www.ks5u.comTIANJIN, Dec.12, 2018 (Xinhua)—Striking Chinese gongs for 50 years, Liu Zibin, a 70yearold folk artist in Tianjin Municipality, is eager to introduce the traditional musical instrument used in Chinese opera to more people.

Liu became addicted to Chinese opera in his childhood when his grandfather frequently took him to watch performances. At the age of 13, he joined Hebei bangzi training team. Hebei bangzi is one of the oldest types of Chinese opera in northern China, which became popular in the Qing Dynasty. It is a traditional Chinese opera combining music, vocals, dance and acrobatics.

“It took me hours to practice the basic skills of gongs” he said. “This round piece of metal can help performers on the stage to express joy and sorrow when hit by a stick with different rhythms, so I must bear in mind all kinds of rhythms for various situations. For example, striking gongs with a quick tempo can create a tense atmosphere for action scenes.”

In the 1960s and 1970s, the reorganization of opera troupes in Tianjin forced many members to switch their jobs to those in factories. Thanks to Liu's brilliant skills, he was fortunate enough to go to one of the three biggest Beijing Opera troupes in Tianjin to continue his gong life.

Ten years ago, Liu retired, but he still goes to an opera teahouse almost every afternoon to strike the gong for opera performances. In 2006, Hebei bangzi was listed into China's national intangible cultural heritage. However, he worries about maintaining the art as fewer and fewer youngsters are learning percussion, especially gongs. “People who strike the gong stay behind the scenes. It is hard for them to gain fame and fortune”he said.Although many amateurs have learned from Liu over the years, some gave up easily.“It's a bit dull and boring to continuously strike a gong for 40 minutes at the practice stage. It requires patience. Few can bear the hardship” he said.

Various kinds of Chinese gongs are neatly placed at Liu's home. He is waiting for more people to take over his career and spread the traditional Chinese art.

1What can we know about Liu Zibin from the 2nd paragraph?

AHis grandfather founded Hebei Opera Troupe.

BHe showed interest in Chinese opera as a child.

CHe was the only one who could strike gongs in the troupe.

DHis grandfather taught him to sing Hebei bangzi.

根据第二段中的“Liu became addicted to Chinese opera in his childhood when his grandfather frequently took him to watch performances. At the age of 13, he joined Hebei bangzi training team.”

2Why did some members of the opera troupe turn to factories in the 1960s and 1970s?

ABecause of the reform of the opera troupes.

BBecause no one showed interest in opera then.

CBecause they could earn more money in factories.

DBecause the opera troupe was badly lacking in funds.

根据第四段中的“In the 1960s and 1970s, the reorganization of opera troupes in Tianjin forced many members to switch their jobs to those in factories.”

3How old was Liu Zibin when he retired?

A55 years old.       B60 years old.

C65 years old.  D70 years old.

4What can we conclude from the text?

APeople striking the going will never become famous.

BGrasping the skill of striking the gong is anything but challenging.

CLiu expects the traditional Chinese art will draw more people's attention.

DHebei bangzi is now the world's intangible cultural heritage.

    B

Fiveyearold Prisilla Perez, a student at Meador Elementary School in Willis, was unhappy with her recent haircut, which resulted from a severe disease. When students in her class started calling Prisilla a boy, she felt ashamed, often crying and losing focus in school.

Her teacher, Shannon Grimm, sympathized with her unhappiness. Grimm and Prisilla's mom were concerned, but their ideas didn't work. “We had classroom discussions about how girls have short hair and boys have long hair, and I showed them photos of movie stars with different looks” Grimm said. “However, it wasn't sinking in.”

Grimm thought about Prisilla throughout the winter break, and one morning, she had an idea: Cut off her hair — a scary thought for Grimm, who wore her hair long and took pride in it. “I've never had short hair, and I stressed about it for two weeks before making a decision” she said. On Jan. 4, Grimm invited a hairstylist friend to her home. “I told him to keep going, even if I cried” she said.

The class loved their teacher's new do, especially Prisilla, who excitedly ran off the school bus that afternoon yelling, “Mom, Ms Grimm cut her hair” The teacher also bought matching bows for herself and the girl, so they could style their hair together.

In February, the teacher recommended Prisilla for the school district's Student of the Month Award, but during the Monday ceremony, she received a surprise “hero medal” from the girl. “Now we have matching awards” says Grimm.

Prisilla's mother, Maria, said that Grimm's thoughtfulness brought her to tears. “I was shocked. I was crying. I couldn't believe it — she did something I wouldn't have the bravery to do. I will never forget that.”

5Why was Prisilla unhappy at school?

AShe wasn't satisfied with her teacher.

    BShe couldn't concentrate in class.

CShe was laughed at by her classmates.

DShe couldn't get on well with others.

根据第一段第二句“When students in her class started calling Prisilla a boy, she felt ashamed, often crying and losing focus in school.”

6What made Grimm have her own hair cut?

    APraise from her students.

    BDevotion to her students.

    CRequest of Prisilla's mother.

    DSuggestion from the hairstylist.

根据第三段的内容,尤其是“Grimm thought about Prisilla ...  she had an idea: Cut off her hair”可知,Prisilla因为是短头发而被同学嘲笑,为了安慰Prisilla, Grimm老师决定把自己的头发剪短。

7What can we know about Grimm?

AShe had her hair cut together with Prisilla.

BShe expressed her sincere thanks to her pupils.

CShe hesitated a lot before having her hair cut.

DShe won a gold medal for facing difficulties bravely.

根据第三段第二句中的“I've never had short hair, and I stressed about it for two weeks before making a decision”可知,Grimm老师剪短头发之前很犹豫。

8What is the text mainly about?

AHow Grimm helped her student out.

BWhat problem Prisilla had at school.

CWhy Prisilla won the Month Award.

DWhen Grimm got her new hairstyle.

When students in her class started calling Prisilla a boy的同义替换,同时要防范错选曲解文意的D项。

It was a warm and sunny morning at the Central Park Zoo. Mary and her classmates were chatting noisily with excitement as their school bus entered the zoo parking lot. Today, Mary's class was going on a field trip to the zoo to learn more about the animals and their natural habitats.

“Before you leave the bus, please make sure you have your partner” Mrs Brown announced. To make sure no one got lost in the zoo, each student had a companion. Mary's companion was named John. John loves animals and was also excited to go to the zoo. But sometimes, John does not follow the rules and gets in trouble. Mary hoped that today, John would follow the rules so they would not get in trouble.

While the rest of the students got off the bus, Mary and John quickly ran off to explore. They found the exhibits for many different kinds of animals and learned a lot about their natural habitats. They saw the elephants playing and they saw giraffes eating. They saw the polar bears sleeping and the monkeys leaping. Mary asked John

“John, what is your favorite animal

“I think I like chimpanzees best. They have a lot of energy, just like me! What animal do you like, Mary

“I love polar bears! I think their lifestyle in the Arctic is very interesting.”

A few hours later, Mary and John started to feel hungry. They made their way back to the zoo entrance to eat lunch at the Rainforest Café. The Rainforest Café is both Mary and John's favorite restaurant because there is an aquarium inside. The restaurant is also famous for its chocolate cake, which Mary ordered for dessert after they had finished their lunch.

As Mary was finishing her cake, John excused himself to go to the restroom. About ten minutes later, an suddenly alarm began to go off and a voice came over the loudspeaker“Attention! Someone has opened the chimpanzee exhibit! Some chimpanzees have escaped

People were screaming and starting to run. Mary looked for John, but he was nowhere to be found.

    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式作答。

    Paragraph 1

As more and more people ran out of the zoo, Mary began to think

    Paragraph 2

As Mary raced up the path to the animal exhibits, she stopped

    Paragraph 1

As more and more people ran out of the zoo, Mary began to think where John could be. With a mixture of fear and anxiety, Mary started leaving the restaurant to search for her partner. As she looked around the zoo grounds, it occurred to her that John had told her that chimpanzees were his favorite animals. John wouldn't have left the restaurant to release the chimpanzees, would he? Oh no! Mary was sure she knew where John had gone.

    Paragraph 2

As Mary raced up the path to the animal exhibits, she stopped because she saw John with two chimpanzees held in his arms. He offered a small, guilty smile. “I didn't mean to let them escape” he said. “I just wanted to set them free so that they could play outside for a little while” he continued with excitement. “I took the key from a zookeeper who wasn't looking. But then, the exhibit lock broke and ...” Behind Mary, Mrs Brown had begun to walk up the path and saw John holding the animals. It was clear from her serious expression that he was in big trouble.
