A large number f peple enjy listening t varius types f music while they paint,write,r draw.Many believe that music helps creativity.
Hwever,an internatinal study cnducted by English and Swedish researchers is challenging that pinin.Psychlgists frm Lancaster University,The University f Gävle,and The University f Central Lancashire say that their findings shw music actually blcks creativity.
T cme t their cnclusins(结论),researchers had participants (参与者) cmplete verbal (文字的)prblems designed t inspire creativity while sitting in a quiet rm,and then again while music played in the backgrund.They fund that backgrund music “badly affected” the participants' ability t cmplete tasks related t verbal creativity.
The tasks were simple wrd games.Fr example,participants were given three wrds,such as dress,dial,and flwer.Then,they were asked t find a single wrd related t all three that culd be cmbined t frm a cmmn phrase r wrd.The single wrd,in this case,wuld be “sun” (sundress,sunflwer,etc).
Participants cmpleted the tasks in either a quiet rm,r while expsed t three different types f music;music with unfamiliar wrds,instrumental music,r music with familiar wrds.“We fund strng evidence f damaged perfrmance when playing backgrund music in cmparisn t quiet backgrund cnditins,” says cauthr Dr.Neil McLatchie f Lancaster University.
T cnclude,the findings challenge the ppular view that music encurages creativity,and instead prve that music cnsistently(持续地)affects creative perfrmance in dealing with prblems.
