Sme famus rads alng the River Seine are cmpletely clsed t cars. Nw yu see peple riding bikes, running and walking with their families alng the river. In anther part f Paris, a bike path n Sebastpl Bulevard is ne f the busiest in Eurpe, after pening in 2019. In ne week in early September, it reached a recrd high f 124,000 riders.
The city will hst the Summer Olympics in 2024 and plans t add mre bike paths by then. Paris wants t reduce its pllutin by half during the games, even as visitrs frm arund the wrld will be in the city fr the event. Organizers say all f the cmpetitin sites will be reachable by bike thrugh a 60-kilmeter netwrk f bike paths.
The change t Paris, hwever, has nt been easy. With mre peple using bikes, mre peple are making mistakes. Sme f them are new t cycling and disbey traffic rules. But the envirnment may be imprving. If yu’ve ever watched a dg nap, yu’ve prbably wndered if animals dream. It’s a cmplicated questin. We still dn’t knw exactly why humans dream. Studying animal dreams is even harder; dgs can’t tell us what made them whine (哀鸣) during a nap. Hwever, a recent study suggests spiders may experience REM-like (类快速眼动) sleep and even visual dreams. Rats recall maze memries
After rats run a maze (迷宫) during the day, they can rerun the same curse while asleep, research has shwn. When awake, a rat’s hippcampus, a part f the brain respnsible fr making and string memries, remembers the neurn (神经元) pattern f navigating the maze. Later when asleep, the brain reprduces the identical pattern, suggesting the rat remembers the maze.
This 2001 finding was ne f the first t suggest that animals had cmplex dreams. Thse rat brain studies shw that when maze memries ccur during sleep, the visual imagery that went alng with them is als reactivated, meaning the sleeping rats saw what they had seen in the maze while awake. The same has been fund fr auditry(听觉) and even emtinal areas that reactivate when the rat reruns the maze during REM sleep.
Zebra finches remember sngs
Despite being knwn fr their lyrical sngs zebra finches aren’t brn singers. The birds must learn by listening, practicing, and, perhaps, by dreaming.
In 2000 researchers learned that neurns in the birds’frebrains fire with a distinct pattern while they sing a sng. While the birds sleep, their brains reprduce this same pattern, replicating the sng they heard and sang that day, suggesting the birds remember and practice sngs in their sleep.
D dreaming birds relive their waking experiences? Or are singing dreams mre like algrithms(算法) running withut cnscius awareness? Scientists may be getting clser t finding ut.
Researcher Murrain says, “I wuld nt be surprised if actual dreams were fund in animals, and I think eventually we’ll be able t shw that scientifically. Yu did smething in the daytime, and yur brain will replay it, integrate it, and mix it with ther experiences. We’re nt the nly species capable f remembering and learning.”

C. They try t understand animals’“dreams”and their influence n memry.
D. They attempt t imprve the learning ability f these animals.
