With the help f tiger sharks, a team f researchers has discvered the wrld’s largest seagrass meadw(grassland)n the seaflr near the Bahamas.
Seagrass meadws are hme t many different kinds f fish, shellfish, and s n. Large sea animals, such as sharks, als spend a lt f time there lking fr fd. Seagrass can grw in very deep and dark waters, making it difficult t find. But sharks can dive deep int the water and get t the areas peple cannt reach.
After nticing tiger sharks swimming thrugh seagrass ff the Bahamas, an American scientist wrked with a seagrass expert, trying t map the lcatins f the plants. The researchers fitted seven tiger sharks with cameras. Since tiger sharks swim in grups, they placed satellite tracking tags(卫星跟踪器)n eight ther sharks t find ut exactly where the animals swam. They cllected hurs f vides f the tiger sharks swimming thrugh seagrass.
The researchers fund mre seagrass grwing near the Bahamas than they expected—in fact, they believe that there is mre seagrass there than anywhere else n Earth. D yu get in truble fr feeding yur dg n fd frm dinner under the table? A new study suggests that by sharing “peple fd”, yu might actually be helping t keep yur pet healthy.
Many dgs are fed dry prcessed fd. Science has shwn that a diet (饮食) f prcessed fd is nt healthy fr humans. Scientists frm the University f Helsinki, in Finland, say this diet is nt gd fr ur pet dgs, either.
The scientists discvered that the fds a dg might find in an wner’s hme such as eggs, fish, meat and vegetables may be better than a diet f just dg fd. This is because having different kinds f fds leads t mre variety (多样性) in micrbes, which are little living things, t small t be seen with ur eyes. There are millins f them in human and animal bdies. Sme are bad fr us, but many are gd fr us, and they play imprtant rles in helping us digest (消化)fd.
A ttal f 8,500 yung pet dgs tk part in the study. 4,500 f them were under 6 mnths ld, and the rest were between 6 and 18 mnths ld. Humans naturally cnnect with thers, whether that’s family, friends r peple in ur cmmunity. Healthy cnnectins give peple energy and supprt we all need peple t celebrate and share ur wrries with. Scial cnnectins aren’t just abut mental health; they imprve physical health t, helping us t live a lng life. Research suggests being lnely can slwly harm yur health. Humans’ need fr cnnectin is different frm persn t persn, but what’s imprtant is nt hw many relatinships yu have, but hw gd yur relatinships are.
Then hw t cnnect with thers? “Yu can reach ut and cnnect with peple in s many different ways,” says Julia Clements f Place2Be, the rganizer behind Children’s Mental Health Week. Yu can cnnect in persn r nline, with yur friends, parents, teachers r classmates. It’s nt just peple, either. “Sme peple feel cnnected with their pets r in nature,” says Clements. She advises making time t build mre cnnectins thrugh actins as well as wrds. Being kind, listening t thers and trying new experiences are all gd tls.
Everybdy may feel lnely smetimes and refuse t talk t thers. Keep in mind that cnnectins change—sme becme strnger, while thers stp. “Remember that there are always peple that care fr yu,” advises Clements. She says it’s imprtant t tell smene yu trust abut hw yu are feeling, r safe rganizatins such as Childline r Shut. (2023·浙江金华·统考中考真题)①Des life smetimes seem t be full f impssible prblems? Hw many times, fr example, d yu find yurself saying things like “I really dn’t understand this Maths prblem”, r “I can’t get int the schl team”? Well, maybe it’s time t intrduce yurself t the pwer f “yet”. By adding this simple wrd, yu can change everything. “I really dn’t understand this Maths prblem yet.” “I can’t get int the schl team yet.” Suddenly, the impssible becmes pssible. Yu can imagine thse things happening.
②I read abut a schl that has changed the way it marks its students’ exams. The schl find ut that the ld pass/ fail system wasn’t helping students’ mtivatin(积极性). If yu passed, then great, but thse students wh didn’t pass ften felt like failures. S nw students wh dn’t pass the exams will nt see a big red F n their papers; they see a “Nt yet” instead. That way the students feel that they are n a jurney. They haven’t reached the end, but they knw that they are ging the right way.
③This kind f thinking is part f what experts call “having a grwth mindset”. Peple with a grwth mindset dn’t cncentrate n failure. They aren’t wrried by nt getting things right the first time and are happy t keep trying until they d. They enjy the challenge and believe they can change. In cntrast, peple wh just fcus n the failure have what the experts call “a fixed mindset”. These peple are always wrried abut failure and are happy t give up when things dn’t g right. They dn’t think that they are able t change. Clearly, it is better t have a grwth mindset than a fixed mindset.
④But dn’t wrry if yu think that yu have a fixed mindset. ________. Remember that it all starts with questining the things yu believe abut yurself. Stp believing that yu can’t r yu haven’t and realize that yu just can’t r haven’t yet. Once yu start ding this, yu’ll wnder why yu didn’t d it befre. It’s ne small but very pwerful wrd.
