    Such donations are not entirely without risk.But 10 years after surgery,a liver or kidney donor is 15% less likely to have died in that decade than the general population.If you give part of your liver,it grows back in eight weeks.If you give one of your two healthy kidneys,you're unlikely to ever miss it.
    However,if enough of us agree to donate organs,we could save the vast majority of the 107,000 candidates,including MeCabe.

    Music tends to get stuck in our heads.Sometimes a tune(曲调)stays on our thoughts and then plays,and replays,which seems never to end.This interesting phenomenon,commonly called "earworm",becomes a subject explored by scientists.Earworms can run around our heads from several minutes to numerous hours.As the melody(旋律)repeats,it becomes stuck in our mind.Even though our ears do not hear the tune,our brain continues to play it.
    Earworms often take the form of song pieces rather than entire songs,and the song is usually a familiar one.Researchers are uncertain why some songs are more likely to get stuck in our heads than others,but everyone has their own tunes.Often those songs have a simple,pleasant melody and charming,repetitive lyrics(歌词),such as popular commercial jingles and slightly annoying radio hits.Recent or repeated exposure to a song or even a small part of a song can also cause earworms,as can word associations,such as a phrase similar to the lyrics of a song.
    How people deal with their earworms depends on how they feel about them.Those with positive feelings about their stuck songs prefer to just "let them be" while those with negative feelings turn to more behavioral responses,such as singing,talking,or even praying.They are also looking at whether everyday activities help,like going for a run or doing a crossword.For them,getting an unwanted tune out of their head is a relief.But of course the song that cures you might just end up being the next one that gets stuck.

    Hill and Barton report that when one competitor is much better than the other,colour has no effect on the result.However,when there is only a small difference between them,the effect of colour is enough the balance.The anthropologists say that the number of times red wins is not simply by chance,but that these results are statistically significant.
    Joanna Setchell,a primate (灵长目动物) researcher at the University of Cambridge,has found similar results in nature.She studies the large African monkeys known as mandrills.Mandrills have bright red noses that stand out against their white faces.Setchell's work shows that the powerful males — the ones who are more successful with females — have a brighter red nose than other males.
    As well as the studies on primates by Setchell,another study shows the effect of red among birds.In an experiment,scientists put red plastic rings on the legs of male zebra finches and this increased the birds' success with female zebra finches,Zebra finches already have bright red beaks(鸟喙),so this study suggests that,as with Olympic athletes,an extra flash of red is significant.In fact,researchers from the University of Glasgow say that the birds' brightly coloured beaks are an indicator of health.Jonathan Blount,a biologist,and his colleagues think they have found proof that bright red or orange beaks attract females because they mean that the males are healthier.Nothing in nature is simple,however,because in species such as the blue footed booby,a completely different colour seems to give the male birds the same advantage with females.

           (2)仔细审题,明确续写要求
           一般短文后面的"注意"都有对此次短文续写的具体要求,如词数限制使用几处标有下划线的关键词语。续写段落的首句提示,这样考生可以做到"心中有数"。
           (3)回扣原文,揣摩续写思路

           在确定了思路和内容之后,最关键的就是结合提示语或者文中画线的关键词拟写草稿。拟写时,注意句子结构的多样性,语言的丰富性,并通过句与句之间连接词的正确使用,使上下文连贯。
