本课的主题是"学习西方绘画艺术的不同风格"（Learn abut different painting styles in Western art）。学生通过阅读了解西方绘画艺术发展历程中几个重要的历史时期（中世纪、文艺复兴、印象派、现代艺术）、代表画家及其作品，掌握不同时期的绘画艺术风格与特点，同时引导他们探究推动和影响西方绘画艺术发展变化的重要因素，学会用时间轴（timeline）绘制思维导图并标注各个时期西方绘画作品的典型风格，并能结合所学内容，判断艺术作品的时期、分享和交流自己喜爱的西方绘画风格，探讨艺术的内涵（What is art）。
