    The analysis f teaching material
    The teaching material is the reading part frm junir middle schl English curse. The tpic f this unit is family and hme . This passage mainly intrduces a birthday card . The passage cnsists f ne paragraphs and a cnversatin.paragraph is a general intrductin f the backgrund f making a birthday card and what des the card lk like the cnversatin intrduces what are family members ding . The tpic is nt new t the Ss. But there is sme new wrds and phases in the passage.
    The analysis f learning cnditin
    The students are frm grade1 in junir middle schl. they have achieved certain English level and they have the ability t recgnize the easy wrds and understand the grammar. Since they are in grade1, they may nt summarize the main idea . Mrever they can nt use the sentence pattern in cntext.
    Learning bjecties
    1. Language knwledge
    Ss can master the key wrds and phrases f the passage as fllws, pem, rse, paper.
    Ss can learn the sentence pattern: what is he r she ding? She r he is…..
    2. Language skills
    Ss can scan the passage and find ut the specific infrmatin such as what is bb ding.
    Ss can summarize the passage with the help f the clues f the passage.
    Ss will have a gd habit t take a nte while listening, s that can imprve their listening ability.
    3. Learning strategies
    Ss will cultivate their ability individual learning and cperative learning by ding sme activities independently and sme in grups.
    Ss will cmmunicate with each ther in English while ding the grup wrk.
    4. Cultural awareness
    Ss will braden their minds by knwing smething abut the difference between Chinese and English
    Ss will have the awareness f family.
    Imprtance and Anticipated Difficulties
    As the Ss have a limited vcabulary, s they may have sme difficulties in understanding the passage. S the teacher will help them learn the new wrds and phrases.
    Ss can use the sentence pattern in cntext, s teacher shuld design sme activities.
    Teaching methd
    Three-stage mdel: Based n the understanding f reading as an interactive prcess, teaching reading in the classrm is divided int three stages in which the tp-dwn and bttm-up techniques integrated t develp the students language efficiency in general and reading strategies. The three stages are pre-reading, while-reading and pst-reading.
    Teaching aids
    Multimedia devices and PPT dcuments: In rder t help Ss t fully understand the whle passage, I adpt Multimedia devices and PPT dcuments t bring the real-life situatin int the classrm.
    Teaching prcedures
    Step1. Lead-in (7min)
    Activity1. Greetings and Free-talking (4min)
    T Leads int the tpic by watching a vide, asking Ss what did they see accrding t the vide.
    T: Hell bys and girls.
    (Ss say hell t the teacher.)
    T: What are they ding ?
    (Ss tell they are having a birthday party .)
    T: What did they see accrding t the vide?
    (Ss tell the things n the vide freely.)
    Activity2. Picture-talking (3min)
    Teacher shw the picture frm the vide and let Ss speak the things n the picture.
    T: What can yu see n the picture?
    (T gives them sme wrds abut birthday party.)
    [Aims]
    In this step, T first leads in the tpic by talking with the Ss freely abut the birthday which is familiar t them and then Ss see sme pictures and tell the characteristics.
    Step2. Pre-reading (12min)
    •New Wrds Presentatin (4min)
    T present new wrds with the tpic: birthday card and birthday gifts
    T: What des a birthday card lk like?
    What can we write n the card?
    •Listening(8min)
    Ss shuld write dwn the imprtant wrds abut name and ding.
    T write dwn the name n the blackbard and let ne Ss t write dwn the answer n the blackbard. Other Ss check in pairs.
    T check the wrk n the blackbard and let Ss pay attentin t the verb be
    T let Ss make the whle sentence by using the wrds.
    (Ss will have a gd habit t take a nte while listening, s that can imprve their listening ability.)
    Step3. While-reading (18min)
    Activity1. Skimming (9min)
    Ss skim the whle passage and find ut what des Jenny’s birthday card lk like and discuss in grups..
    T let the representatives try t answer the questin.
    T check the answer n the PPT by shwing the three parts in the card.
    (Ss shuld find the useful infrmatin t interpret the passage, and summarize the main idea.)
    Activity2. Scanning (9min)
    Ss read the text the secnd time and fill in the blanks with the picture.
    T let ne student answer the questin, and the student can chse anther t g n.

    By ding sme many activities, the Ss will develp their reading strategies and language efficiency.
    Step4. Pst-reading (6min)
    Activity1.Describe the Pictures f Family
    Ss will shw the pictures f the family that T asked Ss t prepare.
    T makes an example.
    Ss describe the pictures in grups with the sentence pattern.

    These tw activities are t develp the Ss’ cmprehensive language cmpetence. The rle play serves t be an utput f the reading and an evaluatin f their learning.
