On April 19th, a pottery (陶器) exhibition was held at Wuhan Optical Valley Experimental School. Many pieces of pottery in different sizes were shown at school. Some were a bit broken, but all of them were beautiful works of art created by the students.
At the end of last year, the school started a project that called on teachers to collect disused or broken pieces of pottery from the countryside. So far, they have collected about 3,000 pieces.
“Pottery used to play an important role in the daily lives of Chinese people,” school head Ma Guoxin told the reporter. “By pottery painting, the students can improve themselves in many ways. They can better understand the history of the pottery, put their creativity into the pottery and show the love for life and beauty.”
Students turned the pottery into different works of art. They were all encouraged to paint pictures on the pottery, even though some students didn’t know how to paint. In March, the school held a pottery painting competition. Wang Zixuan, a student from Grade Eight, with little knowledge of painting, painted a beautiful night scenery on a piece of pottery. It was so nice that many students loved it.
Almost every classroom has colored pieces of pottery. They are either used as flowerpots or pen containers (笔筒). The school has also set up several art corners to show the pottery. For example, the students have put some pottery on bookcases outside of a lecture hall (报告厅). It has become an enjoyable place for students to rest and read.

We touch our faces all the time, and it had never seemed to be a big problem. A recent study shows touching our faces-the “T-zone” of our eyes, nose and mouth in particular can mean giving ourselves the deadly virus.
This is why organizations like the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)have suggested that we should avoid touching our faces. Yet, stopping this “simple” behavior might be harder than you think because it’s already fixed into our system. That is to say face-touching is subconscious, which means it’s very hard to change “because you don’t even know you’re doing it”, said Sawyer.
But face-touching has its functions. Some face touching is an automatic behavior when there is an itch (痒) on your nose, you’ll scratch it without thinking. According to CNBC, a 2014 study found that touching your face also helps to reduce stress and regulate mood. For example, you’re more likely to do it when you feel nervous or embarrassed. According to Dacher Keltner, a professor at the University of California Berkeley, US, this action may also come with a social function: When you are talking to someone and want to change the topic, for example, touching your face is like “the curtain (幕) on a stage, closing up one act of the play, ushering in the next, Keltner told the BBC.
You can’t help touching your face, but you’re not alone. In a 2015 study, where a group of medical students were filmed in class, it was found that they touched their faces an average of 23 times an hour-with 44 percent of the touches being in the “T-zone”. That was quite surprising since medical students were supposed to know better.
Since it’s hard to shake the habit, maybe the easiest way is to wash our hands more often. This way, we can be sure that our hands are free from the virus.
Tips for keeping your hands away:
※ Tie up your hair so your face won’t itch because of the stray (散落的) hair.
※ Keep your hands occupied (被占用的) e. g. with a stress ball.
※ Ask a friend to keep an eye on your hands.
    57. It is hard to stop touching faces because people ________.
    A. feel happier while doing it B. are born with the behavior
    C. don’t realize it while doing it D. don’t take it seriously
    58. In Keltner’s opinion, touching faces during a conversation probably means ________.
    A. getting an itch in the face B. moving on to another topic
    C. showing an interest in the subject D. feeling nervous about the talk
    59. Who is doing right to keep hands away from faces?
    A. Tony relaxes himself by holding stress balls.
    B. John usually puts his hands on the rose.
    C. Sally gets her hair down even in hot summer.
    D. Mary advises her friends to do eve exercises.
    60. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
    A. Washing hands more often helps stop touching faces.
    B. Touching the T-zone will make you die soon.
    C. More medical students should take part in the study.

Many animals live in and around bodies of water. Take ducks, for example.
Ducks love the water. You can often see them floating (漂浮) happily on the surface of lakes, creeks, rivers and ponds. Ducks swim in all kinds of weather. Feathers protect them against the cold. They are great hunters. You can watch them diving (潜水) down under the water for food, with their bottoms and webbed feet. Ducks often live near water. This is where they mate and lay their eggs. So, you could say that ducks really know water. In nature, they are water experts.
It comes to our first expression: to take to something like a duck to water. This means you are really good at something without even trying very hard. It is not a struggle (挣扎) for you at all. It is almost as if you were born to do it. And you really enjoy it. For example, the first time the boy got on a bicycle he rode surprisingly well. You could say he took to biking like a duck to water
The next one also describes something easy with “duck” and “water”. When something is like water off a duck’s back, it is not big deal. Whatever has happened has had no lasting effect on the duck or anyone else. This expression comes from the fact that duck feathers are waterproof. They let water run off a duck’s body. The feathers are perfectly designed because the birds spend so much time in water. In English, we use this saying when talking about something that has happened to someone, but the person doesn’t seem to care. They are not worried at all. For example, Hope is very easy-going, exactly. Things that would upset most people just don’t affect her at all. Most things are like water off a duck’s back.

    【答案】例文
What makes a great person great
In my mind, Yuan Longping, a rice scientist and a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the greatest person in the world.
As we all know, Yuan Longping has spent all his life to the research and development of better rice plants. He has solved the problem of hunger which is one of the most difficult problems in the world. Because of his effort, millions of people's lives are saved.
During the research, though he experienced many failures, he never gave up. He insisted on trying to find new type of hybrid rice. He is considered as the “Father of Hybrid Rice”, but he takes no notice of the fame.
All of these made him the greatest scientist in the world, I think. As a teenager, we should set this great person as an example. When we have difficulty in our life, we are supposed to move on until we realize our dreams.
