The hand-drawn psters kept catching Aviram Chen’s eye as he walked arund his neighbrhd in Queens, N.Y. They were clrful advertisements with a distinct style. Chen, wh builds exhibitins in museums and galleries, was eager t uncver wh was behind the psters. It wasn’t easy.

We ften share images r thughts n scial netwrks. Nw, researchers at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) have develped an algrithm (算法) that can analyse the cntent peple pst nline.
Accrding t William Glasser’s Chice Thery, there are five basic needs: Survival, Pwer, Freedm, Belnging and Fun. "These needs even have an influence n the images we chse t uplad t ur Instagram page," explained Mhammad Mahdi Dehshibi, a researcher at the UOC.
The research team has spent tw years wrking n a deep-learning mdel that identifies the five needs described by Glasser. Fr the study, which has been published in the jurnal IEEE Transactins n Affective Cmputing, the researchers analyzed 86 Instagram prfiles, in bth Spanish and Persian (波斯语), and develped an algrithm t identify the cntent f the images and categrize textual cntent by assigning different labels.
Glasser’s thery argues that each chice users make n scial media des nt respnd t just ne basic need — the multi-label apprach f this study helps t clear it up. Dehshibi uses an example t explain this: "Imagine that a cyclist is riding up a muntain, and at the tp, he can chse between sharing a selfie (自拍照) and a grup pht. If he chses the selfie, we perceive a need fr Pwer, but if he chses the ther ptin, we can cnclude that the persn is nt nly lking fr Fun but als a way t satisfy his need fr Belnging."
"Studying data frm scial netwrks that belng t nn-English-speaking users culd help build inclusive and diverse tls and mdels fr addressing mental health prblems in peple with diverse cultural backgrunds," Dehshibi adds.
The research team believe that their study can help imprve preventive measures, ranging frm identificatin t imprved treatment when a persn has been diagnsed (诊断) with a mental health disrder.
Back in 2019, University f Vermnt researchers develped an artificial-intelligence-based system that can detect signs f anxiety in the speech patterns f yung children. Unplarised light waves travel frward in every plane, while plarised light nly travels in ne plane.
