My passin fr the field f dietetics (营养学) started at a very yung age. Ever since I can remember, I have been dreaming f becming a pastry chef.
I grew up being part f varius sprts teams. As I grew lder, I nticed hw fd influenced my perfrmance as an athlete. I started reading mre abut nutritin and signed up fr an intrductry nutritin curse during my first year f cllege.
Hwever, I nticed when I entered my dietetics class, that I lked quite different frm mst students. I was the nly ethnically diverse student in my class.
My mum was brn in Austria and my father in Iran. They met in Austria and mved t the US befre my brther and I were brn. They expsed us t their wn traditinal cultural fds, and I grew up eating a fusin f Iranian and Austrian dishes.
I remember never having a taste fr schl cafeteria fd, s I always requested my mum pack me lunch. She wuld pack me leftvers frm dinner. At times, I felt embarrassed abut my meals, and wuld hide these frm my peers t avid the hrrible questin f, “Ew, what is that?” Hwever, ver time, and nce I became a qualified RD (注册营养师), I realized my unique backgrund allwed me t cnnect mre deeply with thers frm different cultures.
I encuraged my clients (客户) t share what they grew up eating and what fds were custmary t their unique upbringing. I develped nutritin recmmendatins fr my clients that included traditinal staples frm their heritage culture. These experiences and my dual heritage backgrund empwered me t encurage my clients and ther RDs t prudly share their unique cultural fds, t stp feeling embarrassed, but instead embrace ur differences and increase cultural awareness in the field f dietetics.
