The painting’s name is “Mther Divine”, by the artist Sarahi Zacatelc. The mther in questin is a green wman, with clrful plants adrning her head and water dripping (滴下) dwn her neck. In every brushstrke, Zacatelc pays hmage t the man wh taught her hw t paint: her grandfather Agustin.
Brn in 1982, Zacatelc learned hw t create art frm her grandfather in Oaxaca. At the time, her grandfather lived with her while her mther wrked. A new study, published in the jurnal Science Advances, might start t challenge that view. Scientists have develped a new tl that culd be used t predict the effectiveness f these herbs. They’ve begun t cnfirm sme f its predictins using clinical data frm patients treated in a traditinal Chinese medicine hspital.
“T ur knwledge, this is the first scientific thery t explain hw a traditinal medicine system wrks,” lead study authr Xia Gan, a researcher at the Nanjing University f Infrmatin Science & Technlgy in China said.
In the new study, the authrs lked at genes (基因) thught t be respnsible fr causing specific symptms (症状) f disease. They relied n an already published dataset that cnnected the dts between disease symptms and the underlying genes and prteins that give rise t thse illnesses. Pulling this data tgether, the researchers were able t scre hw well these herbs might relieve specific symptms f the disease. These scres were based n hw clse the herbs’ target prteins were t the prteins assciated with varius symptms.
The authrs then cmpared their predictins t herbs recgnized by the Chinese Pharmacpeia as effective against specific disease symptms.
