    Step 1 Pre-reading
    Activity 1
    1.In grups,Ss discuss the celebratins f festivals with family , answer the fllwing questins and fill in the table.
    Q1: What festivals d yu celebrate with yur family each year?
    Q2:Why d yu think peple celebrate different festivals?
    Ss lk at the tw pictures in the passage.Students say the English name f the festival and the basis f their judgment accrding t the situatin, bjects and wrds presented in the tw pictures.
    Q: What festivals are the tw pictures abut? Hw d yu knw?
    Based n the title f the article and the illustratins in the passage, the students can guess what the authr may be talking abut. The teacher can ask individual students t express their pinins and list the pints mentined n the blackbard.
    Step 2 Reading
    Activity 2
    Students with "Why d we celebrate festivals?"The teacher can present the fllwing sentences fr the students t fill in after reading:

Hwever, since festivals exist in every cuntry and culture, there must be sme similarities. What are they? Please discuss these questins with yur partner and share yur ideas.

    Read the text again and find sme sentences r expressins that yu find difficult t understand.Teachers can als ask students t find sme subtle sentence patterns and expressins in the text and encurage them t use them in writing.Accrding t the students' feedback, the teacher will write sme typical sentences n the blackbard.Such as:
