    第二节 阅读理解

    A

Scientists in New Zealand are developing drones (无人机) and small radars to follow insects to try to protect threatened species. The new technology involves attaching radars to the insects to follow their movements. The devices connect electronically to drones that will track the insects in real—time. The scientists are with the University of Canterbury on New Zealand’s South Island. The team says it hopes the technology will lead to a deeper understanding of the country’s troubled insect populations.

The research builds on years of experience in the area of bird conservation, in which radio tracking methods have helped to protect many threatened species. But that technology had to be made much smaller for use on insects. The researchers have now made about 20 small “harmonic” devices that can be attached to insects. The insects can then be tracked over wide areas by drones.

Steve Pawson from the university’s College of Engineering, said that bird-tracking technology is what made the researchers start looking for a similar solution to follow insects.

The information from tagged birds, Pawson said, “really informs conservation management.” The same system can help scientists learn more about many different insect behaviors, he added, like how far they move, where they look for food, and even, how long they live.

“If we have that knowledge, then we can incorporate (包含) it into our decision making and our planning for conservation management operations,” Pawson added.

The researchers plan to begin tests of the system on ground-based insects before moving to the greater complexities of tracking insects in flight. They hope to begin field testing by 2023.The team says the research could possibly be useful in other scientific fields as well, such as biosecurity or medical imaging.

    1. What do we know about the new technology?

    A. It uses devices as big as those on birds.

    B. It can better control insects’ movements.

    C. It will increase the number of insects quickly.

    D. It is developed based on bird-tracking technology.

    2. What does the underlined part “that knowledge” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

    A. The information from tagged birds.

    B. Knowing the use of drones and radars.

    C. The information about insect behaviors

    D. Knowing how to protect endangered species.

    3. What can we infer from the last paragraph?

    A. The research has some limitations.

    B. The research will be completed in two years.

    C. The research will start with insects in flight.

    D. The research may be applied for other purposes.

    4. What may be the best title for the text?

    A. The Study of Tagged Species

    B. The Protection of Troubled Species

    C. Drones to Study Threatened Insects

    D. Bird-tracking Technology in New Zealand

    【答案】1. D    2. C   3. D   4. C

    B

We all know cameras. But have you heard of Google's new camera? It is a small, smart device, called Clips. It comes with a case that has a clip 夹子,but it's not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photographs out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own.

This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera , with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smart phone.

Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms 计算程序to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. "Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it'll try to get nice photos of those faces. " said Juston Payne, the device's product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved training it to know what happiness looks like. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot--like when a child's hand is over the camera, or if it is thrown in a dark purse.

The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing.

Did people think it was strange? Yes, but Payne said nobody need worry about safety. A green light on the front shows that the device is on. Besides, it is not connected to the Internet.

“This product is only possible because technology has advanced. " Payne said. It was only in the past year that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. “Going forward, we're likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps. " He added.

    5. Which is the most striking feature of Clips?

    A. It is pretty small and cute. B. It takes photos on its own.

    C. It has a longer battery life. D. It can be worn on your clothes.

6 Why does the author mention “child” in Para 2?

    A. To clarify a concept.

    B To present a fact

    C. To explain a feeling.

    D. To make a comparison.

    7. How can one see the photos taken by Clips?

A By connecting Clips to the Internet.

    B. By learning the machine algorithms.

    C. By linking Clips with your mobile phone.

    D. By advancing science technology further.

    8. What is Payne's attitude towards the application of AI into apps?

    A. Critical. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful.

    【答案】 BACB

    第三节  七选五

    阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Humans have little difficulty recognizing one another. And we know that no two faces are exactly alike. Even identical twins have slightly different faces. Each human face is truly unique. Usually we judge a person from his personal facial features. 1

Governments, employers and security and police services are increasingly using facial recognition technology. 2      Systems are becoming so advanced that a wanted criminal can instantly be picked out of a crowd of thousands of people. All that's required is an image in a database to compare with the image of any number of people in a crowd. Ordinary people, too, are using facial recognition to unlock their phones, their computers and other devices.

3       It is convenient, easy to operate and it also relieves us of the need to memorize passwords. However, a device will require a password in the rare event that it doesn't, for whatever reason, recognize the user's face.

There are numerous concerns about the use of facial recognition. 4      The installation of more and more cameras in public and private places is now part of everyday life. This means people can be observed and recognized wherever they go. Cameras may make public spaces safer, but keeping law-abiding 守法的citizens under constant watch is disturbing too many.

In the age of the coronavirus and the widespread wearing of masks, facial recognition systems are having some difficulty. A mask covers many of the facial data points used by recognition software to confirm a person's identity. 5       That could affect how dependable it is.

    A. The major concern is that it threatens privacy.

B, The cameras may need to be replaced frequently.

    C. This allows them to quickly confirm an individual's identity.

    D. Personal facial recognition protection has strengths and weaknesses.

    E. In response, facial recognition systems are being trained to use less facial data.

    F. And now we've invented machines used to recognize faces for different purposes.

    G. In short, the data show that facial expressions are not universal signals of human emotion.

    【答案】1-5 FCDAE
