One peaceful afternoon, I open a photo album. I turn to a photo of a nice old man I had the honor to meet once. The memories rush back. That old man was not only kind, but also a legend. He was once one of the glorious “Flying Tigers”.
The “Flying Tigers” were also known as the American Volunteer Group. They served in China before the United States officially got involved in World War II. They fought bravely for us against the Japanese. Only a few of them are still alive.
Louis T. Sneddon was a tail gunner and assistant engineer with the 14th Air Force near Kunming.
I expected to meet a serious man, but in fact Louis was kind and always smiled at me.
“I’m happy to be back in your home after 60 years. China has been in my heart although far away,” he said to me.
I was astonished when he told me his story. He finished 30 to 40 flying tasks, with over 900 hours of flight time. The main task was to patrol(巡逻)and attack ships moving between Japan, China and the Pacific islands. Bomb runs would fly low under the radar, drop their bombs and fly over the ships. These were considered to be the most dangerous missions of the war.
“Were you ever afraid?” I asked.
“I don’t know. Well, I didn’t think much about it. I just did it,” he said, with a smile on his face. “But I was fortunate. The 10-member crew of my plane all returned alive. ”
He was badly wounded, but he did not report his wounds and kept flying. His bravery and spirit deeply moved me, while his personality taught me a life lesson.
“Make every day count. ” His words ring in my mind. But the important thing I learnt from him was that we need to overcome our fear. Sometimes we think too much about the consequences, when we should really breathe deeply and take the brave, necessary step.
4.When did the “Flying Tigers” serve in China?
A.When World War II broke out.
B.Before the US was formally drawn into World War II.
C.When America got the final victory in World War II.
D.After China declared war against Japan.
5.Which of the following is TRUE about Louis T. Sneddon’s main task?
A.It was extremely difficult and dangerous.
B.Louis T. Sneddon had to fly for 900 hours in every task.
C.No one but Louis T. Sneddon survived in this task.
D.Louis T. Sneddon was slightly wounded in this task.
6.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Flying Tigers B.A Photo Album
C.Flying Tasks D.The American Volunteer Group
7.What was the intention of the author to write this passage?
A.To memorize a brave soldier.
B.To tell us a lesson of being optimistic.
C.To share his experience with us.
D.To appeal for peace forever.
根据文章第二段第二句“…before the United States officially got involved in World War II. ”可知,在美国被正式卷入第二次世界大战之前,“飞虎队”在中国服役。故选B项。
5.A 细节理解题。根据第六段最后一句可知A项正确。根据第六段第二句可知,他完成了“30 to 40 flying tasks”,总的飞行时间是“900 hours”,不是一个任务就飞行“900 hours”,故排除B;通过第八段最后一句可排除C项;根据第九段第一句可知D项错误。故选A项。
故选A项。
故选A项。

Every year, the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco fills up with dance lovers. They come to take in experimental works of art that all have one thing in common—hip hop. This weekend the San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest, the mission of which is to encourage the evolution of hip hop dance culture while preserving its legacy, celebrates 20 years of presenting exciting hip hop performances.
Each DanceFest has diversity of style and group size, and a balance of local and out-of-town companies. The festival has drawn impressive international talents.
In fact, outstanding technical dance skills are only a basic standard that the festival organizers are looking for. They look for much more groups or solo artists that think outside the box. Artists that use hip hop in a theatrical way or use it to address social issues are sure to stand out. For instance, the 2010 performance “Tables and Chairs” served to highlight the negative effects of alcoholism on society, warning people against the addiction to alcohol.
It would be terribly irresponsible not to mention the founder, Micaya, in any introduction to DanceFest. A popular hip hop dance instructor, Micaya began producing high energy dance shows in the heart of San Francisco in 1993.Students love her classes so much that a San Francisco newspaper once called her “Best Dance Instructor”.
However, Micaya was concerned about the doubtful reputation of hip hop. She made it her goal to get hip hop the same recognition and respect as other dance forms. In 1999 she started DanceFest. It was the first festival of its kind to honor the creativity of hip hop dance in a non-competitive atmosphere. To Micaya, competitive formats leave little room for the magic that comes from true expression. One review said, Micaya’s festival challenges us “to reconsider just how diverse… and embracing hip hop can now be”. Indeed, Micaya brings out the best in dancers, and has given San Francisco one of its finest festivals.
8.Why is the San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest held?
A.To attract international talents.
B.To encourage people to play hip hop.
C.To show the diversity of hip hop style.
D.To promote the development of hip hop dance culture.
9.What does the underlined word “address” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Handle. B.Discuss.
C.Recognize. D.Record.
10.What can we infer about Micaya?
A.She was a popular hip hop composer in 1993.
B.She made hip hop dance less diverse in 1999.
C.She popularizes hip hop dance through the DanceFest.
D.She contributes to the increasing competition of hip hop dance.
11.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.The rise and fall of hip hop.
B.A unique hip hop dance fest.
C.A famous hip hop dancer.
D.The development of hip hop dance fest.
根据第一段中的“…the mission of which is to encourage the evolution of hip hop dance culture while preserving its legacy…” A项曲解文意,第二段最后一句“The festival has drawn impressive international talents.
故选A项。
根据最后一段中的“Micaya was concerned about the doubtful reputation of hip hop. She made it her goal to get hip hop the same recognition and respect as other dance forms.
故选A项。

The spread of Internet learning for huge numbers of people is leading some colleges to offer MOOCs, Massive Open Online Courses. Major universities like Stanford in California and Harvard in Massachusetts have invested millions of dollars to help launch MOOCs.
Those schools and others may have heard an attention-getting prediction. The man who created the MOOC service Udacity says that in fifty years, only ten traditional universities will remain in the world. That prediction came from Sebastian Thrun, a computer scientist probably best known for his part in making Google’s driverless car. He is still a research professor at Stanford University. But he left his teaching position at Stanford to help start Udacity, a provider of MOOCs.
Universities that fail to join the movement for MOOCs may be worried about their chances of survival. Colleges also hope to gain more students and cut operational costs in return for their investments.
Moody’s Investor Service predicts that MOOCs will help large, famous universities gain more students. It says schools that create content for MOOCs can earn money by providing the course material to smaller schools.
But the investment service is warning that smaller, less well-known colleges may suffer because of MOOCs. It says students may want to receive certificates from major universities instead of attending a local junior college that provides traditional credits.
Recently, the University of Washington said it was the first American university to offer credit for MOOCs, credit that could be used toward a degree from the school.
One criticism of MOOCs has been that most courses being offered are in science, mathematics and technology. But several courses in literature are now available.
Professor Nelson says, “How much MOOCs will change college life is still up in the air. I have been of the opinion which is what universities will evolve to do is to still present some traditional classes, but that universities in some sense will be integrated(合并). ”
12.Why do some major colleges join in providing MOOCs?
A.To make profits through Internet learning.
B.To survive in the Information Age.
C.To offer help to other smaller colleges.
D.To attract more investments.
13.What did Sebastian Thrun predict about future college life?
A.Many traditional universities will disappear.
B.Lectures will be given by Al rather than professors.
C.People don’t have to receive education.
D.Traditional courses will be entirely replaced by MOOCs.
14.What used to be the disadvantage of MOOCs?
A.They were demanding for students.
B.They were not friendly to students of arts.
C.They were not acknowledged by most colleges.
D.They were expensive for students to use.
15.What can be inferred from the last paragraph ?
A.More traditional courses will be given in colleges.
B.Students from different universities will study together.
C.The impact of MOOCs on college life is not sure.
D.Professor Nelson is not in favor of MOOCs.
根据第三段第一句“Universities that fail to join the movement for MOOCs may be worried about their chances of survival. ”可知,没有加入到开展慕课运动中来的大学将会担忧自己生存下去的机会。故选B项。
13.A 推理判断题。根据第二段第二句“…only ten traditional universities will remain in the world”可知,Sebastian Thrun 预言未来只有十所传统大学会幸存,因此可以得知世界上很多传统大学将会消失。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“One criticism of MOOCs has been that most courses being offered are in science, mathematics and technology. ”可知,人们对慕课的诟病之一是理工科的课程居多,因此可得知,慕课太过于侧重于理科,因此它不支持文科生。故选B项。
15.C 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“How much MOOCs will change college life is still up in the air. ”可知,Professor Nelson认为慕课会多大程度上改变未来的大学生活仍然是未知的。因此可推断出慕课对未来的大学生活的影响还不确定。故选C项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)
Three in five people in the UK hold a library card. For some, libraries are a shelter from the stresses of day-to-day life. __16__ If you’re considering joining your local library, now is the time to do so. And if you need any more encouragement, here are several reasons why you should.

There are lots of modern ones, as well as original ones, and you can continue to expand your learning and vocabulary all the time. It’s a priceless experience, especially for kids, and also a great way to level the educational playing field.
Libraries develop with times. They have changed greatly since decades ago. __19__ Some libraries have apps so you can see when your books are due back and even reserve books in some cases. There are also libraries which let you access books in digital formats on your mobile device—pretty cool.
Libraries are one of very few spaces left in towns and cities where members of the public can come together and actually be and feel like a community. They have noticeboards to offer services like exercise classes or learning centers. __20__

B.Libraries help educate the kids.
C.They create a great sense of community.

结合第一句中“Nicole was a baby of only 28 months”可知,Nicole只有28个月大,所以应是送去看护中心,nursery center是固定搭配。故选A项。
A.day天;B.minute分钟; C.moment时刻;D.hour小时。

36.has been keeping/has kept 所以填has been keeping/has kept。

One possible version:
Dear_John,_
Our school will organize us to do community service in Fumin Village next Saturday. Now let me tell you more details.
The event is a way for us to be well-rounded students with the intention of carrying out labor education and helping students get the habit of laboring. We should make some preparations for the event, such as buying gloves and brooms. In addition, a watering pot is a recommendation for us. After our arrival, we will clean up litter and weeds around there. One more interesting thing is that we will water the crops by using the pot bought in advance.
Sincerely invite you to join us. Please tell me your idea.
Yours,
Li_Hua

It was only a dollar. Dylan Belscher noticed it on the floor as he sat at the back of his English class. When the school day ended, Belscher wandered back to the classroom. The wrinkled old bill was still there. He could easily have pocketed it without thinking twice. Instead, he picked it up and brought it to his English teacher, Katie Mattison.
“It wasn’t my money,” Belscher says, which he sees as ample explanation. Mattison, 54, was a little surprised he’d turned the dollar in, knowing a lot of people would have just kept it. She suggested that Belscher tape(粘贴) it to the whiteboard at the front of the classroom, where she always puts lost things. Maybe the dollar was lunch money or bus fare for the student who dropped it. “You can always tell when someone is looking for something,” Mattison says.
A day or two later, the school shut down for Easter break. Neither the teacher nor her student thought twice about the dollar. Taping it up “was just good karma,” says Belgeher.
Hunter Rose, then a senior, was in English class after break when he spotted the dollar on the whiteboard. There was a mystery to it, Rose says. After class, he asked Mattison why it was there. She was still waiting for the original owner to claim it, so she replied, “I don’t know. ”
Rose took the tape from Mattison’s desk and taped a second dollar to the board. That got it rolling. The sight of the two-dollar bills, side by side, stimulated something in Mattison’s students. They started asking about the purpose of the money, to which Mattison always gave the same answer: She didn’t know. At that point, it was absolutely true.
More students, excited, taped up single dollar bills. Mattieon-an experienced teacher who recognized a phenomenon in the making-wrote the initials of each student on each specific bill, and she started to leave the tape on the tray of the whiteboard.

One possible version:
The_effort_snowballed_and_many_students_wanted_to_be_part_of_whatever_this_was. Jake Braniecki: another senior, says everyone understood that the eventual plan for the dollars would be for “something good”. He taped a $20 bill and a $10 bill to the whiteboard. Megan Makowski dug into her Christmas and birthday savings and taped up another $20.The amount continued to grow over several weeks, until it reached $175.76.As for the original dollar, the person who lost it never came looking.
That left Mattison to decide upon the best resolution. She thought of her brother Jack Hain. Eight years earlier, Jack had died of a rare and devastating neurological disease — ALS. Mattison told that story to all her classes. She asked the teens whether they minded if she donated the dollars in their names to ALS Institute established to seek a cure for the disease. Their answer was to tape enough money to the whiteboard to push the amount and make the donation. Mattison choked back tears at this.
