
    22. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:我们接到的大多数电话都是来自极度孤独的人。A. alone独自的,单独的;B. lonely孤独的,寂寞的;C. upset心烦的;D. depressed沮丧的。根据第6空后的“we’ve all had people on the phone crying due to loneliness.(我们都遇到过因为孤独而在电话中哭泣的人。)”可知,此处指人们由于疫情期间独自在家隔离而导致非常孤独才打电话倾诉。故选B项。
    23. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:对于被困在家里的人来说,这是一段艰难的时期,这种孤立会导致消极想法和过度思考,而且随着时间的推移,这种想法会越来越多。A. lost迷失的;B. deserted荒芜的,被遗弃的;C. stuck被困住的;D. forgot忘记。根据后文的“isolation(隔离)”可知,被隔离在家的人们相当于被困在了家里。故选C项。
    24. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:对于被困在家里的人来说,这是一段艰难的时期,这种孤立会导致消极想法和过度思考,而且随着时间的推移,这种想法会越来越多。A. positive积极的;B. active活跃的;C. negative消极的;D. passive被动的。根据第2空后的“It’s been such a hard time for people(这段时间对人们来说太难熬了)”可推断,在这段难熬的时间里人们会产生消极的思想。故选C项。
    25. 考查连词词义辨析。句意:对于被困在家里的人来说,这是一段艰难的时期,这种孤立会导致消极想法和过度思考,而且随着时间的推移,这种想法会越来越多。A. since自从;B. for为了,持续;C. as随着;D. after在……之后。根据句意,“消极的思想和过度思考”这种现象的增加(rise)是伴随着时间的继续(go on)而发生的,所以应选as作连词引导时间状语从句,故选C项。
    26. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:这些电话比以往任何时候都更加情绪化——我们都遇到过因为孤独而在电话中哭泣的人。A. terrible可怕的;B. awesome可怕的;C. crazy疯狂的;D. emotional情绪化的。根据后文“we’ve all had people on the phone crying due to loneliness.(我们都遇到过因为孤独而在电话中哭泣的人。)”可知,“孤独”属于一种情绪,是这种情绪让人们去打电话倾诉,所以此时作者接到的电话会比以前更加的情绪化。故选D项。
    27. 考查名词词义辨析。句意:这类电话在春季全国封锁期间达到高峰。A. peak顶点;B. service服务;C. control控制;D. command命令。根据空后的“during the nationwide lockdown in spring(在春季全国封锁期间)”可推断,在那段时间里,人们的情绪非常糟糕,由此导致的电话数量也必然是最多的,即达到了顶峰。故选A项。
    28. 考查动词词义辨析。句意:我们现在接到的大多数电话都是来自那些不知道自己在找什么的人,这没什么。A. receive收到;B. accept接受;C. send发送;D. transfer转化,转让。根据文章第一句“I’ve been answering calls on Mind’s Infoline for two years.(这两年我一直在Mind’s Infoline接听电话。)”可知,作者的工作是接听电话,所以此处应填receive。故选A项。
    29. 考查动词短语辨析。句意:我们现在接到的大多数电话都是来自那些不知道自己在找什么的人,这没什么。A. looking after照顾;B. looking at看;C. looking for寻找;D. looking up查找。根据后文“They want someone to talk to, and someone who can give them options(她们希望有人可以倾诉,有人可以给她们选择的机会)”可知那些人并不知道自己在“寻求”什么,所以才希望有人可以给他们提供选择的机会。故选C项。
    30. 考查连词词义辨析。句意:她们希望有人可以倾诉,有人可以给她们选择的机会和希望,从而使她们可以不总是有这种感觉。A.which哪个;B.that以至于,(表示目的)为了;C.where哪里;D.why……的原因。根据句意可知,设空处需填入一个表目的的连词来引导目的状语从句。故选B项。
    31. 考查名词词义辨析。句意:首先,我们想提供一个体贴的耳朵,但我们也想给人们实际的建议和选择。A. eye眼睛;B. head头脑;C. hand手;D. ear耳朵。根据前文可知,作者的工作是接线员,所以他们首先就是用耳朵来倾听人们的心声。故选D项。
    32. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:首先,我们想提供一个体贴的耳朵,但我们也想给人们实际的建议和选择。A. practical实用性的;B. unique独特的;C. particular特别的;D. extraordinary非凡的。根据第14空后的“mindfulness, yoga, relaxation, breathing exercises and so on(正念、瑜伽、放松、呼吸练习等等)”可知,作者给人们的建议都是非常实用的。故选A项。
    33. 考查动词词义辨析。句意:目前,我们一直非常专注于不同类型的自我护理,并讨论每个来电者的情况和需求,以及哪种方法可能适合他们。A. maintain维持;B. work有效果,起作用;C. act行动;D. continue继续。根据“At the moment we’ve been focusing a lot on different types of self-care and talking through each caller’s situation and needs and what kind of things”可知,作者和他的同事们都在专注于寻找对缓解人们焦虑情绪有效果的事情和方法。故选B项。
    34. 考查动词词义辨析。句意:治疗焦虑的技巧通常包括正念、瑜伽、放松、呼吸练习等等。A. include包括;B. contain包含,容纳;C. exclude排除;D. conclude推断。根据常识,“正念、瑜伽、放松、呼吸练习等等”都属于可以缓解焦虑的技巧。contain侧重“内有”,即里面包括哪些内容;include侧重宾语所述的人或物是整体的一部分。故选A项。
    35. 考查形容词词义辨析。句意:很多人都在寻找服务,特别是咨询,所以我们帮助他们找到他们所在地区的可找到的选择。A. convenient方便的;B. powerful强有力的;C. enough足够的;D. available可获得的,可找到的。根据空前“so we help them find what options”和空后的地点状语“in their local area(在他们当地)”可知,作者帮人们寻找在他们的居住地可以获得的服务和咨询。故选D项。

    第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)
    第二部分 英语知识运用
    第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
    【答案】36. desperately
    37. To join
    38. stuck
    39. where
    40. leading
    41. with
    42. it
    43. commitment
    44. painful
    45. was considered
    【解析】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了Shackleton所带领的船队在探险时遇到了危险,在Shackleton的奉献之下大家最终得救了。
    36. 考查副词。句意:年轻的珀西·布莱克博罗非常期待这一次冒险。修饰动词anticipated需要用副词。故填desperately。
    37. 考查非谓语动词。句意:为了加入探险队,在欧内斯特·沙克尔顿爵士拒绝了他的请求后,他秘密地把自己藏在了一个橱柜里。句子的谓语动词为hid,所以动词join要以非谓语动词形式出现。根据句意可知,此处表达“为了加入探险队”,所以要用不定式作目的状语。故填To join。
    38. 考查过去分词。句意:当他们接近南极时,“Endurance”被困在了冰里。根据句意可知,主语Endurance和stick为被动关系,译为“被困在冰里”,故用get+过去分词表示被动。故填stuck。
    39. 考查定语从句。句意:后来,他们遇到了困难,他们挤在一个礁石岸上的一条船上。分析句子结构可知,此处为定语从句,先行词situation在定语从句中作地点状语,所以用关系副词where引导限制性定语从句。故填where。
    40. 考查非谓语动词。句意:为了寻求帮助,沙克尔顿带领一支队伍乘坐救生艇离开了。句子的谓语动词为departed,所以动词lead要以非谓语动词形式出现。非谓语动词lead和其逻辑主语Shackleton之间为主动关系,所以用现在分词作状语。故填leading。
    41. 考查介词。句意:当他们厌倦了所有的海洋动物肉时,他们知道如果没有海洋动物,他们都会饿死。固定短语be bored with译为“对……厌烦”。故填with。
    42. 考查代词。句意见上一题。在虚拟语气中使用固定句型“If it hadn’t done for sth.”译为“如果不是……”等同于“Without/But for + sth.”引导的含蓄型虚拟语气。故填it。
    43. 考查名词。句意:正是沙克尔顿的坚韧不拔和献身精神把他们从缓慢而痛苦的死亡中拯救了出来。根据空格前的perseverance可知,此处填入不可数名词commitment来作句子的主语。故填commitment。
    44. 考查形容词。句意见上一题。根据空格前的形容词slow可知,可知此处填入形容词painful作定语,修饰名词death,所以填painful。
    45. 考查时态和语态。句意:那次探险当时被认为是成功的失败。根据全文时态以及at that time可知,句子陈述过去发生的事情,要用一般过去时。主语the expedition是单数,且和谓语动词consider是被动关系,用被动语态。故填was considered。

    第二节 读后续写 (满分25分)
    【答案】
I extended my hands. They tentatively sucked at my fingers. Perhaps hunger had helped overcome their natural fear. Then one by one, I placed them in a fur bag and headed back down the slope. When the mother wolf spotted me, she stood up right. Possibly picking up the smell of her young, she let out a high-pitched, plaintive whine. I released the pups, and they raced to her. Within seconds, they were sucking at her belly.
With her young to protect, she was becoming aggressive. What next? I wondered. So tender were the pups that it was impossible for them to survive without mother’s protection. Hence, I had to release her. I fetched an iron bar. Using a rock as the supporting point I unlocked the chain. After gaining freedom, she howled at me with her head low showing gratitude. Watching the mother and her pups disappear in the forest, I let out a sigh of relief.
