(2022·四川泸州)March 21 is World Sleep Day. Here are some facts about sleep.
    Sleep at advised times
In 2021, the Ministry of Education(MOE)advised that junior and senior high school students should go to bed before 10 pm and 11 pm respectively(分别的).
    How do astronauts sleep
Just like on Earth, a person in space goes to bed at night and then wakes up the next day. But in space there is no up or down, and you do not feel the pull of gravity(重力). As a result, astronauts usually sleep in fixed sleeping bags.
    Earworms happen while sleeping
Some people enjoy listening to music a lot. While we’re awake, the music we know well keeps ringing in our ears, which is called earworms(耳虫现象). This can happen during sleep as well, which could cause problems in getting to sleep and staying asleep.
    Sleep with your pet
Pets, like dogs and cats, do not sleep continuously and they will often get up and walk on the bed, which can make you sleep even worse.
But recent studies found that having pets in the bed may help people who are often worried. The pets, like soft toys, can help cut down their worry.
    Socks can help us sleep
Studies have shown that wearing socks to bed can help you fall asleep faster!
Hands and feet help exchange(交换)heat between the far ends of the body and the heart. Wearing socks means an increase of blood to your hands and feet, which cuts down your core(核心的)body temperature. The lower the core body temperature is, the faster you fall asleep.

The administration said that part of China’s achievements in protecting wild animals lie in setting wild animals into nature reserves(保护区)after human breeding(繁殖). It said that nine milu deer(麋鹿)recently came into the world in the Daqingshan National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia. They are babies of the milu deer, or Pere David’s deer, who were set into the wild in September following human breeding in Beijing and Jiangsu province.

(2021·四川泸州)While I was jumping rope, my smartphone took a fall to the floor which created cracks (裂缝) on my screen. However, the music kept playing 30 minutes later, I could see only one tenth of my screen while the rest was black. The next morning, I decided not to use it for 24 hours. (2020·四川泸州)Curiosity(好奇心) is part of human nature. Children are famous for wanting answers to thousands of questions. Books and TV shows often depend on curiosity. People keep reading or watching because they want to find out what happens. But curiosity also provides many advantages.
Learning is the easiest if you have a desire (愿望) for knowledge. Curiosity can create that desire when you have a question you want an answer to. Many of history’s greatest discoveries were made by curious people. Thanks to their curiosity, people now know far more about the world and have useful technology to help them.
Even if you don’t plan to be an inventor or researcher, curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the joy of learning, classes will become more fun. And you’ll be better because you will fully take part in the process of learning. Even if you're no longer a student, curiosity will make you get more information and then a better worker.
What do you do if you're not already curious? Luckily, curiosity is a skill that can be improved. If you act like you're curious, you’ll quickly start to actually feel curious. Often, the more you learn about a topic, the more interesting it becomes.
As you learn about a topic, collect information from as many sources(来源) as possible. Read different kinds of books, listen to talks and ask questions. For pupils at a village school in Yiyuan county, Shandong province, Ren Jilan has not only been teaching them but also showing them how to face life bravely, especially when things just don’t seem to be working out.
Ren came from a poor family in a Yiyuan county village. She had to do more housework than other children when she was young because both her father and mother were in ill health. With support from her relatives and villagers, Ren completed her 12-year school study and was accepted by Qufu Normal University. But the four-year university experience didn’t go well. After graduation, Ren was faced with chances to work as a teacher in cities, but she chose to return to her hometown and work as a country teacher at Fuluping Primary School. “Teacher Li gave up a well-paid job in a big city to teach children at the village school. I’d like to follow his path to play my part for the education in my hometown.” Ren says.
Fuluping Primary School is 50 kilometers away from downtown Yiyuan county. It was once among the schools with the worst conditions in the county. But the school has its own beautiful and comfortable playground now.
Ren works hard on teaching and taking care of her students. She also spends a part of her money helping two poor students. She received the China Youth May 4th Medal—the country’s top honor for excellent young people.

(2021·四川泸州)Aunt Jia had a snack stand (摊位) in our neighborhood. Her snacks never failed to satisfy my stomach. What’s more, she was always patient with her customers. Even COVID-19 didn’t influence her business.
One day, during the last Spring Festival, I saw a large family visiting her stand. It formed a heart-warming picture: Each family member was enjoying being together. As they were leaving, I noticed Aunt Jia felt a bit sad.
I was amazed. In my experience, she was always smiling. I went forward and ordered my favorite snack. When she was wrapping (打包), I couldn’t help saying, “Happy New Year, Aunt Jia! Why don’t you take a break?” Aunt Jia looked surprised, but she soon replied,“Happy New Year! I love working here in this city. It’s too cold and snowy in my hometown.” I became more curious (好奇的). “Where do you come from? Aren’t your family waiting for you to come home for the celebration?” Aunt Jia stopped for a few seconds. “They sure are”, she answered gently. “But I have to stay here.
