[2024湖北武汉部分学校调研]A grup f researchers studying the behavir f Amur tigers, als knwn as Siberian tigers, have fund that they have different "persnality" types that help them survive and raise their baby tigers.
Amur tigers are definitely the largest cats in the wrld. They live in vast frests in wilderness areas f eastern Russia and in prtected areas f nrthern China. There are abut 500 f these tigers left in the wild, althugh there are prbably mre than that living in zs r reserves.
The researchers based the study n a human test called "The Big Five", which scres peple n five persnality features. They asked feeders wrking with 248 cats in tw shelters t spy n the tigers and give an accunt f their persnalities. The results divided the tigers int tw grups, which the researchers described as having either "majesty" r "steadiness". Tigers in the majesty categry were thse that appeared "dignified(高贵的) and ambitius". The tigers in the steadiness categry were "sincere and tlerant".
Majestic tigers had a higher scial status, spent mre time hunting live animals, and mated and ate mre. The steady tigers seemed mre gentle and lving tward ne anther. Rsalind Arden, c-authr f the study, said, "It’s pleasant t see that yu dn’t have t be dminant, fierce, cmpetitive, and aggressive in rder t succeed as a tiger, which desn’t crrespnd with peple’s traditinal insights int tigers."
There were female and male tigers in bth categries. In fact, female Amur tigers are rare and feel exhausted after giving birth t baby tigers s that fathers ften help raise the baby tigers. Having a steady persnality, especially fr male nes, culd play a significant rle in the relatively lng amunt f time — tw t three years — when baby tigers stay with their parents. The researchers say bth persnalities have advantages that help the tigers survive threats, including lss f habitat and hunting. The team hpes the study will encurage mre supprt frm all walks f life in a bid t guarantee the tigers’ cnservatin.
