LAS VEGAS—It was different in the light of day.
There was no “pop, pop, pop” of gunfire, no screams. Just a quiet lot of cars abandoned by those, like Kassidy Owen, who escaped with their lives.
“It's strange to hear the silence” Owen said, “because all I remember was the noise”
The 22-year-old was one of dozens of concertgoers who returned to the scene of the Route 91 Harvest festival on Wednesday morning to fetch the vehicles they left behind as they fled from a gunman raining down bullets from high above in the tower of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino across the street.
Survivors of the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday needed their cars to move on with their lives-to get back to work to school, home. It was the first time they were returning to a scene that would forever change them, when joy and celebration and music turned into killing and horror.
Before they could move forward, they had to go back to the place where they thought they were going to die.
Owen had run to her car to hide and had tried to drive away, but she couldn't. People were running, bodies dropped to the ground, and cars bottlenecked in the parking lot. During a brief pause after more than 10 minutes of gunfire, she worried the lights of her SUV made everyone inside a shining target.
“They're shooting again” her best friend's brother screamed. “Turn off the car!”
That's when she got out and fled.
“I just remember shutting the door and running.” Owen said.
Now, nearly three days later, she was back, sitting in the driver's seat of her SUV. Her eyes were swollen and red. This was a long way from over.
“You just keep hearing the gunshots in your head,” Owen said.
    4. Why did Kassidy Owen return to the scene of terror?
    A. To get back her car for daily life. B. To show sympathy to the victims.
    C. To search for her missing friends. D. To look into the cause of the shooting.
    5. What does “cars bottlenecked in the parking lot” in Paragraph 7 mean?
    A. Cars were abandoned in the parking lot.
    B. The parking lot was jammed with cars.
    C. The parking lot was covered with broken bottles.
    D. Cars broke down in the parking lot.
    6. Why did Owen keep hearing the gunshots in her head?
    A. Because she had escaped being caught.
    B. Because she wanted to find the gunman.
    C. Because she couldn't rid herself of those terrible scenes.
    D. Because she had saved others' lives by turning off the car.
    7. What is talked about in the news story?
    A. Survivors went back to where they would die.
    B. Owen's experience in Las Vegas.
    C. How to survive in a mass shooting.
    D. People returned to the unforgettable scene.
A 5. B 6. C 7. A
根据第五段“Survivors of the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday needed their cars to move on with their lives-to get back to work, to school, home.”(周日在拉斯维加斯发生的致命枪击案的幸存者需要他们的汽车继续他们的生活,回到工作、学校和家。) 故选A项。
根据第七段“Owen had run to her car to hide and had tried to drive away, but she couldn't. People were running, bodies dropped to the ground, and cars bottlenecked in the parking lot.”(Owen跑到她的车前想躲藏起来,并试图把车开走,但她没能做到。
根据倒数第二段“Her eyes were swollen and red. This was a long way from over.”(她的眼睛红肿。 以及最后一段““You just keep hearing the gunshots in your head,” Owen said.”(Owen说:“你只是不断听到脑袋里的枪声。”)
根据文章内容可知,全文介绍了拉斯维加斯恐怖枪击事件,事件发生的经过和幸存者劫后余生的感受,以及第六段“Before they could move forward, they had to go back to the place where they thought they were going to die.”(在他们继续前进之前,他们必须回到他们认为自己会死的地方。) 故选A项。

“Tennis一I'm saying goodbye." With these words, Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova, 32, has announced her retirement.
“How do you leave behind the only life you've ever known?" she asked herself. Several reasons played a role in Sharapova leaving the tennis court for good.
Over the last couple of years, she's dealt with an injury in her right shoulder and inflammation (炎症) in her forearms that may have prevented her from returning to top form. In more recent news, the death of her longtime friend, US basketball legend Kobe Bryant, also played a factor in her decision to retire.
“As I think you've seen throughout my career, my perseverance has been my greatest tool, my greatest strength," Sharapova said in an interview.“But I've started feeling like it was becoming a weakness, because the stubbornness that was keeping me going was keeping me going for wrong reasons."
Sharapova rose to fame at age 17 when she won Wimbledon in 2004. She won a total of four Grand Slam singles titles; the 2006 US Open, the 2008 Australian Open, and the 2012 and 2014 French Open. She also earned the Fed Cup title in Russia in 2008 and an Olympic silver medal in singles in 2012, among many other accomplishments. For 16 straight years from 2004, Sharapova was the world's highest-earning female athlete, according to Forbes. Off the court, she made millions of dollars from companies such as Evian and Nike, as well as starting her own candy company.
"Tennis showed me the world - - and it showed me what I was made of," Sharapova wrote on Facebook on Feb 26, alongside a photo of herself as a young girl with a tennis racquet, “It's how I tested myself and how I measured my growth. And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I'll still be climbing. I'll still be growing.”
    8. What contributed to Sharapova' s retirement?
    A. Her stubbornness. B. Her friend's suggestions. C. Her injuries. D. Her growing age.
    9. What does the underlined word “stubbornness?" in paragraph 4 mean?
    A. Tool. B. Perseverance. C. Strength. D. Reason.
    10. What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
    A. Sharapova is the highest-earning female. B. Sharapova donated a lot to Evian and Nike.
    C. Sharapova's companies run successfully. D. Sharapova is a woman of many achievements.
    11. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
    A. Playing tennis taught Sharapova how to advance in life.
    B. Sharapova will continue pushing herself as a tennis player:
    C. Climbing mountains is Sharapova's new interest.
    D. A picture posted online showed Sharapova's growth.
C 9. B 10. D 11. A

根据第三段“Over the last couple of years, she's dealt with an injury in her right shoulder and inflammation (炎症) in her forearms that may have prevented her from returning to top form.

根据第四段““As I think you've seen throughout my career, my perseverance has been my greatest tool, my greatest strength," Sharapova said in an interview.“But I've started feeling like it was becoming a weakness, because the stubbornness that was keeping me going was keeping me going for wrong reasons."(莎拉波娃在一次采访中说:“我想你们在我整个职业生涯中都看到了,我的毅力是我最大的工具,也是我最大的优势。

根据第五段“Sharapova rose to fame at age 17 when she won Wimbledon in 2004. She won a total of four Grand Slam singles titles; the 2006 US Open, the 2008 Australian Open, and the 2012 and 2014 French Open. Off the court, she made millions of dollars from companies such as Evian and Nike, as well as starting her own candy company.(莎拉波娃在2004年赢得温布尔登网球公开赛的时候才17岁,一举成名。

根据最后一段“"Tennis showed me the world - - and it showed me what I was made of," Sharapova wrote on Facebook on Feb 26, alongside a photo of herself as a young girl with a tennis racquet, “It's how I tested myself and how I measured my growth. And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I'll still be climbing. 故选A项。

    D
Faster, cheaper, better-technology is one field many people rely upon to offer a vision of a brighter future. But as the 2020s dawn, optimism is in short supply. The new technologies that dominated the past decade seem to be making things worse. Social media were supposed to bring people together, but they are better known for leaking privacy. E-commerce, ride-hailing (网约车) and the gig economy (零工经济) may be convenient, but they are charged with underpaying workers, worsening inequality and blocking the streets with vehicles.
Today's pessimistic mood is centered on smart phones and social media, which took off a decade ago. Yet concerns that particular technologies might be doing more harm than good have arisen before. The 1920s witnessed a criticism against cars, which had earlier been seen as an answer to the problems caused by horse-drawn vehicles which filled the streets with noise and animal waste and caused accidents. And industrialization was criticized in the 19th century by Romantics who worried about the replacement of skilled workers, the robbing of the countryside and the suffering of factory hands.
However, that pessimism can be overdone. Too often people focus on the drawbacks of a new technology while taking its benefits for granted. Worries about screen time should be weighed against the much more substantial benefits of convenient communication and the instant access to information and entertainment that smartphones make possible. A further danger is that Luddite (反对技术进步者) efforts to avoid the short-term costs associated with a new technology will end up denying access to its long-term benefits-something Carl Benedikt Frey, an Oxford academic, calls a "technology trap". Fears that robots will steal people's jobs may discourage their use. Yet in the long run countries that wish to maintain their standard of living as their workforce ages and shrinks will need more robots, not fewer.
Any powerful technology can be used for good or ill. It is the choices people make about it that shape the world. Perhaps the real source of anxiety is not technology itself, but growing doubts about the ability of societies to hold this debate, and come up with good answers. So as the decade turns, put aside the pessimism for a moment. To be alive in the tech-obsessed 2020s is to be among the luckiest people who have ever lived.
    12. What phenomenon is described in Paragraph 1?
    A. The seriousness of social inequality.
    B. The rapid development of technology.
    C. Problems brought by personal privacy leaks.
    D. Worries about the influence of new technologies.
    13. Which word can best describe Romantics' concern over industrialization?
    A. Negative. B. Uncertain. C. Sympathetic. D. Enthusiastic.
    14. What might be a result of a "technology trap"?
    A. A lack of good jobs in the job market.
    B. An increase in the number of Luddites.
    C. A decrease in the number of skilled workers.
    D. An interruption to the advancement of a new technology.
    15. What is the best title for the text?
    A. Pessimism vs Progress B. Technology vs Civilization
    C. 2020s: The Age of Technology D. Robots: Our Future Caretakers
D 13. A 14. D 15. A

根据第一段后三句“Social media were supposed to bring people together, but they are better known for leaking privacy. E-commerce, ride-hailing (网约车) and the gig economy (零工经济) may be convenient, but they are charged with underpaying workers, worsening inequality and blocking the streets with vehicles.”(社交媒体本应将人们团结在一起,但它们更出名的是泄露隐私。
根据第二段最后一句“And industrialization was criticized in the 19th century by Romantics who worried about the replacement of skilled workers, the robbing of the countryside and the suffering of factory hands.”(在19世纪,浪漫主义者批评工业化,他们担心技术工人的替代,农村的掠夺和工厂工人的痛苦。) 故选A。
根据第三段“A further danger is that Luddite (反对技术进步者) efforts to avoid the short-term costs associated with a new technology will end up denying access to its long-term benefits-something Carl Benedikt Frey, an Oxford academic, calls a "technology trap". Fears that robots will steal people's jobs may discourage their use. Yet in the long run countries that wish to maintain their standard of living as their workforce ages and shrinks will need more robots, not fewer.”(更严重的危险是,路德派试图避免与新技术相关的短期成本,最终会阻碍其长期利益的获得——牛津大学学者卡尔•贝内迪克特•弗雷称之为“技术陷阱”。
根据最后一段“Any powerful technology can be used for good or ill. It is the choices people make about it that shape the world. 故选A。

故将them改为you。
故将And改为But。
使役动词用法:make sb. do sth.
as…as和…

    A Hard-fought Victory

Yesterday afternoon, we held a football match in the second grade of our high school. After long-term preparation and hard training, the strength of our team increased greatly. Our team finally entered the finals.
At the beginning of the game, both teams were very active and played hard. Three minutes before the end, we were still in a draw, one to one. In the last three minutes, our team controlled the ball. We cooperated actively, seeing the football was quickly passed from one person to another. Great! Li Hua, nicknamed “iron head”, flew up and shot into the opponent’s goal before the goalkeeper could defend. The students cheered wildly. We finally won the championship.
I am proud of the hard-fought victory of our class. Once again, I would like to congratulate our brave players. Their team spirit and fighting spirit in the game are worthy of our serious study.
