I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, my parents were very busy. In order to entertain (使快乐) myself, I found pens and paper, and started drawing.
At that time, I thought of drawing just as a hobby. When I was tired of doing homework, I wanted to do something creative. One day, it hit me: How nice would it be if I could do something I love for a living? I did research on the best art schools around the world. One of my friends studied art in the USA. She advised me to go to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). That was the only school I applied to ( 申请) after I graduated from high school.
Luckily, I was accepted into RISD. At first, I felt a little down. I didn’t have my own style. I tried many different things. Finally, Chris Baselli, one of my teachers, helped me find it.
Now, I’ve been working as a full-time illustrator (插图画家) for ten years. I’ve drawn for newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times and The New Yorker. I often get letters from readers. They love my style.
When I get an assignment (任务), I read it over a lot of times. I try to work out the most important message that I need to include in my work. I’m still in the early part of my career (职业). The biggest fear that I have is losing the excitement. I hope that will never happen so that I can keep creating wonderful artworks.

    An unforgettable experience
Everyone has some experiences they can’t forget. For me, doing badly in an interview is an unforgettable experience. It took place about one year ago. In order to work as a volunteer in our city’s museum, I went for an interview.
I’m a shy girl, so naturally I felt very nervous when I faced the interviewers. They asked me to say something about Chinese culture and asked me why I wanted to be  a volunteer. I was so nervous that I made a lot of mistakes. The interview took about ten minutes, but it seemed like ages to me. When it was over, my T-shirt was wet.
The experience made me realize nervousness makes me feel stupid and like a failure. From then on, I stopped being nervous during the interviews by fully preparing for them and breathing deeply to relax. Now I don’t feel nervous anymore when I speak in front of people. Now I have become happier and more confident.

    81. acted。尽管她“行动”迅速,但Willie的警告才是孩子得救的原因。事件已经发生,故填acted。
