    A

With graduation around the corner, you'll probably start to receive gifts. Whether graduating

from high school or college, you'll need to send thank-you cards to everyone who sends a gift.

They probably won't expect it, but a special card from you would be likely to make their day.

When to Write a Graduation Thank-You Card

It's best to write a thank-you card as soon as possible after receiving a graduation gift. If

possible, do it within a couple of days. Although it's still proper to wait up to a month after

graduation, the longer you wait, the more difficult it will be.

         Why Write a Thank-You Card

Whenever someone takes the time to select a present or do something special for you,

thanking that person is the right thing to do, even if you don't like the gift. The least you can do is

let them know you appreciate their thoughtfulness.

         Keep Track of All Gifts

As each gift arrives, write down what the item is and who has sent it to you. This is necessary

because you'Il need to be specific in the thank-you note.

         Thank-You Message to the Family

Remember to thank the people who supported you the most as you first stepped foot in a

classroom, stood by you throughout your education, and applauded all of your achievements. The

message to your family should be heartfelt thanks for always being there for you.

Note:Your thank-you message to everyone outside your immediate family doesn't need to be

so long or detailed(详细的). Always start by showing your gratitude,  then mention the gift,  and

express how you plan to use it.

    1. What will happen with graduation approaching?

       A. Thank-you cards play the role of celebration.

       B. An excellent student will surely receive more gifts.

       C. It is better to send a thank-you note as early as possible.

       D. You must rock your brains to complete a thank-you note.

       A. You can express your gratitude in brief.

. You can mention what they have done for you.

       C. You can tell your parents what you are to do.

       D. You can make apologies for your mistakes.

Waste sorting is a procedure that involves the separation of waste on purpose into different

kinds as defined( 规定)by the final use for the waste.  That is to say, this separation of waste is

usually aimed at different ends, including for recycling purposes, or even for producing power. As

such, the waste sorting could fall into sorts like paper-based materials ,  plastic-based materials and

organic materials. The process could also be started by hand. Indeed, some companies that

manage waste have some sorts of waste sorting facilities in place for this aim.

An example of the type of waste sorting that could be observed at the individual level is the

common type in cities where various waste bins are set out with clear indications of the type of

waste that should be put into them. Some of the waste bins have pictures indicating that only paper

should be put into the bins, some are meant for cigarette butts(烟蒂 )others for plastics ,  and the

rest could be for any other type of waste. Also, persons at home could begin the process of waste

sorting by dividing the waste into various kinds before taking it out. Some companies and

government organizations even offer incentives, such as offering some money to consumers in

exchange for them bringing in used bottles and plastics.

Some companies have specifically created facilities that are only targeted toward the

large-scale application of waste sorting for the purpose of separating the various collected waste into

One of the purposes for the application of waste sorting could be for the sake of separating

materials for recycling, such as plastics and paper. It could also be for the separation of the waste

into the general categories of wet and dry waste. The process could also be for the purpose of

sorting commercial waste. With the application, I'm sure it is becoming easier to separate waste.

New research suggests that human beings may have been partly responsible for the

disappearance of cave bears thousands of years ago, when the plant-loving animals lived. Some

experts believed that the cooling climate during the Earth's Ice Age was to blame for their

    extinction (灭绝 ) .

Scientists reported last week they had studied genetic data from 59 cave bears. Their bones

were recovered from seven countries: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Spain and

Switzerland. From the genetic information, the scientists noted a decrease in the cave bear

population beginning about 50,000 years ago. That is around the time of the arrival of Homo

sapiens, or modern humans, in Eastern Europe. The researchers said they observed a sharp drop

in the bears' numbers about 40,000 years ago. That coincides with the spread of Homo sapiens

    throughout Europe.

The animals disappeared about 20,000 years ago. The cave bear lived in the Ice Age at the

same time as other now extinct creatures. The bear was as big as a modern polar bear, but ate only

plants. It appears often in prehistoric cave paintings.

There has been a scientific debate about what led to the extinction of the cave bear. Some

scientists believe that the climate change greatly reduced the plants they needed, while others have

blamed human activities, including hunting and taking over the caves where the bears gave birth

and slept during winter.  The bear's population remained largely unchanged for long periods before

climate cooling, including during two noticeably cold periods and other cooling events.

Homo sapiens appeared in Africa more than 300,000 years ago and later moved to other

areas. The study offered new evidence that the arrival of Homo sapiens led to ruin for many kinds

of animals across Eurasia, the Americas and Australia.

    12. How did scientists research on cave bears?

        A. By studying the bones found in some countries.

    B. By observing the paintings on the cave walls.

    C. By being told from generation to generation.

    D. By making research on the polar bears.

    13. When did the cave bear die out?

        A. About 50,000 years ago.           B. About 40,000 years ago.

        C. About 20 ,000 years ago.           D. More than 300 ,000 years ago.

    14. What can we learn according to the fourth paragraph?

        A. Sudden change of climate made cave bears die out.

        B. Cave bears couldn' t adapt to cold environment as quickly as possible.

        C. The loss of cave bears' habitats caused damage to their existence.

        D. Cold periods were very common thousands of years ago.

    15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

        A. Humans Perhaps Partly to Blame for Cave Bears' Disappearance

        B. Homo Sapiens Hunting Kinds of Animals across Eurasia

C.A Debate over Why Cave Bears Suddenly Disa    Id

        D. Scientists Studied Bones Discovered in Seven Countries

    Poor Study Habits

Studying is an art.  Many students do not know how to do it properly, though. It seems as if

they are always behind schedule when it comes to handing in homework, or preparing for a test.

16  Besides, we also show students how to deal with these problems.

17   They put off their tasks until it is almost impossible to do well on them. There are

many ways you can use, for example, better time management. However, for no delay, personal

inner motivation(动力) is  more  important than outer motivation.

Following motivation, each person studies better in certain places.  Libraries, cafes, studying

rooms in schools, and more, are often referred to as good places to devote yourself to your tasks.

18   In this way, you can see what works best for your brain. You will never know for sure

where you study best until you try out many different locations.

Along the same lines with atmosphere, you should know how to get rid of distractions(分心) when studying. There is nothing worse than something breaking your flow when you working on your tasks.  19   When you study, you need to get into a certain mind state and space helpful for studying.

Apart from the above, you should take neat notes.   20   Also, you can memorize data your

brain needs to use for tests. Taking good notes during class keeps you focused on the learning

process rather than on your friend' s jokes, for instance. Having good attention during class can

    change your grade.

    A. Managing time well is of great importance.

    B. You can practice studying in various places.

    C. The following will discuss several bad study habits.

    D. In fact, students need to have peace inside and out.

    E. With great notes, you can recall information from class.

    F. Delay is perhaps the most dangerous habit students develop.

    G. Students need to learnto avoid distractions when they study.
