The reductin wdcut uses ne piece f wd t make a clrful artwrk. The artist cuts and prints different layers (层) in rder n the same piece f wd. The reductin wdcuts became an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Pu’er, Yunnan, in 2009.
Leng Guangmian, 40, is a reductin wdcut artist. Leng started learning it in 2003. He said that making reductin wdcut prints is just like an adventure. “Every time we cut n the wd and then print, we never knw what it will be like in the end. “ As he sees beautiful patterns layer by layer, he nly gets mre excited, added Leng.
But finishing such wrk is nt easy. He said that befre cutting, he needs t plan fr the whle print and chse clrs fr different layers. A big print usually takes mnths t finish.
