Where in the classrm d yu prefer t sit,and why? Scientists have discvered that seating preference nt nly shws students’ persnalities, but has a great influence n their schl perfrmance.Generally speaking, students shw different attitudes depending n where they sit.Based n the research, scientists have develped a funnel-like(像漏斗的) mdel f “learning znes(区域)” t see the relatinship between seating and active learning.
In this mdel, the muth f the funnel(A) is the best psitin fr learning.Students in this frnt area prve t be the mst active learners. They shw a greater desire(渴求) fr learning, which leads them t fcus(集中注意力) better and take a mre active part than the rest f the class.Thse in the neck f the funnel(B) dn’t pay the same clse attentin, but they ask a lt f questins, partly because f the added cnfidence they feel frm being in a safe zne, with thers arund them.Less desirable is the area “utside the funnel(C,D),” which refers t the side and the back rws, where students take a less active part in classrm activities and find it hard t fcus their attentin, falling asleep at times.
Studies abut learning znes suggest that a change in traditinal seating plans can benefit students. In fact,a grwing number f teachers have begun less traditinal seating plans, such as “U-Type”.There are n side and back areas,s teachers can expect their students t take part in activities mre actively and increase student-teacher interactin(互动).

I did sme research and examined hw British English and American English changed between the 1930s and the 2000s. Take spelling, fr example twards the 1960s it lked like the UK was ging in the directin f nt using the “u” in “clur” and writing “centre” as “center”. But since then, the British have becme mre cnfident in sme f their wn spellings. In the 2000s, the UK used an American spelling chice abut 11% f the time while Americans use a British ne abut 10% f the time. There is als n need t wrry t much abut American wrds, such as “vacatin”, “liqur” and “lawmaker” entering British English. There are a few examples f this kind f vcabulary change but they are mstly uncmmn wrds and are nt likely t change British English t much. The British are still using “mum” rather than “mm” and “petrl” rather than “gas”.
But when we start thinking f language mre in terms f style than vcabulary r spelling, a different picture appears. Sme f the bigger trends (趋势) in American English are mving twards a freer use f language. American sentences are usually ne wrd shrter in 2006 than they were in 1931.
Americans als use a lt mre apstrphes (撇号) in their writing than they used t, which has the effect f turning the tw wrds “d nt” int the single “dn’t”. “The hand f the king” becmes the shrter “The king’s hand”.
Hwever, in all these ways Brits are changing t—and in the same way as Americans. They’re just abut 30 years behind the trend that Americans seem t be leading.
S this raises a questin, is British English actively fllwing American English r is this smething that is simply a natural trend in language use? Perhaps the British wuld have gne in that directin even if America had been discvered? I'd like t agree with the secnd idea but because f the fact that British peple learn plenty f American language thrugh different ways, I think the first is mre crrect.
    12. What did the British d in the 1960s?
    A. They use sme American spellings.
    B. They built up cnfidence in their language.
    C. They did research n language difference.
    D. They went in the directin f harder spellings.
    13. What des the authr try t shw by using examples like “petrl”?
    A. British English has changed a lt.
    B. Sme uncmmn wrds are used less ften.
    C. American wrds are entering British English.
    D. American spelling wn’t change British English t much.
    14. Which f the fllwing is a trend f American English?
    A. It is using shrter wrds.
    B. It is turning t prper grammar.
    C. It is trying t make sentences simpler.
    D. It is aviding using apstrphes.
    15. Which f the fllwing is the authr’s pinin abut the languages?
    A. American English is ging the wrng way.
    B. British English is fllwing American English’s example.
    C. American English is brrwing a lt frm British English.
    D. Languages wuldn’t change much if America was nt discvered.
