Unit 5 Why do you like koalas
Period 1(1a-2d)
I. Teaching aims
1. Knowledge aims:
Ss learn words and useful expressions: tiger, elephant, koala, panda, lion, giraffe, zoo, animal, pet, cat, leg , kind of
b. Ss can talk about what animals they like and dislike , use the adjective words to describe the animals and where the animals are from.
Why do you like the koalas? Because they are cute.
Why don’t you like the tigers? Because they are scary.
Where are the pandas from? They are from China.
2. Ability aims:
To train the Ss’ ability of describing the animals.
To train the Ss’ listening abilities by catching the key words..
3. Emotion aims:
Ss will know to protect the animals.
II. Teaching important and difficult points:
Ss can describe the animals freely.
Ss can grasp the phrase “be from”.
III . Teaching aids: PPT, A tape player.
IV. Teaching procedures:
Steps | Purpose |
Step 1: Warming and free talk 1 Watch a movie “animals” 2 Ask the students if they like animals, where they can see many animals and what animals they know. | Arouse Ss’ enthusiasm of learning and taking part in this class. |
Step 2: Presentation 1. Teach new words and new sentences. Where are the pandas from? They are from… . 2. New words challenge. 3. Pair work “What animal do you like?” 4 . Match the words with the pictures(1a). | 1. Let Ss learn the new words, phrases and sentences of this period directly. 2. To train the students remember the new words. |
Step 3 Listening 1 . Listen and check the animals (1b) 2. Practice the dialogue. | 1. To train Ss’ listening ability by catching the key words. 2. Students learn to talk what animals they like and dislike. |
Step 4 Presentation Teach new adjective words to describe the animals. | Let Ss learn the new words, phrases and sentences of this period directly. |
Step 5 Practice what animal they want to see and why.(1c) | To train Ss’ expressing ability. |
Step 6 Listening 1. Listen and write the animals you hear. Draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from.(2a) 2.Listen again. Complete the conversation with the words in 2a.(2b) | To train Ss’ listening ability by catching the key words.
