Distance runners ften wrry abut“hitting the wall”during training r races—that terrible mment when negative thughts becme s verpwering that they make it difficult t cntinue.
Hitting the wall typically happens arund 20 miles in a marathn,when the bdy's supplies becme exhausted.At this pint,many runners feel exhausted and discuraged,slw their pace,have truble fcusing and want t quit r walk.
“Generalized tiredness,unintentinally slwing their pace,the desire t walk,and shifting fcus t just surviving the marathn appear t be particularly cmmn characteristics f it,”said Dr.Alistair McCrmick,an exercise psychlgist in England wh cauthred a new study.“A marathn becmes a real mental battle when runners‘hit the wall’.”
Psychlgical blcks are an extremely cmmn experience fr recreatinal endurance(耐力)athletes,accrding t the study.T learn hw they affect peple,sprts psychlgists asked 30 recreatinal runners and cyclers abut the psychlgical demands f training,preparing fr and participating in cmpetitins.
