In my first semester as a teaching assistant, a student came t me with a sensitive request. The prfessr required students t use electrnic clickers t answer multiple-chice questins during the lecture; participatin wuld cunt tward their grade. But this student culd nt affrd the $50 fr a clicker and $30 t register it. She ffered t write her answers n paper and give them t me after every lecture. She reminded me f myself—and f ur respnsibility as educatrs t supprt pr students withut singling them ut.
When I went t cllege, I chse t attend the schl where I can receive the mst financial aid. But mst prfessrs required expensive textbks and class materials, which were great burden placed n me. I struggled with feelings f islatin (孤立) and insecurity. I lied abut the many hurs I wrked at part-time jbs, why I culdn’t g t the mvies, and why I culdn’t ask my family fr mney.
There were rare exceptins, such as my calculus prfessr. He gave me a much-appreciated bst when he lent the entire class his wn textbks fr the semester. Other students may have turned up their nses at the bks’ pr cnditin, but I was incredibly grateful. His gesture, and similar effrts made by a handful f teachers, helped me make it thrugh my undergraduate and master’s studies. And nce I learned Ph. D, I was paid a stipend (津贴). I finally felt I belnged in higher educatin.
When that student tld me she culdn’t affrd a clicker, thugh, I realized I had nce been in her shes s I tld her my earlier struggles t help her feel less alne. And I let her submit her answers n paper and manually entered her attendance int the gradebk.
In the years since then, I’ve cntinued t talk abut my experiences when they seem relevant. I feel all lw-incme students shuld have mentrs wh can help them cpe with the many expenses assciated with cllege and make them feel welcme. And I hpe that mre academics can be like my calculus prfessr, wh with his simple gesture made such a big difference fr me.

C.T receive the mst financial aid frm the schl.D.T avid getting classmates cncerned abut him.
    26.What did the authr d t help lw-incme students?

Eln Musk, a US tech mgul(大亨), funder f SpaceX and c-funder f electric car maker Tesla, has been wrking n this technlgy. On Aug 28, Musk gave a livestream(直播) demnstratin f the chip which was implanted int the head f a pig named Gertrude.
The chip, develped by Musk’s cmpany Neuralink, is the size f a cin. But dn’t let its size fl yu. The tiny chip has ver 3,000 electrdes (电极) attached t flexible threads, which can mnitr abut 1,000 neurns (神经元). It cllects neural signals frm an area f the brain, and then transmits thse signals wirelessly t nearby cmputers, accrding t MSN. In the livestream, Gertrude culd be seen walking arund her pen sniffing (嗅) the grund while a mnitr shwed her brain activity.
Thugh the technlgy is still in its early stage, it is encuraging fr humans. “This technlgy wuld slve a lt f brain/spine injuries and is ultimately (最终) essential fr AI symbisis (共生), which allws the human brain t mix with an artificial intelligence.” Musk said in previus interviews.
When the device can be applied t humans, its main gal will be t help thse wh have mbility(行动) issues, such as thse suffering frm paralysis(瘫痪). Musk hpes this technlgy culd als be used t help thse with hearing and eyesight issues and ne day lead t a cure fr epilepsy(癫痫).
Althugh such a device culd, in principle, repair thse prblems, putting it int practice is by n means a piece f cake. Currently, the device can transmit signals frm abut 500 neurns in the pig’s brain. Cmpared t 80 billin neurns in a human brain, this number is tiny. And t cver the whle human brain als means the electrdes have t be much smaller. Als, implanting the chip int the brain pses a ptential danger. There is a risk f the immune system attacking this freign bdy.
Right nw, the hpe f cntrlling the brain via cntrlling a few neurns seems verly ptimistic. “There are many technlgical challenges t vercme befre Neuralink can put its devices t the purpses,” Yuan Lanfeng, an assciate prfessr f China, tld China Daily.
28.What d we knw abut Eln Musk’s micrchip accrding t the first three paragraphs?

    B.T mnitr animals, brain activity.
C.T help peple wh have mbility issues.
D.T cntribute t the research in AI technlgies.
30.What des the paragraph 5 mainly talk abut?
A.Ptential prblems in applying the chip t humans.
B.Key differences between pigs’ and humans’ brains.
C.Hw the immune system is the majr bstacle t the implant.
D.The amunt f time and mney implanting the chip culd cst.
31.Hw des Yuan Lanfeng feel abut implanting the chip int the human brain?
    A.Excited.B.Cautius.C.Optimistic.D.Wrried.

“Angela, d yu think the United States will elect a female president in yur lifetime?” Years ag, this was the last questin f the last interview fr a schlarship that I didn’t win. I shk my head “n”. As the interview ended, I sensed that I’d given an answer the cmmittee fund disappinting. “Yes, f curse there will be a female president in my lifetime, and I hpe I have yur vte.” Maybe they wanted me t say this assertively.
Where des the bravery t set ambitius gals and strive fr them cme frm?
In a previus study, an experimenter did a series f “car impact experiments”. The experimenter placed a ty car in the middle f the platfrm and placed bstacles n each side f the car. If the car cllided (撞击) with the bstacle n the left, the car wuld light up. If it cllided with the bstacle n the right, there wuld be n respnse.
The experimenter invited children t bserve him playing tw sides f “cllisin games”. After that, the children were asked t play this game. It was fund that all children specifically hit the left bstacle because it wuld make the car give ut light. Thrugh this experiment, we can understand that children will nt imitate (模仿) all f yur actins, but nly yur “successful” actins. S we need t be sure they have a gd example.
In a mre recent study, it is fund that the clser the persn was t the child, the mre willing the child was t imitate. Likewise, cllege students wh are assigned t teaching assistants f similar race r ethnicity were mre likely t attend ffice hurs and discussin sectins. This match als led t imprving student perfrmance in sequenced curses.
Dn’t assume that children can he anything they want when they grw up. S g ut f yur way t expse the yung peple t inspiring rle mdels they can relate t, whether it’s an Olympic athlete r a lcal entrepreneur. And nw that we have ur first female vice president, can the first female president be far behind?
32.Which f the fllwing wrds has the same meaning as “assertively” in paragraph 1?
    A.Cnfidently.B.Casually.C.Shamefully.D.Cautiusly.
33.What can we learn frm the previus study?
A.Rle mdels can help kids d all they want.B.Children shuld act as the experimenters d.
C.Rle mdels can help children set gd gals.D.Children like t learn frm adults’ behavirs.
34.What mtivated the cllege students t be mre active in discussin?
A.Their lve fr the fllw-up curses.B.Their teaching assistants encuragement.
C.Their passin fr imprving perfrmances.D.Their willingness t imitate the clser persn.
35.What is the best title f the text?
A.What yu d is mre imprtant than what yu sayB.What yu see helps yu realize what’s pssible
C.Can a female be elected as the president f the US?D.Wh is the mst successful rle mdels in life?
