Schultz’s adventure started in 1981 when he traveled frm New Yrk t Seattle t check ut a ppular cffee bean stre called “Starbucks”. It had been buying many f the Hammarplast Swedish drip cffeemakers (滴滤式煮咖啡壶) he was selling.
There was that great smell, sure, but what caused him t fall in lve with the business was the care the Starbucks wners put int chsing and rasting the beans. He was als impressed with the wners’ devtin t educating the public abut the wnders f the cffee.
It tk Schultz a year t cnvince the Starbucks wners t hire him. When they finally made him directr f marketing and peratins in 1982, he had anther idea. This ne ccurred in Italy, when Schultz nticed the cffee bars that existed n almst every blck. He learned that they nt nly served excellent espresss (蒸馏咖啡), they als served as meeting places r public squares, and there were 200,000 f them in the cuntry.
But when he came back t Seattle, the Starbucks wners resisted Schultz’s plans t serve cffee in the stres, saying the restaurant business was cmpetitive, and it was cstly t hire waiters. After all, ecnmic benefits were their primary mtivatr. Frustrated, Schultz quit and started his wn cffee-bar business in 1985, named “II Girnale”. It was successful, and tw years later, the riginal Starbucks management sld its Starbucks retail unit t Schultz fr $3.8 millin.
As the cmpany began t expand rapidly in the 1990s, Schultz always said that the main gal was “t serve a great cup f cffee”. Asked abut the secret f his success, Schultz tld us the principles: “Dn’t be threatened by peple smarter than yu. Cmprmise anything but yur cre values.”

ChatGPT is a new AI system that sunds s human in cnversatins that it culd hst its wn radi prgrams. Reading between its instantly generated, perfectly grammatical lines, peple see different visins f the future. Withut dubt, ChatGPT is impressive.
Sme cmpare the emergence f ChatGPT t the impact f the iPhne, but that desn’t d it justice. ChatGPT, as well as the generative AI that will fllw and utsmart it, is mre disruptive. And yet, that desn’t necessarily mean the end f the wrld is upn us. On the cntrary, ChatGPT, I wuld argue, might serve t make us mre aware f ur irreplaceable human qualities.
Take the creative act, writing in particular, as an example. If yu want it t, the AI-pwered chatbt always prduces smething because it has the whle wrld f nline data t draw frm. But unlike us, it lacks the cnsciusness. Thinking is hard, critical thinking even harder, and ChatGPT isn’t gd at either. It just restates what has already been said; it is ne big recycling machine.
There is anther bvius limitatin f ChatGPT. Philspher Harry Frankfurt nce claimed: the difference between a bullshitter (胡说八道的人) and a liar is that the liar knws what the truth is but decides t take the ppsite directin; a bullshitter, hwever, has n regard fr the truth at all. The AI schlar Gary Marcus applies this distinctin t ChatGPT. He believes that we have reached a critical pint when “the price f bullshit reaches zer and peple wh want t spread misinfrmatin, either plitically r just t make a prfit, start ding that plentifully”. Unfrtunately, ChatGPT will reprduce misinfrmatin frm any f its input surces — it is nt an intelligent system that tries t balance r weight different perspectives. In this sense, everything that ChatGPT writes is bullshit.
This is why the s-called AIQ is critical. It is actually an extensin and a measurement f ur human IQ: ur verall knwledge f AI tls, ur mastery f clues, and ur ethical awareness. ChatGPT is ging t change everything and nthing. Creativity, imaginatin and ethics — these will all remain unique human dmains. It is the AI’s very limitatins that will make us appreciate ur wn.
    8. What can we learn abut ChatGPT?
    A. It helps generate an artificial vice.

    C. ChatGPT: Treat It Like a Ty, Nt a Tl
    D. ChatGPT: Why It Is Bund t Generate Bullshit
    D

They put the cckats thrugh a series f increasingly challenging trials t reach the bxes: first they had t climb a shrt ladder while carrying their tls; then they had t fly with them. Just like befre, nly sme f the bxes had a membrane barrier, s the birds had t decide whether the prblem required them t decide in advance t transprt ne f the tls r bth f them. Mst f the cckats jammed the stick inside the straw and carried it as a single item in their muths n an as-needed basis, further indicating that they knew ahead f time when tw tls were required.

    C. Cckats knw a plastic straw is sufficient if there isn’t a membrane.
    D. Cckats rarely knw in advance when they shuld carry a tlset.
    14. What is the best title fr the text?
    A. Cckats Differ frm Chimps in Using Multiple Tls
    B. Cckats Imprve Intelligence with a Set f Tls
    C. Cckats can Distinguish a Single Tl frm a Tlset
    D. Cckats Knw When t Use a Tlset t Get the Jb Dne
    15. Where is the text mst prbably taken frm?
    A. A scientific reprt.B. A science fictin bk.
    C. A fable stry abut birds.D. An instructin bklet.
