    text 2
Like tl making, teaching was nce thught t be an unique capacity f the human mind. It is nt actually.
“Teaching” requires this: ne individual must take time frm their wn task t demnstrate and instruct with effrt and the student must learn a new skill. That’s a tall rder.
When a yung chimpanzee watches a skilled adult and then imitates, that’s learning. But the adult has nt taken time specifically t instruct, s it is nt teaching. In the hneybees’ amazing dance, the dancer takes time t indicate infrmatin abut a surce f fd, but bservers learn n new skill. They d take time t shw, but they d nt pass n new skills t learners.
Dlphins teach. Atlantic sptted dlphin mthers smetimes free a caught fish in the presence f their yungsters and let their yungsters chase it, catching it again if it’s getting away. Dlphin yungsters als psitin themselves alngside mthers wh are scanning sandy bttms fr hidden fish, and the mther spends extra time demnstrating.
Other teachers include: husecats wh bring back live prey and let their yung learn t catch it, and meerkats(猫鼬) wh first bring t their grwing yung dead pisnus insects, then disabled nes, t demnstrate hw t remve the pisnus part n their tails.
Like tlmaking and teaching, imitatin is als cnsidered t reflect high intelligence. In Suth Africa lived a baby dlphin named Dlly. One day while she was just six mnths ld, Dlly was watching a trainer standing at the windw smking a cigarette, blwing puffs f smke. Dlly swam t her mther, gt a muthful f milk, then returned t the windw and released a clud f milk that surrunded her head. The trainer was “abslutely astnished”. Smehw Dlly came up with the idea f using milk t represent smke. Using ne thing t represent smething else isn’t just imitatin. It is art.
    4. What des the underlined phrase “a tall rder” prbably mean in paragraph 2?
    A. A clear instructin. B. A high risk.
    C. A difficult requirement.D. A useful purpse.
    5. What d we knw abut hneybees’ dance?

    B. Husecats teach in a way similar t dlphins.
    C. Yung dlphins must learn hw t free a fish.
    D. Meerkats have pisnus parts n the tails.
    7. Why des the authr use Dlly’s example?
    A. T prve smking can affect ther animals.
    B. T explain dlphins are capable f making art.
    C. T shw animals can be surprisingly intelligent.
    D. T stress milk is t dlphins what smking is t men.

After all the interactin, the kids just may be ready t rest. Take this time t “be quiet and listen t the sunds f the frest,” says Shaw. "Encurage kids t think abut hw these trees have std quietly thrugh year after year f rain, sun, and smetimes even snw.”

Sam, I say t myself as I start acrss the bridge, yu must stp these thughts and start thinking abut what t d nw that yu have lst yur falcn(猎鹰), Frightful.
Life, my friend Band nce said, is meeting prblems and slving them whether yu are a farmer r a space traveler. I have a prblem. I have t prvide my yunger sister Alice and myself with meat. Fish, nuts, and vegetables are gd and necessary, but they dn't prvide enugh fuel fr the hard physical wrk we d. Althugh we have venisn(鹿肉) nw, I can't always cunt n getting it. S far this year, ur venisn has been nly rad kill frm in frnt f Mrs Strawberry's farm.
I decide t take the lngest way hme, dwn the fld plain f the West Branch f Delaware t Spillkill, my wn name fr a fast stream that runs dwn the suth face f the muntain range I'm n. I need time t think. Perhaps Alice and I shuld be like the early Eskims. We shuld walk, camp and hunt, and when the seasns change, walk n t new fd surces. But I lve my tree and my muntaintp.
Anther slutin wuld be t becme farmers, like the peple f the Irquis Cnfederacy wh nce lived here. They settled in villages and planted crn, bush beans and berries. We already grw grundnuts in the damp sil and beans in the pr land. But the Irquis als did hunting games. I can’t d that anymre.
I’m back where I started frm.
Slwly I climb the Spillkill. As I jump frm rck t rck beneath the wds, I hear the cry f the redtailed eagle wh nests n the muntain tp. I am reminded f Frightful and my heart aches. I can almst hear her call my name, Cree, cree, cree, carree.
Maybe I can get her back if I beg the man wh is in charge f the peregrines(游隼) at the university. “But it's the law.” he wuld say. I culd write t the president f the United States and ask him t make an exceptin f Alice and me. That wn't wrk. The president swre t uphld the Cnstitutin and laws f the United States when he tk ffice.
I climb n. I must stp thinking abut the impssible and slve the prblem f what t d nw. I must find a new way t prvide fr us. Frightful is ging t be in gd hands at the university, and she will have yung.
I smile at the thught f little Frightfuls and lift my feet.
When I am far abve the river, I take ff my clthes and bts and bathe in a deep, clear pl until I am refreshed and thinking mre clearly. Climbing up the bank, I dress and sit dwn. I breathe deeply in the muntain air and try t slve my prblem mre realistically.

Sciety tells us that yu can’t teach an ld dg new tricks. But it desn’t have t be that way. A new study published in Human Develpment pints ut that using a childlike apprach t learning can help peple f any age take n and rise t new challenges. 16
Venture (冒险) utside yur cmfrt zne. As adults, we tend t use similar skills day in and day ut: We take jbs in fields we’re already gd at, drive the same rutes t the same places, and fall int rutines we’re cmfrtable with. 17 Switching t smething mre challenging may have mre cgnitive benefits.
18 A fear f making mistakes is anther reasn adults are s slw t learn new things; if we try and fail, we can face criticism, lse mney, r get fired. That’s why it’s imprtant t build up a supprt netwrk f peple--at wrk and at hme--wh allw yu t make mistakes and learn frm them.
Make a serius cmmitment and dn’t give up. 19 If yu can affrd it, spending mney n a new pursuit--fr example, bking a trip t Rme t practice yur Italian--might als make it harder t thrw in the twel.
Learn mre than ne thing at nce. We tend t zer in n ne hbby r ne skill. But dividing that time and energy int three r fur areas will stretch yur brain in all different directins. 20 Fr example, maybe yu started learning a new language in 2018, and this year yu add singing lessns, and next year yu try smething else. Yu can add things gradually based n what yu can handle.
    A. Turn t yur friends and family.
    B. The fllwing strategies will d the trick.
    C. Surrund yurself with encuraging peple.
    D. Telling friends abut yur new gal can help keep yu mtivated.
    E. But all this familiarity limits the parts f the brain we’re using regularly.
    F. That desn’t mean yu shuld start all the new challenges all at nce, thugh.
    G. S feeling cmfrtable can reduce stress and make yu happier and mre prductive.
