    Bangladesh has a large ppulatin. The natin depends n rice as its main fd. Grwing rice requires a lt f water and energy, especially during the dry seasn frm January t June when farmers mstly rely n grundwater. This results in serius reductin f grundwater as well as greenhuse gas emissins(排放).
    Researchers frm the University f Washingtn and Bangladesh’s Ministry f Agriculture have develped a system called Integrated Rice Advisry System (IRAS), which uses satellite data frm NASA and its partners t give farmers imprtant infrmatin.
    IRAS wrks by cmbining satellite data n water use, rainfall, and weather frecasts with crp water demand(需求)characteristics t prduce lcatin-specific suggestins fr farmers. The suggestins tell farmers hw much water they have, hw much they are using, and hw much they need fr their crps. They als warn farmers if they have ver-r under-watered their fields.
    The IRAS team states that the system will help reduce agricultural water waste by abut 30 percent, cut fuel use by 45 percent, save S115 millin yearly, and lwer carbn emissins by 300,000 tns per year.
    IRAS is an example f hw glbal cperatin and the sharing f imprtant data amng natins can help imprve fd security, water management, and envirnmental prtectin arund the wrld. “In additin t being affrdable and cnvenient fr farmers, the methd can help the wrld becme mre water-efficient and energy-efficient in grwing fd,” said Faisal Hssain, leader f IRAS.
    The IRAS team cmpleted its first natinwide effrt in June 2023 after wrking with staff frm Bangladesh’s Department f Agricultural Extensin and Agr-Meterlgical Infrmatin Service t set up the system.     Scial media netwrks have been shwn t have greatly changed students’ scial behaviur. But the relatinship between scial media and students’ English language writing has been largely ignred (忽视). S ur team f fur researchers studied ne English as a Secnd Language (ESL) class at Fiaseman SenirHigh Schl in Tarkwa, suthwestern Ghana. Our research fcused n a Frm 2 class, made up f 47 students aged 17 and 18 n average. It was ne f the largest classes in the schl, which ffered English as a general subject.
    The study fund that the students spent really lng perids f time n varius scial media platfrms (平台) . But mst f the sites they visited were nt abut learning. That was wrrying. One student said, “I visit scial media every day. I can’t cunt. I’m always there. It is very difficult t cntrl my presence there. I truly dn’t knw what t d.”
    We als fund that their scial media use had resulted in their use f shrtened frms f English wrds-such as “4” in place f “fr”, “u” in place f “yu” and “d” in place f “the” --in their writing, including in their English examinatins. These are the unacceptable written frms f English.
    We cncluded that the way in which English is being used in examinatins by students is being undermined by their use f the English language n scial media. This is a grwing trend (趋势) that will see students struggle t get ahead in the subject, as mre frmal English language writing is needed fr examinatins and further studies.
    We recmmend that thse invlved in educatin shuld cnsider cnnecting teaching practices that take advantage f scial media t attract students. This wuld allw students t learn during their time n scial media platfrms. Als, teachers shuld help students chse prper scial media sites.
