Carnegie Hall is named after Andrew Carnegie, wh paid fr its cnstructin. Cnstructin n Carnegie Hall began in 1890 and the fficial pening night was n May 5, 1891.
The hall was wned by the Carnegie family until 1924 when it was sld t Rbert E·Simn. The building became very ld and in 1960, the new wner made plans t destry it and build an ffice blck. Isaac Stern led a grup f peple wh fught t save Carnegie Hall and finally, the city f New Yrk bught it fr $5 millin. It was then fixed up between 1983 and 1995.

Carnegie Hall is actually made up f several different halls, but the Main Hall, nw called the Isaac Stern Hall, is the mst famus. The hall itself can hld an audience f 2, 804 in five levels f seating.
Because the best and mst famus musicians f all time have played at Carnegie Hall, it is the dream f mst musicians wh want t be great t play there. This has led t a very ld jke which is nw part f Carnegie Hall’s histry. Questin: “Hw d I get t Carnegie Hall? ” Answer: “Practise, practise, practise. ”
