Are there many ways in which we are alike? Abslutely I can reflect n times in my life that like him, I was in a situatin I had never expected, times that I felt brke, times that I felt at a lw pint. And as he may have been feeling this mrning, times when I needed smene t stp and acknwledge me.
We always have a chice as t whether we mve twards separatin r cnnectin. Separatin is lking at the hmeless persn and fcusing n hw untidy he lks, and criticizing why he has a cup f fine cffee if he is ut f mney. Cnnectin is acknwledging that he impacted my day by reaching ut t me.

Swimming in schls (群体) has massive energy-saving benefits fr fish. A study by Zhang and Lauder frm Harvard University has fund that fish use half as much energy swimming at high speeds if they are in a schl rather than alne, and they als recver in nearly half the time.
It has lng been thught that swimming in schls reduces energy use in additin t varius ther benefits. But measuring energy use in free-swimming fish is nt easy, nt least because as fish swim faster they can n lnger prduce enugh energy using nly the xygen they take in via their gills (鳃) — aerbic respiratin (有氧呼吸) and start using energy reserves stred in muscles — anaerbic respiratin (厌氧呼吸).
In the study, Zhang and Lauder put an individual fish and schls f arund eight fish in lng, narrw sealed tunnels where the speed f the water flw can be easily cntrlled. They then measured xygen cnsumptin. Different frm previus studies, the pair kept measuring xygen cnsumptin fr at least 19 hurs after the fish swam at a certain speed.
They fund that at lw speeds — between 0 and 3 bdy lengths per secnd — there was little difference in energy use between schls and single fish. But at higher speeds fish in schls used a lt less energy. At 7 bdy lengths per secnd, fr instance, n average each fish in a schl used 53 per cent less energy than single fish. At this speed the schling fish were still getting 50 percent f their energy frm aerbic respiratin, whereas the single fish were getting just 20 per cent, relying n anaerbic surces fr the ther 80 per cent.
“This study is exciting because it shws an indirect but verlked benefit f these energy savings, which means fish have mre energy t spend searching fr fd, digesting meals r aviding predatrs.” says Shaun Killenat the University f Glasgw in the UK.
    12. When fish swim at high speeds, they ________.
A cnsume n energyB. seldm breathe
    C. need mre energyD. relax nw and then
    13. Hw did Zhang and Lauder d their research?
    A. By analyzing existing data.B. By cnducting an experiment.
    C. By learning frm previus studies.D. By bserving fish in natural envirnment.
    14. What can we infer frm paragraph 4?
    A. The schling fish save energy mre efficiently.
    B. A single fish always uses mre energy in swimming.
    C. Fish in schls swim faster than a single fish.
    D. Speed has nthing t d with energy cnsumptin.
    15. Where can we find the text?
    A. In a duty reprt.B. In a published bk.
    C. In a science magazine.D. In a travel brchure.

    A. cnsume n energyB. seldm breathe
    C. need mre energyD. relax nw and then

I tld him if he really had the cmputer, he shuld take it t the plice.”(‘这个口音很重的家伙告诉我,我的电脑在他手里,’ Frtune说。‘他告诉了我这个故事,说这是他的错。我以为这是个骗局。我告诉他,如果他真的有电脑,他应该把它交给警察。’)”可知,Frtune对Almazruei的话表现出的是不信任,即表示怀疑,因为他认为这是一个骗局。故答案为:Frtune felt suspicius.
    【49题详解】
考查推理判断。根据最后一段“Sn after, a plice fficer called Frtune t say that a man had drpped the cmputer ff and had said he was srry. He dialed the man’s number.(不久之后,一名警官打电话给Frtune,说有个人送了个电脑过去,并说他很抱歉。他拨了那个人的号码。)”可知,Masud Almazruei将电脑交给了警方,警方通知了Luke Frtune,这台电脑被归还给了它的失主。而之前Frtune对 Almazruei的话表现出的是不信任,所以在弄清情况后,Frtune对 Almazruei的通话中应该表达歉意以及感激。故答案为:Frtune wuld say “I’m s srry I misunderstd yu earlier, and thank yu s much fr yur help” when he gt thrugh t Almazruei.
