I went online to check if my pay was in my bank account. To my amazement I discovered that not only had I been paid,a company I'd never worked for had also paid me! I knew I'd have been beside_myself if my own salary was not in my account,so I tried to get the money back to the right person.Easier said than done.
The bank couldn't help as it wasn't a bank problem. The human resources department at the company that paid me was unable to help as I didn't have enough details.I rang the bank again.Thankfully I had a sympathetic call operator who gave me a name,so I again rang the company “Daniel”worked for.
I expected the bank would contact me to arrange to take the money from my account and repay Daniel.I heard nothing for a month and the money remained in my account when Daniel called, explaining he'd tried to get back his money but had been unsuccessful as neither the bank nor his company felt it was their error. He had rung to ask if I could speak to the bank, but after chatting for a few minutes we realized we could probably fix this problem ourselves.
We decided I would take the money from my account and he would pick it up from me.Due to my busy job I was unable to meet Daniel personally but he left me a lovely bottle of wine in exchange for what was rightfully his.I never had any intention of keeping Daniel's pay but red tape(繁文缛节) made it difficult to do the right thing. It all came down to two people being able to do what a huge bank and a large company couldn't do—admit a mistake has occurred and fix it.

C.really thankful D.at ease
答案:B 词义猜测题。根据“if my own salary was not in my account”可知,这里假设的是作者没有收到工资,所以作者不可能会感到非常幸运、感激或自在,故排除A、C、D;beside oneself失去自制力,这里的意思是“很生气”,故选B。
3.How was the problem solved in the end?
A.The author and Daniel solved the problem themselves.
B.It cost Daniel a lovely bottle of wine to get back his money.

A private group of scientists have announced plans to make an exact copy of a human being. An American member of the team says he and the others will soon begin a serious effort to clone humans.Panos Zavos says the team hopes to manufacture the world's first cloned baby within the next two years.
In recent years, scientists have produced exact genetic copies of sheep and a few other animals. They created these clones from a single cell of an adult animal.
Three years ago, another American doctor,Richard Seed, announced plans to clone a human being. However, there is no evidence that he has been successful.
Doctor Zavos says the new international group plans to offer human cloning only to women who are currently not able to become pregnant or produce children. He says the aim is to assist people who want to have their own biological child.
The technology would be similar to that used to clone animals. It would involve cleaning genetic material from a woman's egg.Doctors then would place genetic material from the woman's husband into the egg before putting it into the woman's uterus(子宫).
Doctor Zavos says his group plans to do the work in a country near the Mediterranean Sea.He did not name the country. He says an Italian reproductive expert,Sevorino Antinori,is leading the team.Doctor Antinori has led the efforts to help many older women become pregnant. He is known for establishing pregnancies in women as old as sixty.
Many medical experts and other groups are opposed to the idea of cloning humans. Several countries ban or restrict work on human cloning.Several doctors criticize the announcement by Docton Zavos. They say doctors do not know if cloning humans is possible or safe. They say it would be irresponsible to attempt to clone a human being. That is because the chances of success are too small and the risks are too great.

8.Which is the proper title for the passage?
A.Debate on Cloning Humans
