Step 1 Lead-in
Describe the pictures in yur wn wrds
T: Amy wants t write abut the wrk f an ORBIS nurse called Diana fr her class presentatin. And she fund sme pictures f Diana.
T: Lk at these tw pictures. Can yu guess Diana’s jb in the past? As yu see, she was an ffice lady, a secretary f a cmpany. Did she lk happy? Lk at the secnd ne. What des she d nw? Des she lk happy? Why des she change the jb and what happened? Try t describe the pictures in yur wn wrds.

Step 2 Reading Cmprehensin
1. Discuss the pictures
Students read the six pictures carefully. They can ask any questin abut the stry, and invite the ther students t answer. They can get the answer frm the reprt r use their imaginatin t get reasnable answers.
The teacher gives six questins. Students read and underline the answers in the reprt.
(1) What was her life like?
(2) Which des she like better, travelling by car r by plane?
(3) In which way did she learn abut ORBIS?
(4) After learning abut it, hw did she feel and what did she d?
(5) What is her life like nw?
(6) Hw des she feel abut the changes?
2. Analyze the structure f the article
T: Nw please find the tpic sentences f each paragraph, and get the main idea f each paragraph.
3. Cmpare the lives in the past and at present
T: The first paragraph and the third paragraph tell Diana’s wrk, lifestyle and way f travelling. They have similar structures.

Shw the five steps f writing; indicate that we shuld write step-by-step.

2. Prewriting—chse a tpic/cllect details
(1) Ask students t write abut an Indian girl helped by UNICEF and shw the pictures and the infrmatin. Shw the subject, frm, purpse and audience.
(2) Ask students t cmplete a 5 W’s chart.
Writing tips: An experience includes the basic details, sensry details and dialgues.
(3) Ask students t put things in rder.
Ask students t use the time line t rganize things in time rder.

3. Writing—write a first draft: a beginning + a middle + an ending
Shw the structure f the reprt.
(1) The beginning shuld get the readers’ attentin and intrduce the experience. Shw three ways t begin:
a. Start with dialgues;
b. Begin with a fact r an interesting statement;
c. Put yurself in the middle f the actin.
Give three examples and encurage students t write their wn.
(2) The middle part tells stry in time rder. It may include sensry details, use dialgues, and share the feelings peple experienced.
Give a mdel middle and guide the students t pay attentin t the transitin wrds and sensry details.
(3) The ending shuld bring the stry t a clse. Shw three pssible ways:
a. Tell what yu learnt frm the experience;
b. Explain hw the experience changed yu;
c. Tell hw yu felt abut the experience.
Give three examples and encurage students t write their wn.

4. Revising—imprve yur writing
(1) Shw the steps t revise.

Ask students t rewrite three sentences.
Give three tips:
a. Transitin wrds help cnnect ideas;
b. Use specific nuns, vivid verbs and clrful adjectives;
c. Add variety t sentences.

b. Indent every paragraph and leave a ne-inch margin f all sides.
