Do you want to go to Spain to experience its festivals in spring? If you do,here are some that are worth experiencing.
    15—19 March:Las Fallas Festival,Valencia
Huge cardboard, wood, and plaster statues are made into the shape of traditional figures or even modern cultural figures like Shrek and former American President Obama. The creations are on display all over the city before being burnt in one of the many bonfires, which takes place among much partying.
    23 April:Saint George Festival,Barcelona
Sant Jordi,or St George,is the patron saint of Catalonia(as well as England and about 10 other countries and regions). But St George's Day in Barcelona is also the city's version of Valentine's Day when romance sweeps the city. The tradition is for the man to give his lady a rose in return for a book.
    30 April to 7 May:Feria de Abril de Sevilla,Seville
Spring Fair, the Feria,is a joyful festival with masses of food, drink, music and dancing. To the west of the city a huge area is given over to creating a small“town”of tents for drinking, eating and socialising. Most of the tents are private and by invitation only, but there are seven public ones.
    MidMay:Fiesta de San Isidro,Madrid
It's Madrid's largest festival.Music and dancing are everywhere with Latin rhythms happening at concerts all over the city. The festival starts with a grand procession of giants, followed by an opening speech in the Plaza Mayor.Over the next few days, entertainment takes over the city's public spaces.

A young painter had just completed a beautiful painting. To get people's opinions about his painting skills,he put his painting at a crossing on a busy street and put up a board that read,“Gentlemen,I have painted this piece.Since I'm new,I might have made some mistakes in my work. Please put a cross wherever you see a mistake.”
When he came back in the evening,he was completely shocked to see that the whole painting was filled with crosses. He ran to his master and said to him,“I'm useless and if this is what I have learnt to paint,I'm not worth teaching.”
The master smiled and said,“I'll let you know that you are a great artist. Now go to paint the same painting again and give it to me.”
Then they went to the same street the next morning and put the same painting exactly at the same place. Now the master took out another board which read,“Gentlemen,I have painted this piece.I might have made some mistakes in my painting.I have put a box with colours and brushes just below. If you see a mistake, pick up the brush and correct it.”Two days later, they came back to the place. The young painter was surprised to see that actually there was not a single correction.
It's easier to criticise but difficult to improve. If you want to help people improve their behaviour, you'd better learn how to help people change their behaviour, attitudes and skills. Also, always remember not to judge yourself by someone else's criticism(批评),because you are the best judge to judge yourself.

5.How might the young painter feel when he saw the crosses on the painting?
    A.Proud. B.Excited.
    C.Sad. D.Moved.
根据第二段中的“I'm useless...I'm not worth teaching.”
6.How did the master help his student know he was a great painter?
A.By teaching the student more painting skills.
B.By asking people not to put any crosses on the painting.
C.By painting a different painting himself and putting it on the street.
D.By putting up a board with different words beside the same painting.
根据第四段中的“I have put a box with colours and brushes just below. If you see a mistake, pick up the brush and correct it.”

Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact(接触) with the ground at all times. It's this strange from that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg,an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem,Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says.According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does,Dr.Norberg says.According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport's strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips,so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says.It takes some practice.
8.Why are race walkers conditioned athletes?
    A.They must run long distances.
B.They are qualified for the marathon.
C.They have to follow special rules.
D.They are good at swinging their legs.
由题干中的关键词conditioned athletes可将解题信息定位至第二段,根据该段中的“But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times.”
9.What advantage does race walking have over running?
A.It's more popular at the Olympics.
    B.It's less challenging physically.
C.It's more effective in body building.
D.It's less likely to cause knee injuries.
根据第五段中的“some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers”可知,一些与跑步有关的损伤,如跑步者的膝盖(受伤),在竞走者中并不常见。
10.What is Dr.Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking?
    A.Getting experts' opinions.
    B.Having a medical checkup.
    C.Hiring an experienced coach.
    D.Doing regular exercises.
根据第五段中的“anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique” 可知,Norberg博士建议任何希望尝试竞走的人或许应该首先咨询教练或有经验的竞走者,以学习正确的技巧,故A项正确。]
11.Which word best describes the author's attitude to race walking?
    A.Skeptical. B.Objective.
    C.Tolerant. D.Conservative.
One of the greatest sources of unhappiness,in my experience,is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are.
When we see something we don't like,we wish it could be different. We cry out for something better. That may be human nature,or perhaps it's something ingrained(根深蒂固的)in our culture. The root of unhappiness isn't necessarily that we want things to be different. However,it's that we decided we didn't like it in the first place. We've judged it as bad, rather than saying,“It's not bad or good, and it just is it.”
In one of my books,I said,“You should expect people to mess up and expect things to go differently than you planned.”Some readers said it's too sorrowful to expect things to go wrong. However,it's only negative if you see it as negative and judge it as bad.Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works and try to understand why that is.
This can be applied to whatever you do:how other people act at work, how politics work and how depressing the news media can be.Accept these things as they are,and try to understand why they're that way.It will save you a lot of sadness, because you'll no longer say,“Oh,I wish bad things didn't happen!”
Does it mean you can never change things? Not at all.But you change things not because you can't accept things as they are,but because you enjoy the process of changing, learning and growing.
Can we make this world a better place? You can say that you'll continue to try to do things to help others,to grow as a person,to make a difference in this world. That's the correct path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path. Therefore, when you find yourself judging and wishing for difference, try a different approach:accept, and understand. It might lead to some interesting results.

15.What is the main theme of the passage?
A.Expecting things to be different gives us hope.
B.Accepting can make our life happier and better.
C.Traditional culture becomes the root of unhappiness.
D.Judging good or bad is important for our world.

根据句中的比较级more effective可知,这里是把running与walking,cycling,swimming进行比较,故填than。]
    41.that/which [考查定语从句。
give sth.a try尝试一下某事。]

    Dear editor,
It is wellknown that a healthy lifestyle is extremely important for everyone, especially for us high school students.Personally,we can do the following to live a healthy lifestyle:Firstly, form a good habit of going to bed early and getting up early.Secondly, have a balanced diet and do some exercise regularly.Last but not least,we should have a positive attitude towards life, which can help us keep happy and forget our troubles.
I hope these suggestions above can be helpful.
    Yours,

(2021·浙江浙南名校联盟期中)Happy,angry,amazed—these are some of the emotions we like to express these days when we're sending messages on our smart phones! That's why many of us now add little pictures to our texts to brighten up someone's mobile screen and we're also using them as a quick way of telling someone how we're feeling.Yes,emojis have become a vital tool for communication.
The emoji was first invented in Japan in the late 1990s and the word“emoji”comes from the Japanese words for“picture”and“character”.The number of different images has dramatically increased since then and now we have pictures for every mood or situation.
So now we have the option to give this new creation the visual “thumbsup”but have you thought about why we've become so addicted to using emojis?Professor Vyvyan Evans has written a book called The Emoji Code.He says,“Increasingly, what we're finding is that digital communication is taking over from certain aspects of facetoface interaction. One of the reasons why emojis are so interesting is that they really do enable us to express our emotional selves much more effectively.”So emojis are a sort of replacement for the visual signals or nonverbal clues we normally give when we speak to someone facetoface.
Another advantage of emojis is that they are an international language—they don't use words but tell a message in the form of pictures so they can be easily understood whatever your native language is.However, the emojis you send need some thought as they can sometimes be misunderstood—if a friend sends you an emoji of a hammer, you may think he is angry when actually he is saying he has hurt himself or he is clumsy!
Emojis are a good way of showing common emotions. But as linguist Neil Cohn says,“To many, emojis are an exciting development of the way we communicate;to others, they are extinction of language.”
